Way back 1912 the ATC purchased the site that was being used for All black Test Rugby at the time. So has been racing that way round for over 100 years. guess no-one bothered to redirect it because of the stand position on the paddock ?.

PICK A SLOT Cambridge Night of Champions BOAY Friday Comp
Gammalite replied to Gammalite's topic in Trotting Chat
You only Won on Australian Soil old mate. You had the Luke McCarthy drives ( including Don Hugo actually , and it ran unplaced in the Hunter Cup in February. ) and 'What's Up Party time' got you 2 wins on the one night with the heat and Final of the Great Southern Star. here is the result that night. POINTS after Race 8 The GREAT SOUTHERN STAR TABman 38 points and BOAY Hunter Cup winner ! Brodie 34 points, The Chief and Gamma 26 pts, Blackie and The Galah 16 pts. It's a Bit harder on New Zealand soil TAB-mate .π you finished waay down the track behind Blackie ,Galah and Mikey in the Ashburton Slot race Day late October. when you had the North Island runners. (and you still don't get Oscar Bonavena either π , with Marky Boy now a North Island driver once again like his young days π€£π) So this time you can have the SOUTH ISLAND Drivers !!! see if that improves your position? SLOT 4 (Team south Island ) for TAB for ever. Final slot for the junior player Chiefy then. Chief a bit of a learner it seems so can gallop with the youngsters π. SLOT 6 (Junior drivers ) for Chief Stipe. -

You could get in before @ TABman and beat him to the Post ? Both those slots running with Republican party and young Carter Dalgety too. and Muscle Mountain must be a show in the TAB trot ? he's a great horse. Ben Hope Not a junior anymore but is driving for the South glory. Could win it. -

Love the Addington track (and racing) Brodster. gives em' all a chance and some gutsy drives at times. Young Wilson House winning a lot of races lately and good odds too. He could win some more Addington Fri. . Nothing happening much in Aus on Friday nights. Melton has a whole heap of 6 and 7 horse races for 2 and 3 yearold's . Emma Stewart will win the lot too π and they won't pay much lol π€£ Mr Galah won't be impressed either π Brisvegas fields not even worth watching π. Best of Luck with your slot 7 of The Happy Couples !! . you'll get Bet N Win in the big trot , and Don't Stop Dreaming in the Big Betcha, so you could pull off the double too. -

βthe Race by Betchaβ - What do harness participants think?
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
From a business point of view a lot of what you say makes sense. You are trying to return a profit in your head though for the competitors and slot holders. DOESN"T Happen. you're Looking at it wrong , as ALL these blokes are nearly All millionaires. The slot owners π° and the horse owners π° . They don't care about the Money, it's the Glory they're after. or the fun of trying to obtain the glory. They all have their money from other sources , and this is just pocket change for them . BUT you forget . It's fun and it's a Sport. People play sport for Fun and Pleasure. It's not about making money. It's the thrill of the Win (or getting fit, or winning the Premiership or whatever) . Most people that Race horses expect they should run at a loss. (about same percentage as what Punters do. which I believe is 80-90 %. The thing with the competitors in this BETCHA race, the 9 Losers are still exceptional horses and might get the money next start ππ°π (unless the Don or Larry or Swayzee are in it of course π€£π) chances become slim then. ππ -
βthe Race by Betchaβ - What do harness participants think?
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Well you are right with that I think Brodster. I reckon they should pay to enter the Interdominion and that as well . say 20k each. The standard would be exceptional then , like the selected field slot races. 60k not much for a chance at glory in these slot races. They pay double that for yearlings that 'some' don't even get to the races sometimes. Is a Great Investment to Get a TOP horse in a TOP race and have a bit of fun trying. a $120k dud yearling not much fun π€£π The Eureka Slot race at about 2 million$ is Australias biggest purse at Menangle and it has NZ trained horses prohibited from entering. Seems a bit racist to me lol, but the money stays in Aus and the industry might benefit. Alas, the Aussies ARE allowed to enter your slot races , so Keayang Zahara , Just Believe and co are cleaning up in NZ and the cash is coming to Oz. that will happen again in the new 'Ascent' this year too. Marketplace won't hold out the best Aussies π. they should of excluded Aussies?. because can't see any benefit to the local breeding industry , if that happens too many years. ( And it WILL) Do you think the Aussies will get the FIRST 4 in the TAB trot Friday night Brodster ? like last year . But the Grins 'Race' was won in it's 3 years by 'Self Assured', 'Copy That' and 'Merlin'. All owned by Multi Millionaire Aussies . so the banning of the Oz trainers seems frivolous I spose. money going to Aus anyway, but they do re-invest at the yearlings sales usually to support NZ. as well as Big money in training Fees to your top trainers are paid. The Last 5 New Zealand Cups are sitting on Australia mantle Pieces. A grass roots person winning the NZ Cup is COMPLETELY out of the question now. The Group 1's will be the Millionaire owners and/or the Aussies. And no good going on about 'grass roots' racing when every time a little meeting is on at Manawatu or Cambridge or even Auckland at times seems to often get shot down by a lot of the biased Southerners with NO respect for Trainers like Donnolly, Chilcott and co , who support those little meetings. It's their LIVELIHOOD and they have owners paying fees and enjoying racing their horse.(s) they won't win a Cup so pay them huge stakes. they can just dribble around in their 10k races. 6 horses fields are EXCELLENT with the 2 yearold s as they get a Winner more easily that way. Let's Go Larry !!! and the Don . Is DON -Is good. home ya go Lukey baby. -
βthe Race by Betchaβ - What do harness participants think?
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Alas Brodies idea is don't have BIG scale racing (like the brilliant slot races) Don't have Manawatu for the battlers ( as not enough punting is done on those race apparently ) don't have harness racing in the North Island ? Cambridge Midweeks were 'bad' Auckland race for too much money because they are 'elite' . so on so forth Manawatu has been excellent at getting young drivers like Harrison Orange, Wilson House, and young Crystal Hackett and some other juniors a HEAP of drives , to improve their technique and judgement. That not important to many punters BUT it is critical for the industry to have competent competitor drivers coming through. (too many old codgers go round in NZ all the time ) I wouldn't punt on them lol π€£ You CANNOT HAVE Huge fields on the Big South Island tracks with the poor horses flogged over long distance racing. They do a lot of that shit from the 'out-dated standing starts too. it's a dinosaur of a race model. What Brodster hasn't considered is that these BIG south Island grass tracks fields may be better odds for his place punt or whatever the hell he does, BUT they are technically very slow horses. I think they race for too much money already ππ. QLD puts on slow race fields for the 2.00 minute mile horses every week for about an average of $6000. doubt anyone punts on them BUT they run them !! It's a SPORT. you need participants. they need somewhere to start every week. (in a vain effort to Pay their Way) Surely the Fast horses should ( and DO ) race for the BIG bucks. A better investment than running $16 k maidens at Addington or the like. The maidens should just run for 10k and pop that extra cash left over into a BRAND NEW 2 year old slot race !!π°( another great idea for progress in the sport by Gamma π ) and will happen I reckon . HRNZ doing a Sterling job . Best slot race yet coming up this Friday. The BETCHA race. One of BEST RACE fields EVER ASSEMBLED . I would say the Best ever in Southern Hemisphere. and people bitch and moan about a miserly 400 k ?? π that is so funny .The galloping people must think harness are complete Tight-Arses haha π -

Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Isn't it great. They can run a Million Dollar race with the VERY BEST of BEST from 2 countries. With a few of the best trainers and drivers involved in the HISTORY of the SPORT. and it only has to put in a measley 400k. HRNZ must be dreaming and totally thrilled to bits, how lucky they are to get this roll up of great and tun such a great race in a back water place. for the cost of not even one house. Aren't they worth a million these days ? Putting Harness racing BACK on THE MAP . well done HRNZ . Watch out for the Aussie Quinella Brodster. In both races π Gamma on the money . Brodster just 'spent force' with no money left. tough times mate, tough times for you old time battlers. ππ -

Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
ReBORN soon in July TABman, with 2 heats instead of 3 to qualify for the final, which what was killing it. There will be 2 past Championship winners competing . 'Leap To Fame' and 'DON Hugo'. They will scare off a lot of the kiwis. NZ hasn't been the same since Allstars retired during Covid times. (The brand that sent Lazarus and Smolda to Australia for the Interdominion and WON ) and weren't pussies like they are these days. The Interdominion Final here in Brisvegas for the next 3 years. Come have a July holiday , and I'll shout you and Greg O'connor (what a fabulous harness man that bloke is) a 'Coffee' or 2. -
βthe Race by Betchaβ - What do harness participants think?
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
The runners PAY a BIG chunk of the prizemoney themselves. Doesn't cost the industry much at all to run $1,000,000 races. The Industry is Looooving It . ππ The BETCHA, The Eureka, The kiwi, The Nullibor, The TAB trot, The Protostar, The Ascent, The Velocity !!! win win winwin win win Brodster. It's called Buying a Slot .you can't buy one mate as they are too POPular and they go like Hot-cakes. and you're showing up as a bit of a DINOSAUR here, not able to adjust with the current way of assembling GReat Fields of the Best. GET with the Program Mate. You are the Only one doesn't give a damn . But you do really . as you wrote about it !! on ya mate . Enjoy the Fantastic Racing and watch out for the BIG Queenslander next Friday. Addington had a FANTASTIC new Slot for 3 year old trotters and 3 year old Pacers on Show day. They could race in $500,000 races because of this fantastic incentive. well done NZ Metro club Introducing those !!! πππ°π° Brisbane put on a $500,000 slot for 2 yearold's as well . They went 1.50. last year. Plenty of incentive to run lol. -
Very rarely bet against Allstars. Was tempted to bet against them tonight by PINSEEKER , who I thought would lead. and then cruise in. But Jonny Cox woosed out completely, and the 'Rakero' horse took the lead instead. But along came ALLstars Mark at $26 and $4.80 Sportsbet with CHASE A DREAM for an easy win. Got a good trip after skittling 'Little Spike' out of the one one sit .π Bit naughty by Mark there at the first corner ? young Crystal squeezed like a lemon..should of backed him at those odds lol . He (Chase A Dream) might be the same next week in the Betcha Mile too. and some chance I spose. OscarB looked good too. might give THE LOCOMOTIVE a bit of a hurry up next Friday, I'm thinking too. πππ»
-
The punters will be leaving Addington in droves when well supported trotters like Paramount Picture at $1.50 can't even trot. Like in race 2. Pretty embarrassing stuff being turned out by South Island harness racing lately.
-
Probably a good thing , as the enthusiast who might be listening from home around the country (and even Oz) don't have to wait half hour between races and get bored and go do something else.( like turn on the footy or something) Instead they might enjoy 10 minute gap between the trots racing ( like Australia has had for years and several days a week even) and place a few bets and stay tuned in to the action. Might even do it myself π€when usually don't bother (with nearly all the good racing being on Friday nights) . who is gunna sit around half hour between races these days ? Good to see some Sunday genius at work there at last. Should be 3 Nz trot meetings EVERY Sunday. would help get the 'horse racing numbers ' UP again too. possibly more young drivers would get a better deal too and get some more drives .

Owns 17 at Big Barrys. Owns 'Merlin' Mikey. The current holder of the Race by Grins Title. about to lose it though in a week or so. It's because we run a thriving business , and are trying to expand that knowledge onto all the kiwi's so they don't miss out over there. Sent Natalie along for a Decade when Blacks A Fake retired to show them how to drive well in races there. And now you've scored our lovely Brittany Graham for a while too. ( think she will hate the cold though and soon be back home with all us ex-pats in the QLD sunshine lol) But don't lose faith guys . The Racing !!! . The racing is through the ceiling Quality with the good stake money supplied by owner/ slot holders to the brilliant slot races. You got to see JUST BELIEVE and KEAYANG ZAHARA live , destroy the best in the land. and Swayzee swish off with some NZ Cups . ( 3 after this year ? π ) The BETCHA race has seen the kiwis hold the Aussie Invasion at bay for the first 3 years . ( Self Assured, Copy That and Merlin ) but that is sadly about to come to a Crashing End when The 'DON' and Qlder 'LARRY' arrive to perform the 'Coup de Grace ' on NZ's last frontier BIG race next week . Did Oz win the Derby too ? KEAYANG Zahara took the trotting one last year , but Cullen got the Pacing one. Could of been the last NZ win in that too for a while too . (Emma Stewart has a Superstar 3 year old that will crush the Velocity and NZ Derby later on )

She's only a junior . so you can't expect miracles. Everyone on the forums is already singing the praises of young Wilson House . some more big wins Friday at Addington. and Crystal and the young Orange going real well too. The future looks veryy bright βοΈπ And I notice in race 4 last Friday driving 'awkward' trotters the FIRST 4 was the 4 junior drivers . An outstanding performance against the much senior drivers. π were not favoured runners either. No body got the First 4 at all, so pool carried over. The Present Maker - MM Sunshine- Buffy Northstains - Rachmaninov. driven by Wilson House 1st-Olivia Thornley 2nd -Mia Holbrough 3rd- Gemma Thornley 4th. Who is Mia Holbrough ? haven't heard of that one before?
-
Great drive tonight on Marketplace by Ferguson. He got Mo'Unga beat again too π€£ππ. Was thinking the 'choc's' could win a Derby this year for John Dunn , the way he races. and some big runs last season Just a real good horse. But maybe Marketplace has his measure . John drove the Choc's to WIN tonight in the colts millions , and gave it a great shot . Marketplace gathered him in easy though . Regan Todd another Big Race win. How good are Cullen and Todd training.? doing fabulous with a few horses each racing tonight . Stella Rouge was All out to win the Fillies Millions from the 2 Cullen fillies. Allstars unplaced in both these 3 year old races. a very unusual event. But great to see these young trainers have caught up , as is Fabulous harness racing action now. The FFA with a Clear Cullen / Todd domination as well with DSD and Mo'unga . surely Ferguson Not driving to get Mo beaten again ?? hahaha . better call SAUL, or better call Forbury at least.
-
A few easy reasons for you are the cost of running one (a horse) is more than it's worth these days in trying. The ones that do run go so darn fast that trainers like all Williamsons , are just too darn good at home down South with Empire City, Ruby Rose , etc. and you can't win. the mile rates are way too quick they run. You need slow Thursdays to attract the slow horses. Just race for a few 1000. Redcliffe had it's slow race day today . They do that each Thursday. For horses only running 30 second quarters. that's as fast as they can go lol. but you still need some races for them to keep people involved. As a side note for something different> I see SWAYZEE"S Brisbane training stable (ex-pat Tim Butt and son Riley Butt) had the single worst day today, I have ever seen a stable have in this state. 5 horses running . None galloped but were all Beaten a total of about 300m between them . 3 very long lasts in just 30 second quarters ?? 2 were banned , 2 warned for being uncompetitive and on last chance to race truely, and the 5th one was $3.20 and got beat a long 40m (beating home the Korbyn Newman driven Stablemate . Bet he wishes he was back at Dunn's already π€£π) At least I can see why Swayzee ran unplaced for 8 starts running now , while in Queensland before Grimson days π
-
Finally concluding today, another positive for Grimsons offsider, the young kiwi lad Jack Trainor from a year ago . A positive swab for NZ horse MANHATTAN last March after a Menangle win . They tried to say the Butt's Bob and David) did it at home in NZ drenching cattle lol. The stewards didn't buy that story lol.π€£ A big fall from grace for the young man after those early career wins with Stylish Memphis and some big runs from Aardies Express when she first arrived. AARDIE's Express running 1.49 for Trainor twice and winning a Group 1 last May in first 2 Aussie starts.. Then transferred to Grimson as he still has a licence lol π AARDIE's Express with 2 second placings and a last in Group 1's for Grimson. Perhaps Trainor was the better Trainer ? fun and games.

Can't be too bad the way they're rated mate. as 9 of the 16 horses in that race (10 horses if you count the scratching ) have a WIN in their last 3 races starts. and old Rachmaninov won 5 starts ago. so that's a good grading and winning ratio. But do agree that is A super Tough task for a maiden taking on so many race winning trotters like that , for sure. Musn't be anything around that a three year old trotting filly can start in ? . should head to Manawatu maybe ? ππ°
-
ALL Standardbred horses should go into a race ,Able and driven to Win it. it's the beauty of them compared to gallopers. none of this need a run or not out to the right distance yet type stuff that goes on with those galloping wonders. Mo'Unga was still 3rd favourite . behind fellow NZ Cup runner Republican Party (4th) and the race winner in Jolimont. One year ago I was tipping Jolimont as a strong NZ Cup chance ,(when Mark was driving it and winning) but ultimately he wasn't even good enough , JUST LIKE the rest of last Friday nights field , to even Start in the NZ CUP. Mo'unga should be totally Demolishing 'Frisco Bay' , 'Little Spike' and company. But wasn't driven like a NZ Cup running horse at all. Dragged back then trailing Colonel Lincoln (a 50-1 shot) 4 back on the fence. ???? Bloody Nora.π Mo was a handy 6th in the NZ Cup then beat Republican Party to win the Group 3 Summer Cup not long after that. He (Mo'Unga) should be driven to Win Against last Fridays weak opposition? , But was driven like a Coward to be honest. Didn't have one skerritt of a crack at it, at any stage. Couldn't even run in the FIRST 4 the way he drove it. A total RIP-OFF of all Punters monies. π° At least Marketplace was 'narrowly' beaten, And beaten By 2 horses that are very good , 'Rubira' and ''Choc's' have beaten him (Marketplace) convincingly in the past. I have no issue lol π€£ but Big Mo ?. what a shameful thing that was π
-
another funny add on to this story I forgot to mention, is that the kiwi connections wanted to name their purchase after one of the greatest Rugby players ever in NZ. Richie McCaw ONZ. (captained NZ in 110 of his 148 All-Black tests) but some Aussie fuc.wit stuffed it up and mis-spelt it McGaw during the naming process. at least they didn't make it 'macaw' I spose, although The Galah might have enjoyed that. π. well done to the Browns !! champions of the day winning the Showdown with McGaw. (sure to win some more too)
-
Yes and the disgraceful drive on Mo'Unga in the FFA who was showing 5-1 , should of been 50-1 the way he drove it. I was just debating with another former driver at another channel, about Mo'Unga whom he considers to be near the top horses in NZ. ( I told him DSD is) Ferguson drove big Mo like it was the worst horse in the race. the horse wanted to go early too. He just wouldn't let it. So it looks like a Double Life sentence for Craig Ferguson in that case ? . no parole . guilty as charged Marketplace and Mo. Penalty? well think Craig is considered a flop by all and sundry π and should have to explain himself to Forbury π€£ππ
-
some great placement by some kiwi's there today . Emma Lee and David Brown have stepped it up a notch from racing the 'Elephant' and 'Rhinoceros' with McGAW who wins today a Million dollar race at Caulfield. They went absolutely nuts just now down at the running rail as McGAW at just his 2nd raceday start , wins his 2nd race . Todays worth $550,000 for the winner !! A nice step up from the 30k he picked up at his first run. I think they only paid a small amount for this horse at an Inglis Sale so have hit the Jackpot today !! A few other Kiwi Trainers might be tempted to set up in Oz now to join them and Natalie Young Trent Busuttin and others that are cleaning up some Big bucks in the Lucky country.
-
sort of. I think you heard the saying 'a fool and his money are easily parted' . Gamblers are easily parted with their money at times . happens every Tab , every casino ,every day . Fact of life. Most of us invest on the harness here because we enjoy the action. I think (going by this very thread even) that most of the 'Bit of a Yarn' folk are quite good at judging a lot of the action. Galah is even exceptional (at times) π can spot the odd dropped foot lol π Doubt any of us are making a living out of it these days, where you would be more 'careful' with your dollars. my main bets have always been on the football when wanting to make a few bucks. (There's ONLY 2 starters , so a lot less can go wrong , like C.Ferguson driving π€£) Punters are often fooled out of their money . well . Brodie the exception, is no fool and says the harness action is good to follow and makes a quid , and wouldn't touch the gallops, etc . seems a wise strategy. I was a fool last night and bet just 2 horses that got 2nd and 3rd. And Immeadiately thought straight after that Brodie would of just gone a Place Bet and come out winning if he placed the bet (s) π . The Choc's went good , but got beat by a smart driver (Mark Purdon in his twilight) but a place bet was probably the go. More the fool am I. and 80 bucks less but won that on Crystal at Manawatu anyway π ( and have even more respect for Brodsters strategies now lol ) I was always in favour of Inca, along with you . Policing of sports events is important. Race fixing is a crime . It's called match fixing nowadays , and is a police charge ( not charges by stewards/stipes) so is quite a serious matter. Any deterrent to such behaviour is fine by me. When I came along here to BOAY a few years ago, there was that many posted accusations of Systematic Race fixing it was almost ridiculous ,throughout the harness racing world, so the Inca Naysayers should check those posts out lol. some action was taken to investigate over time . (Police are more easily fooled than Punters thoughππ)
