Forb's thinking he's got it shot to bits after 2 but the 'Lucky Money' was gone at the half mile in the 3rd and he stays on 16 points. Chief pulling the surprise there with Jonny Cox winning on the No. 2 Mary Lou.. The Galah joins him 'flying in' with that winner too. for 8 points. Ranga is in the 'Post' too with 'Stare' Blair looking around everywhere as they turned for home , and run down by the COXman late on accordingly . Ranga was in for 4th place as well with junior Postie Terry so gets 8 points total.... Blackie 2pts for 4th as well. Carter Dalgety with another 3rd !! good one for the Brodster , Back up attacking for the lead again 🏆. would of been a fine race driver 😁. giv'en some curry 💰.. A man of many talents is Michael .. training Not just Gallopers and the champ Delightful Lady , but Human Athletes too 😁 .. This one he's putting through her paces, going on to winning a Silver Medal for New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games in the 3000m . A delightful result !!

Thought for a moment might have been the only Lady driver to win it . As Nat was well beat with Lazarus one year and Blacks A Fake didn't Win it . (narrow 2nd) But you can't hold Nat back for too long and she did win our feature The Miracle Mile with 'Have Faith In Me' and the Vic Kate Gath won it last year I see as well (Catch A Wave) without The King of Swing running around winning it anymore.

Best of luck Champion , you're right on the pace at the start anyway from the Pole markers. Forb's has the Number 3 in every race with Team H. Also giving him a great chance of taking the Nelson Cup with FERNETTI later in the day. That leaves Team 'G' so that goes to G for great Galah . he'll ride on the No. 2 horse each race. better dig up something for Chief and self so increase the field to 10. Chief Stipe could run with Jonny Cox ?? gives him 9 drives but not much chance 😆😂. Gives the Chief 'LIVE ON LEGEND' in the Nelson Cup too ..... and Chiefs a bit of a Legend . 😎🐎
-
of course . Graeme Rogerson . He is an amazing man . (and did win Cox Plate like Kersley too ) Think he (Graeme) won a Melbourne Cup too. And still has the trotters going well (guess Dylan doing most of the work there) but still winning Derbies these days with the Thoroughbreds . Sharp N Smart winning on both sides of the Tasman. The Master Horseman alright . Found those gallopers too hard to work out myself Am sure wife Debbie helped him heaps along the way too . What a Team!! 🏆
-
Teams A-B-C-D-E now all claimed . we're getting down to the F G H 's now still available . sounds like that stands for Fricken Good Horses. 🤣 .
-
Good stuff. Mikey is in and has taken the Ladies out. A fine effort to cheer on the ladies of Sam ottley and Sarah O'Reilly Newmarket joining the Cup day with a great old boy in Tim Williams . Alta Meteor sure to go close to Winning the Cup for Tim and Newmarket too . tim with 9 drives i think Extra bonus as Newmarket was asking about the youngest Juniors to win group races in earlier thread so , we'll give him Wilson House as well to have a Williams/House team . the young 'House' man.... looks a good chance in the days last race to get a big chunk of it.
-
TEAMS A for Brodie, TEAM B for Ranga and TEAM E for Walt are ready for action. 5 Teams left to Pick from ( at start of this thread ) Nominate here if you would like a chance on Friday for a Winner and Grinner or 2

6 Good drives ok might take the day driving honours. Sam has 4 drives. giving you 10 . same as Rangatira with Blair Orange I think is in 10 of the 11 races. getting you in for the former local lad Ben Hope (possibly raised in Marlborough ?) . teamed with Gavin Smith you have 13 runners. and a good shot at the BOAY Nelson Cup .
-
"The Postman always Rings Twice" 🤣 an old saying Ranga that means the postman is delivering bad news in the old days . In these modern times perhaps 'Postman Orange' Wins Twice to take you to victory 🏆🍻

Here's some options for you Walt . The Nelson BOAY Cup for Friday . 8 Teams to do battle. First in to reply gets the Team of their choice here for a fun comp. The Brodster and the Galah and I think Blackie may have 'fluked' a win too at one stage to take a comp win. Chief and Gamma still maidens 😄. who can pick the winning Nelson Team this time round ? TEAM A/ The Carter Dalgety and Sam Thornley drives ... this team goes to BRODIE (a keen Carter supporter) TEAM B/ The Blair Orange Drives TEAM C/ The Gun girls team Sam Ottley and Sarah O'Reilly drives TEAM D/ The Tim Williams drives TEAM E/ The Ben Hope Nelson legend and Gavin Smith Drives TEAM F/ Every horse with number 1 saddlecloth TEAM G/ Every horse with number 2 saddlecloth TEAM H/ Every horse with number 3 saddlecloth Any BOAY posters are invited to play. Just pick one of the options above . Option TEAM A already taken. Post the Team letter you pick here . easy as that. No John Dunn Team as he might slip the field to easy lol... Points and results posted here after each race on Friday 12th with a great days trotting at Nelson Cup day . (Points are 8pts for 1st placegetters, 6pts for 2nd, 4 pts for 3rd, 2pts for 4th ) Winner has the most points at the end of the Day .

There's one bloke who did it at the TOP level of both codes, that will never be achieved again IMO. Fred Kersley Jnr from West Australia . Topped the drivers list in harness racing 17 times and the Trainers list on 14 occasions . In 1987 he drove the Australian record 148 winners including 136 Metropolitan winners (a record that possibly still stands for metro wins in one season ) In 1989 after several attempts to the WA turf club a training licence was achieved and he immeadiately won a race with Little Hero in July 1989. dual racing code training for a decade then >>>>>>>>>> At the turn of the century he reached Stardom as Fred trained NORTHERLY to win the famous Railway Stakes at home then went to Flemington and Won the Australia Cup 3 months later in the fastest 2000m ever run in Australia . 2001 and 4 out of 4 wins in the Melbourne Spring carnival including the Cox Plate , defeating the New Zealand Champion Sunline , who had won the Cox Plate (the biggest WFA race we have) the 2 previous years. Northerly winning 2 as well , taking victory in the 2002 Cox Plate to seal the deal as a Hall of Famer. Mark Purdon is fantastic (near best in the world in harness horse training and driving) but can't see him winning Cox Plates at any stage so Fred will be the most successful DUAL Code Trainer for All time (probably)

Nelson Trots Two Day Annual Meeting Friday 12th & Sunday 14th January.
Gammalite replied to Walt's topic in Trotting Chat
The Big Nelson meeting this week . Here's one for the local lad Walt then to try and remember. Probably no chance of picking this winner , as can't see the colours 🤣. brilliant! . Now Rangatira won't be able to nail this mare either. knew we could stump him in the end after 101 tries.🍻😎 A low class field here of horses barely winning 2 races each . Gavin Smith on the favourite mowed down late by the Number 11 who finished with a brilliant sprint from the back of the field at the quarter , and roaring home out wide from a seemingly hopeless position turning in ,(when driven by her trainer TC on this occasion). in later races by Tim. Being the class horse of this Nelson field she went on to win 7 races including a Group 2 feature mares races at Addington , beating 2 of Marks so that is pretty good , before being exported to the USA . Those slower placegetters (being a bit slower) exported to Australia later that year just before the Covid times , to try and get a win on the scoresheet. -
The harness racing doesn't need violent acts covered up. Haul them out and say please explain? Leading trainer Jason Grimson had an incident at Albion Park with kiwi lad Jack Trainor joining in , after a confrontation with JDowney . originally all DQed and warned off until a penalty review saw fines of 15k, 10k and 5k imposed. The Tassie lads were all given Fines and time off from the Ford family , and the Hillier brothers and Grant Hodges. All very prominant trainers and drivers. fighting Of Course Brodie , there's Always Extenuating circumstances and often Alcohol involved too in all these violent incidents. A poor excuse as usual. There Is No room for this behaviour in harness racing. History of bad behaviour should be punished double and we should talk about it . Might help them see the light if People comment it is UNACCEPTABLE rather than saying ..oh he needs help and support. needs removing if Repeat offenders . (like the drink driver bloke) An owner here threatened a steward once with violence of some kind (his horse not getting a favourable stewards decision) and is the worse I seen. He was removed and told "Don't come back on course ever" and he didn't even do anything . just said stuff . No violent act.. but Plenty of time now to go get 'support' he needs for violent outbursts/threats anyway 😆 . There's no excuse for that sort of behaviour. so just Like that drink driver , definitely don't ignore it . things get awful sometimes (like domestic abuse in relationships) when the person isn't called out and punished or removed for bullying/ violence/ abuse/etc . Get away with it once they just do it again at another stage ....

You've been bagging the whole North island industry for months/years calling for them to be shut down at times. Not a lot of support for the MANY PEOPLE involved in the harness racing in the North island . They must All feel 'Put down' often on this site. If someone wants to start bashing other participants (physically) then that is a VERY serious offence. people should be warned / educated whatever you want. Not just hidden in the toilet block . Assault is assault and people should not turn a blind eye . What about this bloke on the West Coast ? enough to make you move to the North just to be sake on the roads ? good grief . Maybe he needs some support, I could tell you what he really needs but think it is outlawed these days...just a disgrace even had the chance to do this damage >>>>> The children of a woman killed by a drink-driver who had dozens of previous motoring convictions have branded a judge's decision to cut his sentence “sickening”. Damian and Emma Hands said the justice system was “unfair” and designed to “protect even clear-cut guilty criminals” after Justice Jonathan Eaton slashed five months from a jail term handed to Brian Ralph Lewis. Lewis, who had already been convicted 10 times for drink-driving, was more than three times the legal limit when his car weaved across a West Coast road on April 30 last year and ploughed into one driven by Kathy Sexton. “This has changed my life in such a terrible way. He is a criminal, a gutless selfish man, and my mum – my best friend – was loving, kind and generous. “I can't believe that her life was taken by him and he got such a pathetic sentence, which is now even less. It makes me physically sick.” Lewis was jailed after admitting charges of drink-driving causing death and two counts of drink-driving causing injury following the crash near Stillwater, about 20km east of Greymouth. Lewis, who was himself seriously injured in the crash, had 43 previous driving convictions – seven for either careless or dangerous driving and 26 for driving while disqualified, along with the 10 for drink-driving. Following his appeal to the High Court that the sentence was “manifestly excessive”, Justice Eaton reduced it.
