  1. 15-1 for the Thousand Guinea's in mid November for Photograph. but just boost it with a multi . (I've taken easy NZ Cup winner LEAP TO FAME, and next weeks $2,000,000 Eureka winner NEVER ENDING at Menangle and now it's 60-1 ) $1 is on and nice 'carton' in Nov coming up compliments of Chief πŸ‘πŸΊπŸ»πŸ˜‚ thanks mate.
  2. yes , I sent him an e-mail to congratulate when Monika won her first race. Not sure exactly why he in Brissy and her over there, but should meet up with him one day and find out. Probably the lovely weather lol 😎?. nice 29 degrees today . beautiful horses training weather. Don't know how they do it at those freezing looking places like Woodend beach in Nigels video's . they (the workers) look completely miserable with 10 layers of coats on. πŸ˜‚. don't think we even bothered getting a jumper out in winter in Brisvegas . made clothes washing loads very easy anyway 😁. Albion Park was terrific to train on as well. not as much sand in your face like at Woodend Lol. The SI kiwis are very tough. No wonder the nice NZ bred horses are so tough. πŸ’ͺ A couple of horses from Southland arriving once , had over 2 Inch long coats of hair !!😳 never seen anything like it . more like a yak . The local breds here barely grow any length at all , so never had to clip them . sometimes would clip the manes off if tangling in gear I spose. here's an old snap I found warming one up around Albion Park, before a solid hit-out. could be winter as that is all year round attire lol.
  3. yeah would be the same for a glass of beer here. and the 4 July Saturday nights have a small entry fee at Albion Park for all the Group 1 racing . free entry rest of year . actually is so quiet at Redcliffe that one day last year I called in to a meeting to check out a mates horse, wandered into the lovely lounge area after race 1. no-one there 😳. so took a seat by the Big glass windows at the front right in line with the finish post . the plum position lol. Next thing a bloke plops down next to me to say g'day. I don't know him . Turns out to be Bernie Ring , the President of the club , delighted to have some-one come into the lounge. 🀣. was quite funny chatting with him about old 90's Redcliffe days then another couple wander in. And turns out to be a couple who attended my wedding 32 years ago, and hadn't seen for 30 years. They were racing a horse called CAT KING COLE that Kylie Rasmussen was training/driving for them and had bought for $28k at the yearlings sales and won a Couple of Pacing gold Finals . so they shouted me nice meal and a few Vic bitters . lucky day !! alas CAT KING COLE broke down on them later on but she had won a group 1 as well, and 8 of her 14 lifetime starts for nearly $200k . hopefully leave a nice foal for them next. just a 'bit of yarn', bit of a yarn stuff lol πŸ˜„ yes. that is a scheme they had here for a long time. A higher winning prize if Q-bred. There are so many buyers trying to buy the nice NZ horses that the local product suffers. Higher winning stake's in certain races throughout NZ (for yearling sale graduates) is definitely a Great idea !
  4. just need incentives mate. How's this for a Q-bred one this year ?(below) . The Very forward thinking Q-bred mob have tried this one this year. excellent stuff. I just about bid on a yearling myself. 😁 The yearlings sales are great too , as it promotes local breeding /studs and gets more foals on the ground. personally, I hate the Aussies buying all the kiwi racehorses all the time. πŸ™„ Boots and Bond and Jenkins plus others are leaving a huge HOLE in your racing horse numbers. Here's the cash back incentive given this year , which did lead to good bids on good horses and a successful sale of QLD bred yearlings . πŸ˜ƒ. yearling sales ARE Important for the Industry. This is why QLD harness doing well and NZ imploding . Buyers will have more incentive in 2024 following the introduction of a new QBRED cashback offer. The offer will see $2,000 (plus GST) paid to the purchaser of any QBRED horse purchased at an eligible standardbred yearling sale in 2024 for $7,500 or more. Eligible sales include: APG Gold Coast Yearling Sale – January 28, 2024; Sunshine Stars Yearling Sale – February 12, 2024; and Redcliffe Yearling Sale – March 24, 2024. Senior Racing Manager – Harness David Brick said that support for the breeding industry in Queensland – primarily via the QBRED scheme – has been a priority in recent years with over $4 million paid out in stakes and bonuses over the last 12 months.
  5. I enjoy the 'home movies' too on facebook, but they aren't the answer to save NZ harness racing. The Slot races and running Feature races are incentives for everyday people to get on -course. Alas in Brisbane we had good crowds at Redcliffe and Albion during the July FEATURE races carnival , and for the rest of the year (over 10 months) you can count the crowd number on your fingers.πŸ™„. you already get way better crowds NZ for your features spread through the year . Be like Cambridge Tuesdays , that some don't like here. (no crowd or betting) BUT it is what HRNZ are doing , and it is the right thing. They put up $45,000 in total tomorrow for 7 owners to get a winner !! and with a winner it's winner winner CHicken DInner. gives the good participants some food on the table mate. every horse racing a chance too. (no Purdon;s, Telfers and Dunn's about) I suggest On-course Jackpots should come back in.??? People seem to love the idea of a BIG win . The Brodster being top of the charts there . that is something a betting agency could put up at the track ? don't think they want too though. alas as you say . harness is 'on the nose' in NZ
  6. still breaks my heart that the young Wolfendens and the young Herlihy's spent huge chunks of their careers overseas. some still there. a real loss for NZ like Dexter. We will miss Luke in Australia if he stays with his brothers state-side. Todd and Andy doing a big job. I'm sure John Dunn could rival Dexter too. Maybe young Carter then Brodster ?? He's gone there for a look just now recent weeks. He'll be tempted with the BIG dollars there . hope he does make the shift for his sake? , and yeah Not ours. as is great to see him in action in NZ.
  7. He's a harness fan doing 'home movies' with horses running up the beach , etc , and a chat with trainers and that after a horse runs about how well they went , or where are you going next. Haven't seen anything in there advertising for people to bet (which you CONSTANTLY say is the vital component of the industry) , or horses for sale, or anything like that Brodster. His movies haven't got you buying a horse have they mate ? surely not. Can't even see how they make people attend meetings really. Was All very nice to see how Butt is preparing the North island horse OLD TOWN ROAD for the NZ Cup though. unlikely to draw people into the sport though lol πŸ˜… Why should HRNZ direct people to Nigel rather than any other syndicator ? he as you said is not employed by them. Would be like them saying what stud to buy the yearlings from. You can't play favourites. they have a Big picture to look after. like the good fields at Cambridge this week 🀣. Better for HRNZ to concentrate on breeding incentives, and racing incentives, put on some big races (which they're still doing well, with Sires Stakes, harness millions , etc. )
  8. Major Moth back at Menangle tonight , and seemed to win comfortably enough. 2nd place tonight went to the $2million Eureka Slot races favourite in NEVER ENDING. over from west Aus with GaryHall jnr and came from last for a very good closing 2nd to the Moth. Eureka in 2 weeks time. Swayzee withdrawn from the NZ Cup as has NSW races on the agenda avoiding LEAP TO FAME on his mission to Win the NZ Cup this year. No runners for Luke McCarthy tonight, who I believe is being wooed to the USA by his brothers , who have become millionaires over there. Andy and Todd in the top echelon along with your NZ boy Dexter. Luke fairly quiet since winning the miracle Mile 3 times with 'KING of SWING'. wife Belinda concentrating on the breeding and stallions at Cobbity farm rather than the racing. Luke's dad John currently disqualified with a positive , so unable to take on the runners. Wonder what happened to the Farrier ? kiwi-man Craig Cross? he had the training licence for a while. even had Group 1 wins lol. πŸ˜†. Luke could make a fortune in the states πŸ’°. seems better than paddling around Brisbane like he did all Winter. Was the countries best here at one stage. the 3 McCarthy boys would really set up to be near best in the world Togeather , and getting imports from NZ and Aus would promote our breeding industries too. John Dunn would go well state-side as well?. wonder his brother DD hasn't talked him in to it?. while he's not on the training ticket in NZ. would get bucketloads of money and much less Sand and that cold beach wind in his face lol.
  9. get on next time if they place the horse at a track with a longer straight , than this shitty MV one. looks quite a nice horse that one. nearly got in the photo finish too lol.
  10. Made an error and was spose to stay handy. Stewards asked what happened. Just one of those things in an 8 horse field. Jamie did well with LAUDING at her next ride , and very 'Inconveniently' Beat one of my 3 Punts today. Thought the kiwi LINCOLN ROCKS was a goodie today. very disappointed with Photo . Jamie burned off with SEA WHAT I SEE. ran last just now. Ran last. that's racing. just a fast horses up in front and Harry Grace gets a nice win for a change with old ROLLS.
  11. Drive home 4 at the same time could the Brodster on his day ! seen here in action when on the money . Could he arrive at the post on time though ?
  12. Incorrect. I live for these sort of races because it so hard to pick for the average punter. Bigger dividends attract my dollar a lot more than a 1.50 favourite in an 8 horse field. That is one of the reasons that grass is so popular for punters. Fair enough Now or Never. Most of the blokes here have said they enjoy the punt on the Southern races. That's good.πŸ‘πŸΊ I should of said I feel that the Cambridge results are slightly easier to pick . so seemed to me a better race to punt on ( I have high expectations with my punting and expect every dollar invested to win , and take no chances lol. strike remains 50% so I'm happy with that. ) I think the quality of product at Addington tonight is very good . the horses and drivers are of excellent quality. The First 2 races have gone to outsiders , I would of been No Hope In Hell of picking them , and even less chance of investing πŸ’° on them.πŸ˜† Best of Luck to all those having a crack at it though , there's fun to be had !!!!
  13. well it's just that the people involved (owners and Trainers and drivers) like to get a win . Just as much as the punters. Some Punters are happy with small collects. (Brodie isn't so he suffers) KIWI Trainer here in Brisbane . RILEY BUTT . son of Tim Butt . you guys would know him well. Yesterday (the equivalent of your Cambridge racing day is run here Thursdays for low/slow class horses ) he started his race team and won 2 races , and some placings. He's still a junior driver, and drives some himself but has taken on the training with Tim near retired. He won 2 races in an incredible 1.53.6. the other in 1.52.2 . (with 2 horses Ant's Butt has a share in actually). They picked up $3,755 each . It's not about the money . It's good placement to WIN A RACE. They probably wouldn't be able to beat Big Team trainers Pete McMullen and Grant Dixon on a Saturday Metro night , so don't even bother trying . Riley making a great fist of the Training. At least he saw the light and doing well here supporting QLD harness than the mud-slinging fest of NZ. So Cambridge and Manawatu are worth having so they can Win a race there too. Even if it was for $2000 . better than getting mugged by BarryP, Telfer, Herlihy and that in the city. The meeting appears 'Unattractive' . well whippy Doo. Just be glad some participants are getting a win up . (while they still can with the ever decreasing attitudes of Nz harness (and galloping ) racing Industries.
  14. good points . yes having a race-course that lease out boxes/barns to young trainers is the Best thing that can happen. Young kiwi lad Jack Trainor making a good go of it at Menangle , when wouldn't of had a chance otherwise. their lease payments help pay the track management that they use each day. The owner situation is hard. Boots has bought a lot of horses and placed them around many trainers since having 1/2 million from Betterzippit 's slot and Swayzee in NZ Cup. Maybe the young trainer needing a horse could ask Dean Shannon for one or 2 (who has a whole heap with Barry Purdon already. ) one young bloke here got a horse a 2 off/for Seymour (Leap To Fame millionaire owners) by asking. With Mark Purdon now near retired and Nathan not quite filling his boots , big Allstars owners in Woodham and Gibbs would be likely targets ?? they already gave MAJOR HOT to young Canterbury Trainers David and Stacey White in a grand gesture , and got a great result with them winning their First Group 1 last month , the Queensland Derby. Keep your fingers crossed Woodham/Gibbs leaves the horse with them for the NZ Derby in December πŸ™πŸ€ž. This is the WAY to Get good young people going in the game . They deserve it . FYI . The horse that MAJOR HOT defeated in the Queensland Derby , an Emma Stewart runner named BAY OF BISCAY has made it into the $2,100,000 Eureka in 2 weeks time racing in Seymours slot. showing $9 win and $3 place. a red hot chance.
  15. get a grip man. the boys here always grumpy (the big boy anyway) reminds me of the real racing stipes from the driving days. always seemed grumpy with something ya did/said , but still keen to give you a holiday all the time πŸ˜‚ Ellerslie must be about to jump? . can't wait. have to try and pick something in the Te Rapa mudfest this week-end though πŸ™„, for comps, but at least some goodies are kicking off at Royal Randwick (with Jmac on another 3-4 winners ) to keep the action smoking. Bad enough battling the trotting blokes wanting to take the winners at Cambridge off the poor folk there, (as not enough of them apparently so why should HRNZ support those that are left at all ) when the All important South Island deserves the punting dollar more. Any hows some good Spring Racing should cheer them up shortly. dodge those bar fights mate. you only spill ya beer and get grumpy yourself then πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸΊ
  16. I bet on 2 starter races like a lot of people that I know . Football like NRL, EPL, AFL etc. . Plenty of $1.80 pop's winning Every week. LOVE small fields mate. you're not a driver but can tell you it is INFINITELY better to drive in a 8 horse field compared to a 10 horse one. You can even still be 8th at the quarter , and still a chance of winning. That stupid race this Friday with 16 ?? 8 horses will be No chance 400m out. That's the difference my friend. I had a place bet the other week at Cambridge on Majestic Ruby , who I couldn't see missing a place , in the 7 horse field. (1st or 2nd) horse racing is for enthusiasts and mugs. A lot of us are both 🀣. Plenty of horses running with NO CHance all the time. Better to have 2 starters on your Bet Westy !! 😁 . You have been pouring money into the Dunn v Telfer Premiership battle so you know exactly what i'm talking about. This Friday, That 16 horse field will flatten a couple of old mate John Dunn's as well (potentially) . with 6 runners in it. better if was 2 heats as he would have 2 lots of happy owners then . Rather than jealous stable rival owners that make life difficult. and the 'excuses' having to be made constantly. like Driver errors with young drivers and other total BS like that. Newman seems to get bugger all drives. thought he had passed away for a minute. not likely to get any better (at driving) anyway. At Cambridge in those small fields/low stakes, ALL THE YOUNGSTERS are getting a go lately , and doing a great job , and just as likely to Win as David Butcher. You guys just don't get it. you need these type of races for the young drivers to get better.!! Can't All be like Sarah O'Reilly and Carter and still be good chance, in the Big field sizes as a youngster/ learner driver.
  17. Of course . More horses come back into racing in the Spring and Summer. Always have. you blokes critiicising the smaller fields at Cambridge as some are just getting worked up , is just being impatient. Of course split the fields !! . Give more owners a winner , and your horse doesn't have to work as hard trying to get round heaps of horses. the Horses benefit from this as well. I can tell you the REDICULOUS Big field On Friday night at Addington (16 in the Maurice Holmes Vase) is just Stupid. should be split into 2 x 8 horse fields. maybe run as heats with a Final next week which would Attract More interest (and revenue) this is because > 1/ because punters won't touch it , as too hard to pick and people Value their money more these days. Cambridge races much easier to pick? and therefore invest on. πŸ’°πŸ‘ 2/ A lot of horses resuming their Spring Campaigns. They are gunna be'' flattened' from the first run back trying to win this race (if they're racing fair dinkum') .Which I suspect many won't. making it even MORE Farcical. 3/ 16 horse fields like that are just a ''relic of the past'. and very hard for owners (and the mugged South Island punters) to get a quid in. They'd be way better shipping to Auckland and actually having some hope of a win with their 'Intermediate grade' pride and joy. rather than try and win that against BD Joe and company. πŸ˜ŽπŸ†
  18. Well they ATC leased back Franklin after sellingit as am sure a few of the trainers that are left are still using it like Hackett/wallis , steven Reid and others. Great horse country that area . With room for everyone. should just use it. (no room at Alex Park area) FRanklin would of been the ideal spot to do what the Galah said with the Forbury Sale money for Canterbury , and build a State of the Art Racing centre with Barns to rent out to the young Trainers without a property. Sell Alexandra Park (which is hard to get too and in financial trouble) It's gunna get sold at some stage anyway. Franklin nice distance for Waikato trainers to use constantly too. The Menangle model enabled young Trainers like the young kiwi Jack Trainor , to have a barn of horses and win big races (although currently out DQ with a Positive, but he'll be back) so as the Galah pointed out a Canterbury facility with barns to rent , will greatly assist the young Trainers and be a valuable asset into the future. Auckland harness racing probably would of died sooner without Dean Shannon (or Stonewall as well) from lack of numbers, as would of Albion Park here Brisvegas, without Kevin Seymour. (multi millionaire's who love running their horses) . We Need more of them !!. where's John Green now? he could help. As Brodster often points out the betting model is a dead loss. I think that's been the case for a long time. Harness just NOT Popular to bet on , with the gamblers around. Too many things go wrong and it's reputation is Terrible/Tarnished all the bloody time.
  19. Well it's a poor product to bet on anytime mate. Not many Do. I'm just home from Albion Park where saw a mates horse race today, where there was 20 people (patrons) upstairs inside the stand , and none betting. The old lady at the one tote window was sitting there knitting. Yes I know people don't have cash , so are betting on their phone. There were more people in the mid-section of the stand that has been leased out as a fitness centre ,open daily πŸ˜†πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ But still . You've said it yourself I think once or twice. Sports Betting is their (any betting agency) Priority and it's what the demand is for. I'm a harness fan Bigtime but FAR more likely(5 x more likely) to bet on gallops races (Aus) and football. It's just the way it is. Only 2 starters in the football so odds of winning are HUGE. the Trots?? mmmmm.so you want to see Increase Turnover ? won't happen mate. At least the ENTAIN CEO has bought 17 horses at your sales (to support Breeders) and the Northern harness racing scene. When he doesn't have to. ENTAIN probably happy to Just put races on for The Last FEW of us Legitimate Harness racing supporters (and Participants as The Galah and I have mentioned a few times) left to Enjoy. like a lot of other sports that survive (just) without betting , and are just still going because of Horse Loving people. (show-jumps, etc)
  20. But the horses connections aren't running at a loss Brodster. They are ALL actually getting some money now. This will keep them interested. If you lose the remaining participants there won't be ANY Racing At ALL. And then it would be because no silly bugger was putting on any races for them to compete in. 'Something' is better than 'Nothing' mate. You should know that as a Punter even. even if not an owner of a race-horse. the owners need as many runs as they can get from their horse. QLD send them round every week. only way they can pay their way. The days of sitting around waiting for the grass tracks season (because they go a bit slower) are over my friend. All those horses would run at a loss over there. Except Dunn's I spose who are game enough to race fast tracks as well as grass. Did away with racing on grass altogether in the North Island I see. Not a FINANcially Viable thing to run Brodster ? you'd love that.
  21. Long as we can remember Chief , that bloke has been sinking the boot into Dunn's for ever. Just a hater of harness racing. Wish we could send him back to NZ. He did get arrested here once for his ridiculous crusade against someone. Dunn's Diamond stable are NZ's leading trainers and know how to treat their horses well. I'm not a fan of Ben Yole in Tassie either , (because of the loaded races) . He was once Australia's leading trainer (most wins per year) He trained many 'Out of The Paddock ' in Tassies freezing conditions. But RSPCA inspected many times (from neighbour complaints) , and found the horses to be fed and rugged ok, and injuries were treated etc by all the young staff there doing the best they knew how'. So seems the Animal welfare is under control there and profit wrong again. (Ben Yole is currently warned Off along with brother Tim.) The drivers Mitchell and Nathan Ford also were charged for Match fixing driving Yole runners. somehow Mitch and Nathan are back driving though, so seem to have beaten the race fixing charges πŸ™„. bit of a surprise really) Horses currently race in Ben's Dad name now. Wayne Yole . but he only allowed to start maximum 4 horses per Race (new rule change) to stop all the fixing lol πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ instead of having the entire race field in 2 or 3 races every raceday . seems a good move lol.
  22. It looks like a great race-card tomorrow πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ for NZ racing , with some nice horses, the Top jockeys and even some good odds to be had . In a beautiful setting. I'm sure the 'cones' can be moved for the day in case Huey gets worried by them . They'll Need them at the RBT's anyway , on the way home πŸ˜†
  23. What a beautiful spot Chief. Loved going up to the Shifting sands of Ruakaka to drive in the 80's. Legend and champion of New Zealand Mark Purdon won his Very first race there in the summer of 82' driving Dark and Dusty. Just seems like last year lol πŸ˜†. Not sure when harness stopped but I'd gladly come out of retirement and train there , if they bought harness racing back. could even do track management for them ! shoeing ? no. get someone else lol 🀣
  24. The Thursday 'slow' horses are normally racing at Redcliffe Walt. way out of depth today. Just having their weekly burn at Albion Park this week for some reasonπŸ€” . possibly track surfaces work today at Redcliffe or something similar. Everyone knew for that race 5 today, that one Albion Park winner/performer in the race would win it. Even from the bad draw. Cosmic Flyer the only regular Albion Park horse in the field so was a living certainty.
