    Waimate

It is the Waimate meeting at Waimate and has attracted 234 nominations which suggests it is highly popular. Local trainers and stable staff do have the right to run at a local course. And long may it continue.

    Waimate

So it's all about Canterbury. What about the many horses, owners and trainers from the local area. ?Aren't they even allowed one day on their local course?

    Waimate

The gallops were unceremoniously pushed out by some clueless half wits in the admin hierarchy.

    Waimate

234 nominations for little old Waimate is excellent. It's good to see the course still being favoured by harness after the hasty retreat of the gallops. It's a good winter course. The locals deserve better.
  5. Well done to them. Third in the guineas, third in the Oaks. Great work. Go Riverton.
  6. Well done to Bradley for the way he's got this horse running. He's certainly got Dad's skill and patience.

  7. Excellent suggestions. I am an industry outsider but that all makes sense to me. Now who's the person in charge of South Island racing who can make these things happen?
  8. Well I never have anything of importance to say, but it's never stopped me.....
  9. To go back to your original question....I notice that this thread has had 336 views yet only a handful of comments. Most threads are the same....lots of rubber neckers or tyre kickers. Why don't some of them say something and contribute?
  10. Good runs today. You pleased?
  11. I agree. There has been so much moving around of race dates, it really makes little sense.
  12. If you were put in charge of scheduling the South Island programs, what are some of the first changes you would make?
  13. In the UK it's a time honoured prestigious race. Here it's a rather poor non event. Just 9 starters, and early on in the day. It's been like this for some time. Can anything be done to revive it, energize it, or is this just another fizzer?
  14. Possibly getting ready to cheer your runners on today.
  15. About 35 in the trials at Oamaru today. The heart of the South.
  16. By my count, 8 races so far for 8 different winning stables. It makes the racing so much more interesting.
  17. And as a bonus, the spoils will be shared around, and we won't have to endure the tiresome "All stars are fantastic" brigade.
  18. Very impressed that a smallish club like Northern Southland, can put up $200,000 in stakes. Well done to them.
  19. On my TV, Mick Guerin equals mute button.
  20. We keep hearing a lot about courses that they want to close. But I am just curious to know, what was the last brand new gallops racecourse that was built in NZ??
  21. I have a biased, one eyed approach to the Pro Otago camp.
  22. True. There are many obstacles in the path. But one thing that annoys me about racing, is a reluctance to think outside the box. Where's the vision and imagination gone? Time for new ideas.
  23. Sadly no. More rabbits I think.
  24. And any horse with names Kelly and Evander.
  25. I have wondered for some time about the untapped potential of Cromwell. The region is starting to boom, it is perfectly situated being handy to the money of Wanaka and Queenstown. And there must be opportunities to attract new owners, investors, sponsors, from such a wealthy location. Or is that one for the too hard basket?
