The three tracks where I was introduced to harness racing have now all gone. Hutt park, Manawatu and Forbury. Good luck getting the next generation interested.
Why close Roxburgh.? An iconic summer meeting with the apricots. Good fields, well attended. Save the industry by closing popular destinations...bizarre
Perhaps ensuring penguins were keeping the required distance from each other.
To be fair, they bring many people to town who spend money. If the racecourse closed down, I don't think many would care. But if the penguins decide to move on, it would have a big effect.
It's been a really good thread. I agree with recent posters that Forbury Park is still important, it has a role to play in a major city. It's an important middle point between Canterbury and Southland.
Obviously the facilities are an issue, and that comes down to money. Let's hope that there is sufficient energy and vision to make things happen, as it would be good to see it come back with a bit of oomph. After all, Otago....it's all right here
Agree entirely. In my area, not one case of the virus. Yet businesses are going to fold, and livelihoods ruined. This isn't Spain or Italy, but the response now is ludicrous.
And I watch the likes of Brad Williamson, down the road from me, with his plans for his champion trotter, upended.
So, yes, there are many who are being affected, unnecessarily.
There are a lot of people under pressure at the moment. That doesn't give them the right to lash out as Mr Orange did. It's time that adults responded with maturity and self control.
