The Timaru Cup gets run...at Timaru. But the Timaru Stakes always gets run at Christchurch. Can someone please enlighten as to why?

Interesting that most of the Knights current runners have been transferred to Matty Williamson. Just another step up the training ladder for Matty, who is close friends with the Knights.

At least Mr Van Beynen gets a reaction. People are suddenly talking about harness racing, especially on this site. Unlike the people who post positive, constructive, non abusive things....they just largely get ignored.

There was a time when this was a major event on the southern racing series. But now the stakes for the cup are not great, the supporting races don't look anything special. Is this day being deliberately downgraded, or just a sign of the times?

I presume that the horse is still stuck in Auckland, with Australia closing its borders. At least, Bradley made it over. Let's hope ,for the connections sake, that the travel disruption won't be major.

Auckland offers the big stakes on Friday for some small fields. But Methvens nominations are huge. At least it shows that grassroots heartland racing in the south is still alive and kicking.

Always one of my favourite jockeys to serve after the races. Even if he had a bad day's racing, he was always polite and friendly. A pleasure to deal with.
