Only 6 races last year, seems to me their is a bit of a lull after the Grand National meeting so be interesting to see how numbers stack up. 4 maiden races as well as a open handicap sprint programmed one wonders if this day should be a week later and this week run on the AWT. Trots at Oamaru Sunday, here's a question someone must know will the trackside crew set up Friday and stay over for Sunday or go home and return Sunday morn, trackside are trying to cut cost, might that be a reason for Friday Sunday at same course or totally irrelevant.

I don't live in Dunedin but when it's snows and roads freeze the hill roads are almost non negotiable until the thaw, just as they were this morning. Insurance companies must dread Dunedin in the winter, plenty of dents in vehicles.

Adelaide, u live there ?

Dunedin is worse. Re, frost.

In our ever increasing strange world we live in you are man women or something in-between. Spose the Catholic church should state that if you are a boozer a fornicator, a pedophile, a gambler or a transgender you are not welcome at our church. Unfortunately for them they would have hardly anyone left to turn up.

Slightly off topic but j note the Beaumont meeting at Wingatui has been moved to the Sunday and the Forbury harness races are no more, that seems odd as a trotting meeting is at Oamaru same day, 2 meetings so close. Mondays seem to be out of favour except for Public holidays and I've thought that Mondays and Tuesdays maybe be non trackside days to cut cost thus being more profitable. It must cost the same to cover those non event greyhound meetings yet turnover suggest not many give a shit. Basically we only race Wednesdays to Sunday plus holiday times and of course 2 Tuesdays in November. More is not always best Just a thought.

HRNZ Joins The Sweepstake Subsidisation Folly.

Sometimes I get a bit off course , the Xtra stakes probably won't increase horse numbers or owners or whatever, I still am curious as to what Entain thinks they will get back, I doubt turnovers will change. If the grins race has funded itself as it is then hrnz should just leave it alone. -

It's almost a long long tradition, the old pie or pottle of chips as the main cuisine on race night or showday or whatever, probably ain't improved much. What about MrWhippy, is he contracted to the TAB to do desert .? -

What my issue with senz is, right now there is womens football match, it's being broadcast on the Auckland am frequency, the rest of their stations are taking their so called racing coverage, why can't they just have a 11 till 8 radio racing show, but they knock off at 5 then do reruns, many times they knock of at 5 to broadcast league, they have apps to shift things on 2 as well, even if the TAB had a online radio during those busy days then relay it back on radio, not that difficult, Peter Williams and Sean Plunket have setup online radio stations, difference is they only broadcast some of the time but you can listen on demand. Can't really do that with live events, racing missing a trick here. Senz has got potential but will they reach it ?
-
Weather is not good, that's the nature of winter racing though, when it's gets wet on the East Coast it gets wet.
-
Always thought sports betting money went back to sports, not racing. Easy to criticise sports tagging on to TAB but you won't attract new customers without it.
-
Where is all this money coming from or where will Entain recoup its spending spree?
-
Good fields, hopefully it don't snow or the critics of NZTR will be out in force for scheduling a July meeting on grass. 😀

Doomed you like I always go into bat for Timaru being used more, I noted there was a day in the calendar on Sunday where a meeting at Washdyke was probably a good idea, not sure about your assumption their being a firm track, at this time of year could.easy.strike a day like Wingatui got. I note next month Oamaru race on a Friday after.Grand National week and have programmed a open handicap, numbers will more than likely be thin, that day is better for the AWT and Oamaru maybe a week later but as I've stated before, what do I know.

Senz this morning have announced they will be broadcasting NZ Cricket for four years so they must be planning on sticking around. But will they be a radio version of spark sport, not doing well financially according to news reports. The magic network that closed down today fm would probably have.kept the cricket if it was profitable to do so. Newstalk zb has a audience over 700 000, senz around 35000, while that's not many still shows there is a market for them but the zb network shut radio sport down because it weren't paying. Interesting reading was the survey that showed that the majority of people still listen to radio as opposed to listening online and over 80 percent still when driving listen to radio as opposed to smartphones. That proves radio is still a big player in people's live so why is racing allowing basically no radio coverage. Only ones who will listen online are probably hard-core, you will find if you really want but racing with no radio presence is not going to attract new followers. Interestingly senz in year one had afternoon shows exclusively for most days of cup week, but don't think they bothered in year 2, racing for them is not that important but racing needs good radio coverage, it needs to be in the foreground not the background. Spose the buck stops with those running TAB nz, if they think running a bits and pieces online stream is sufficient then those in charge of the media need replacing. Having said that some of Senz programming is a bit odd too, so many replays or running similar programmes to other stations at same time, note Canterbury sport on Saturday morning or the rural show same time as the country. Senz don't have exclusive rights to broadcast commentary, Cricket Nrl etc etc are on the abc in Australia but they do have exclusive radio rights in NZ, sometimes they think they want to entertain rather than inform, the racing coverage they put up is shit, I haven't listened for a.long time, can't be hard to get it right. No great hardship for some sports to be broadcast through the app while racing has its time in the limelight too, knocking off before 5 on a Saturday is ridiculous. The interesting question is will they keep going, can't keep losing money and not many sports racing stations have stayed for long. Maybe if they listened to some of the racing people then those same racing people might listen to them, simple. As it stands about the only thing I pay much attention to senz is the programme guide, I've noticed the days local content knocks off at 6 at present, are they trimming costs already ?
-
I note senz is not going that well financially, not sure if that's the NZ section only or overall but I have noticed that local content seems to be reducing after 6 pm, based on what's on the programme guide, . I dont listen purely because they treated racing audiences as a bunch of idiots so I sort of said fuckem. Once you lose listeners it's hard to get them back.

Geo blocking can be done, but only if betting sites are barred from accepting accounts or bank transaction from a certain country. Should it happen, NO.
-
I wasn't saying they are corrupt but it seems to me that a lot of their planning is subject to geo blocking, I'm all for our lot as far as where we should be putting our dollars. We are a very small market in NZ and everything revolves around turnover, be a difficult task in today's economic climate lifting turnover. I still think trackside could be more profitable if they didn't bother with Monday and Tuesday dog meetings.
-
So many things with Entain have me mystified, if there is money floating around then track upgrading is a must, think back to the good old days when those AB matches were played on those bogs, called rugby fields, they have improved, so has the product. I still can't see how this Entain lot are thinking they are going to make dollars, if bribing the authorities to geo block I think that is corrupt and put them in the same category as Sky who strangely have put their online streaming charges up the same day spark pull the pin. Trackside could be more profitable if it only had local crew from Wednesdays to Sundays, forget screening Monday and Tuesday dog meetings, no one gives a shit about them.

You must have stacked a lot on it judging by the short price Kods.

The Timaru course has been well discussed and Doomed keeps bringing it up. It is really up to the powers that be have to listen to the participants if they want to shut Timaru. Personally I reckon it's all bullshit but if they want to shut one of Oamaru or Timaru what would you do ? Common sense should prevail.
