  1. How does one not know if the bigger turnovers are by races being broadcast on trackside one ? I often question why the TAB screen greyhound races someday, the turnover is so poor with tv coverage hardly worth their while.
  2. Races back at Gore today, no street parade or public holiday In the town, while people waffle on if they want to close track down, often they also hardly turn up anyway. Guess at the end of the day the public turning up isn't the big issue, the track being used is.
  3. If geo blocking comes in ,.no tax for the Nats.
  4. Spark sport had trackside, but it didn't shift to freeview. People may be moving away from normal tv, but streaming everything online, nice to have balance, does everybody want to spend all their life online, I don't, who does? Tvnz and Newstalk zb have the biggest audience in their various mediums because they are free to everyone.
  5. Any live sport on free to air will always have a bigger audience,
  6. What actually is the difference money wise screening trackside on Sky as opposed to freeview, freeview has the greatest audience,, someone must know.
  7. 30000 bet on the late quaddie at the Mot yesterday, a far cry from the 4500 odd at Winton a day earlier, it's all about timing and depths of field, those Mot figures compare well with Awapuni on Saturday, just saying.
  8. How much rain in Rotorua today. Anyone know ?
  9. I'm quoting myself here, the early quaddie at Gore gallops is 4600, that's not much, the main quaddie is guaranteed 20000, the TAB will top that up, Southland gallops don't get greatest turnover except the big days through summer, people ain't betting as much as we think, while we go on about aussie races if you look at pools for non commingled pools then some are fuck all. One wonders how Entain are going to maintain stakes if turnovers are stagnant.
  10. They have the invercargill cup on Dec 22, a Friday after Easter all the dates are Saturdays and so is club rugby, by the time racing is finished so is club rugby, rugby is not what it used to be both are intertwined.
  11. Well at least Gore will get their day in the sun which is exactly contrary to what they had on Thursday.
  12. Saturdays are now the domain of the gallops, harness no longer exist, Saturday nights no longer exist for , it's the domain of Sport, but I've always queried why the inconsistent calendar, why today just out of the blue Winton race Saturday yet next three or four days go back to midweek, it's got me beat.
  13. I often check out the exotic pools as a guide to how much interest is on some of these harness meetings, today's main quaddie at Winton was less that 5000, that's fuck all.. Last Friday with small fields invercargill main quaddie was over 10000. Alexandra Park was over 13000 on a Friday night and while that's not massive it shows that harness racing mostly gets pushed into the background on Saturdays now The Invercargill Cup last year was supposedly a success last year yet strangely is on a Friday this year.
  14. Don't be surprised if Gore gets canned as well, rains gone but aftermath lingers on.
  15. 10 races, good numbers too, mostly Southern trained also, one wonders sometimes if more meetings are needed in the South, as well as Timaru, even a few mini meetings now and then, problem is would the tracks handle more use, it's always a gamble weather wise, strangely they have moved now to Sunday which is probably a smart move with heavy rain tomorrow , spose if you wait 4 months what's a couple of days.
  16. Nominations for Gore Friday are good, maybe 10 races but heavy rain for Thursday, so that's a bit of a shame, maybe 10 races but will the powers that be be keen, there is a double standard it seems.
  17. I would think Reon Murtha would have called the race.
  18. When was it ?
  19. This meeting made the news last year as it was abandoned through lack of numbers, numbers are low and maybe there is a preference for Wyndham as it gets better numbers, even better than Winton. But as a rule it's pretty ordinary in Southland in recent times.
  20. It's mad that you can't bet on NZ TAB if you are overseas, especially if you are a NZ citizen, why, I would like to know.
  21. Interesting comment that Gore are able to race at home while they work out the venues plan, then what?
  22. At least it is being used. Te Awamutu the same, gee even one race day a year at each venue would probably be better than another non event at some of the other courses. Omakau have 1 race day a year, harness but no horses trained there but as its races at right time it's a boomer, same 4 Kaikoura.
  23. A bit wasted really.
  24. Times change, no real need to have TABs on their own, the pubs and TAB cater for the same people and it probably pays off to combine, after all the pubs probably ain't raking it in either. All the pubs have the pokies so probably made sense to close them down in TABs, not worth the hassle anymore, especially as Entain are going to start raking it in with the massive boost in turnover they are anticipating 🙂
  25. If it was paying that for a place then something else in the chaff would be handy.
