    HRNZ CEO

I never said he was a chance, let alone a “shoe in” I merely pointed out that you weren’t on the money, and had no idea who Trotsfan was talking about I have never met PYdgren but I do know his qualifications stack up against the job description Mikie

    HRNZ CEO

I'm right so far. CEO's job advertised now Will be filled before Christmas Current CEO will stay on over holiday period to bed in new appointee, then he will quietly slip away but be paid out until 31 March 2021 I can pick now who will get the job but won't name them openly as that would hinder their chances Happy to have a wager on who is appointed, I'll put their name in a sealed envelope and let Chief Stipe hold it Chief Executive Industry Leadership Role, Christchurch H/O Growth, Support, Regulation Dynamic and Challenging Position Harness Racing New Zealand (HRNZ) is the governing and administrative body for 40 harness racing Clubs nationwide and oversees 257 race meetings across 25 venues each year for stakes in excess of $33M. The Chief Executive interacts directly with all industry stakeholders, including: Harness Racing Clubs and Kindred Bodies, Breeders, Owners, Trainers, Drivers, Racing NZ, TAB NZ, Racing Integrity Board, NZ Thoroughbred Racing, Greyhound Racing NZ, sector groups, Harness Racing Australia, International harness racing bodies, and the media. This is a challenging and exciting time to take the HRNZ reins as the racing industry responds to the changes resulting from the Racing Industry Act 2020 coming into effect, the establishment of TAB NZ, and the formation of Racing NZ which is the new body representing the interests of the three racing codes. Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive is responsible for leading the smooth running and development of HRNZ’s services, administration, and operational functions, including Finance, Information Technology, Handicapping, Registrations, Racing and Communications, Education, Marketing, Health and Safety, and Animal Welfare. The position requires strong strategic capability and superb people leadership skills to realise HRNZ’s vision. The appointee needs to have previous experience in successfully leading an organisation through a period of change, be able to deal with the complexity and politics in relation to multiple stakeholder views and expectations, and to grow HRNZ’s already strong service culture. The appointee will have a track record of leading high performing teams, be an excellent communicator both written and verbal, and confident in building positive media relationships. An interest and understanding of the harness racing and/or equine industries is preferred but is not essential. A competitive remuneration package will be offered that acknowledges the strategic leadership and commercial qualities the appointee will bring to HRNZ. Application process: To apply in confidence please contact Hamish Ott, Recruitment Consultant; email hamish@gothamuniversal.co.nz or initial confidential enquiries by telephone 0274321172 For more information visit https://www.hrnz.co.nz The final close off date for applications is 12 October 2020.
  6. On a slightly different note I see a horse called Hayden Bromac won I remember a horse by that name staying at my stables 30 years ago I would have lost a fortune to someone because I was sure that that horse won the Wellington Cup at Hutt Park after it travelled on My memory must be going, it didn't, I looked his record up He did win an Ashburton Cup though Mikie
  7. It’s pretty damn obvious
  8. I think you have little idea Richie Kaikoura contributes the most to the Industry Addington would break even if HRNZ hadn't chucked them a sneaky extra $1,000,000 Auckland are subsidised by the Kaikouras, the Westports, the country Clubs Mikie
  9. Happy Bernard must have been misquoted It can't be three business consultants He must have said free Mikie
  10. OK Mikeynz, tell me how that would work at Kaikoura Cup day or NZ Cup day with the once a year punters? Mikie
  11. No, you are not off beam, you are 100% correct How many Clubs had their Funding increased after the Funding Policy was announced? Every Club that screamed is the answer And if you didn't scream until too late? Then you didn't get extra creating anomalies (but I doubt Tasman Man is well enough informed to even know this) Mikie
  12. At least Happy Sunrise's posts are intelligent mikeynz Your enthusiasm is your only strong point Mikey
  13. mikeynz, can't knock your enthusiasm, but you are either well behind or think others are This isn't something any of us will find, it is old news and hasn't altered for a number of seasons, it's just getting worse Mikie

Swop the beer for a double shot, decaf, low fat milk peppermint latte and it's a striking resemblance Mikie
  15. Permanency? My pick is that he won't apply for the CEO's job when it is advertised I predict that the CEO position will be advertised and filled before Christmas and an announcement made that the new CEO will work alongside Phil until 31 March 2021 to ensure consistency Then in January 2021 Phil will quietly slip away but be paid until 31 March 2021 Mikie

    2IC at HRNZ

Happy, I always thought that in order to offer advice one should know what they bare talking about. In respect of Funding Policy and Race Dates I doubt Phil is in a position to offer any advice Race Dates probably are, along with Funding Policy, the 2 most critical functions that are undertaken. Why is one of them being passed down to the 2IC? Mikie
  17. I see from the advert for the position of General Manager-Racing at HRNZ that the successful applicant has amongst their duties race date allocation Probably one of the most important drivers of Turnover and has always been done by the CEO previously Perhaps Phil is too busy Mikie
  18. I do not know enough about Thoroughbreds or AWT's to even to begin to formulate an opinion on them one way or the other But can you name me 1 business that would spend $15 million on an Asset (or 3 x $15million = $45million) without knowing it's ongoing running costs? Mikie
  19. Thanks Counter Punch If I win I'll put the $200 each way on something paying a bit Here's my guesses! 1. #15 Five Wise Men 2. #13 Mayhem In Malibu 3. #5 Khal Drogo 4. #8 The Black Shadow 5. #5 Rogie Falls 6. #9 Ripsnorter 7. #5 Champagneandwine 8. #4 John James Preston 9. #8 Magical Mali 10. #7 Bright Glow 11. #3 Morningstar Gold 12. #11 Already Gone Mikie
  20. I am obviously not a supporter of Mr Holden but I don’t think you can blame him for this Brodie All codes aren the same and, to be fair, with the financial constraints that the TAB are operating under how xan you expect them to fund codes in advance? Would you pay me $3,000,000 now on the promise that I’ll do work for you in the coming month or would you expect to pay me after I’d done the work for you? Mikie
  21. "Brodie" The TAB paying out in arrears hasn't really caused the cashflow problem at HRNZ Mikie
  22. The last hope we had at HRNZ gone Genuine and knowledgeable Phil Holden doesn’t understand Ken Colin can’t provide guidance We are stuffed Mikie

  23. No, the loss of Wilson’s Bar would not have resulted in a loss of stake money as I don’t think any ever flowed from there. They would have lost plenty on the fire sale though, my guess is between 50%. and 75% of what they paid for the Bar will be written off Other Bars will probably also be sold and they will lead to a lost funding avenue They got greedy and went to the well once to often but for that I’m not castigating them. Hindsight is a wonderful thing Mikie
  24. Chief (1) In 19/20 Harness was to receive $44,800,000 less Trackside and Venue Service Recoveries of $4,800,000 resulting in a round $40,000,000 This season the figure that Harness is to receive is $40,823,000 and I'm sure that's after giving the Greyhounds a $900,000 payment That's not a 7% decrease That's a 2.1% Increase (2) The page #3 above As I've said I haven't delved into it too deeply but $41.6m less $4m plus $0.3m= $37.9million, not $41m Did HRNZ have reserves they dug into? I don't think so and if they did then the 13 pages isn't very transparent is it? What about the notion that HRNZ overspent last year by $3.1m? Sounds like amateur hour and unbelievable but nothing is surprising me any more. We could tell if we had the current season's Club Spreadsheet of funding but (a) they are still altering it depending on the decibel of the screaming and (b) it's a secret (what happened to transparency again?) Mikie
