  1. To some extent it probably depends which AI you use though they all seem to manage to get things wrong or misunderstood. I wouldn't use any that didn't cite sources. Who won the 1997 NZ Derby Copilot said: Copilot The winner of the 1997 New Zealand Derby was Zonda, a bay gelding sired by Zabeel. He delivered a commanding performance, winning the Derby by an impressive margin of over four lengths.wikipedia+1 Would you like me to also share Zonda’s career highlights and major wins?
  2. Well both La Crique and Legarto are nominated.
  3. This is from @Thomass original example. It was repeated 4 times and on the first occasion the horse clearly reacted by shifting its head to the side. I don't see how you could possible argue that this is accidental.
  4. I don't see anything ambiguous about it. I've never noticed an issue with that rule as far as application of the whip to the shoulder goes. May be post a pic of an example where that is being breached so we can see what you mean?
  5. Then you should read the rules before you claim they are a mess, though I agree that they are. No use forward of the horse’s shoulder or near its head.
  6. There's nothing wrong with it is there?
  7. I suspect this is what Entain see and have had enough of. NZTR have persisted for at least 2 decades while the industry shrinks. Sports meanwhile continue to invest in improving their product. https://bitofayarn.com https://bitofayarn.com
  8. And should get it in my view. Especially now that sports seems to be driving TAB revenue growth with racing making little contribution. Racing's claim to the lions share is really only historic, though Winnie is protecting it.
  9. Well racing already gets 80% of the revenue from sports betting doesn't it?
  10. Not sure I fully agree with that. Of the younger people I was around on Saturday, more were watching and betting on the cricket than the racing. That's a 5 day game. Also one of younger people's complaints that I've heard is that racing is boring because it only lasts a few minutes then you have to wait half an hour for the next one. I heard another similar complaint from a group of corporate professionals that had their Xmas function at the races on Friday, even though they were well entertained with food and drink in between races.
  11. Why would you spend money on irrigation or anything else for Woodville if it's to be closed down?
  12. I don't really know what you mean which is why I asked.
  13. How do you guys define an average punter then? Is that based on spend?
  14. Why is sports betting growing and not racing then?
  15. Yes that camera is well to the right of the finish line so favours the inside horse. If it was clear cut, it wouldn't have taken the judge 10 minutes to reach a decision to the satisfaction of the stewards. Only 4th was clear cut.
  16. The camera is a joke. What both the inside and outside cameras weren't working. As for the new timing system, I'm beginning to think that's a myth. No sign of it today, nor yesterday at Riccarton which still doesn't even have last 600 times available.
  17. They didn't really underwrite NZ racing in my view. They bought a business which could benefit NZ racing but if they don't want to come on board, Entain will make the best of the business they have which they are doing now by growing the sports revenue.
  18. They don't have the major say in that do they? In fact they seem to have had little influence on what the codes do.
  19. Yes there was. Provided you funded the clubs first and stakes second. Certainly not enough now since they have been trying to it the other way around.
  20. If a meeting has net revenue of say 100k and you spend 150k on stakes, 30k on meeting costs and zero on infrastructure, it doesn't matter if you have 20 tracks or 50. The long term result will be the same.
  21. It does raise the question (again) though. If that was the POCC takings based on 10% of racing and sports overseas spend, indicating maybe a $40m total spend, how on earth did they arrive at $200m when promoting the monopoly legislation.
  22. Yes. The 13m was the estimate for the 4 year life of the POCCs.
  23. Oops. That's a typo. Good catch. I have ~$4m.
