I would not be putting money into something that is self funding as per the Slot Races! What HRNZ is doing is throwing away money into the Slot Races when the races would have occurred without HRNZ chucking big money into them. To be fair I do not think that too many of the salaried employees currently employed actually are that knowledgeable with financial things! Too many very poor decisions is what has caused the issues that we currently have!
-
My point is that they would fun the slot races without the need to add industry $ that can not afford it! The amounts being added this year to races us hundreds of thousands if $. Great that there are these wealthier people putting in hesls to the industry that needs it. My point is that we need to retain the battler in the sport and this is certainly not going to help one iota.
-
So putting $200k into Slot races so the wealthier owners can race is money well spent fir the industry to survive? I say NO, but then we know who the ones that benefit from it don’t we? The thing is we need intelligent decisions to be made for harness racing to survive, and personally, I am not seeing too many of them at all, Anyway, we are entitled to an opinion and we will agree to disagree, but at the end of the day, the decisions being made will be what makes harness racing survive or not! I wouldn't be holding my breath relying on people that think chucking hundreds of thousands of industry funds into a few races for the wealthier owners to claim!

I didnt say Slot races were bad! What I said was that I did not see the need for HRNZ to be chucking in hundreds thousands into the Slot races, when they didnt need to or afford to!!! The big players will out the money up and race without the HRNZ money, which would be far better being applied to lower class meetings. Slot races are fine for the big players but really does it actually do anything to retain the participant's that are struggling financially? It is only a transfer of funds between the participants.

TAB, certainly was not saying that girls/ females can not drive ! quite the opposite really, just appreciating that we have the females in racing, otherwise there would be no Junior races in the North!
-
I want harness racing to survive in the North Island obviously. It is going to be very difficult to see how it is going to survive with the way things are up there! They need owners prepared to race horses and they need punters! Personally do not think it is that bright for HRNZ chucking in large amounts of money into Slot races?? The race stakes surely are large enough with the slot holders paying into the race stake as it is really just a transfer of money between the slot holders! I believe stupid decisions like this is not necessary and no advantage whatsoever for harness racing and this money could be used in a far more beneficial way!
-
We all know that there is a big shortage of Junior Drivers in the North Island. The North Island racing is pretty much on life support at the moment and is trying to hang in there and hopefully survive. Entain is chucking money at it as part of their agreement with the NZ TAB, for the granting of them controlling rights for 25 long years! Interesting that there is only 7 starters in the Junior’s race at Cambridge on Friday night, there are only 2 males and 5 females, so it is showing that without females involved in harness then things would be dire! Entain are pushing this “the future starts now” thing so if they can not attract more horses, more owners, more trainers and more punters, then the future is very bleak, I suggest that the TAB/ Entain start listening to the public before it all goes belly up! Who really believes that throwing the money into the NZCup, Slot races and age group racing is going to be the saviour?
-
Entain introduced things that just make no sense. This Racing and Sport Australia that they reckon have been trusted for 20+ years are very poor at providing accurate and informed comments! The Ozzies clearly have very low expectations and accept the crap that they have been dished up for over 20 years! Whoever is making the decisions for Entain needs to be making better decisions, they believe that chucking the promised $ at the stakes is all they need to do to satisfy us!
-
Overall we are very lucky in NZ with what Trackside offers! HOWEVER, it could be improved significantly if the ones that make the decisions only asked their Customers of their thoughts!!! Personally do not think that the TAB/Entain really give much consideration to customers opinions
-
Would also like the camera man to have a wide screen of the horses after the winning post rather than panning in on the winner! Would be more beneficial to see the whole field!
-
Good luck to them with that. Form is temporary as they say, they will never stop Brodie winning as long as the NZ TAB and harness racing is still going! Maybe i dont make as much as I once did but it is all good, and I am up for the challenge. Other ways of making far more passively, but the fact that they operate the way they do, makes me hang in there for longer!

What is incorrect?
-
You are correct, they have been totally mismanaged for years, and no they will not survive despite several trying to talk-it up. They will never have enough horses to run profitable meetings as the costs are too high and Aucklanders have other issues on their minds. Entain are chucking the money into Auckland as that is what they said they will do, so it is no worry to them. The Reidman even looks like he is heading to Canterbury as he can see the writing on wall in Auckland. Ray Green will finish up shortly and there will only be Stonewall racing abainst each other and very few others. The turnover for Auckland must be terrible as the racing they are offering is very mediocre!
-
It is great that the TAB/Entain bring out the harness odds for Sunday meetings a couple of days early!!! HOWEVER, you can not take them up at an agency or Pub TAB, only on account? Why do they do this? If the punter wants on why do they not allow it at betting agencies, if they put the fixed odds up? Think I know why, but just another way of restricting their turnover when they state they want increased turnover!

The second night of Friday Night Lights on the whole is going well and a good improvement to what we had on the Friday night, there are a few things that would make it better though! Seriously, does anyone actually enjoy the bloody DRONE, every race?????? For the life of me, I can not see why they bother with it, it is horrendous, show the damn race not something from the Moon!!!!

Nit sure about that? Corey Steele is the bloke that walks the greyhounds ? Whelans also was on Trackside and was into the greyhounds as well. who worked for Ray Green and Phil Williamson? -
Stu Campbell. Looks like he has given it away as he is not currently licensed and hasnt lined one up for nearly 10 years. There is no one really in Dunedin training now. The late Ali Malcomson used to train at Tomahawk Beach in Dunedin.

While the club could soon be out of debt that may not last long as it is committed to building a new training centre to replace Franklin Park. “The developer who is buying it has agreed to a two-year lease back to us so we have two years from November, all going well, to have a new training centre,” says MacKinnon. “We have looked very hard at three different places and the one that is most favoured at the moment is in Maramarua. “We also need to talk more to Harness Racing New Zealand about how much they can contribute to it because we don’t believe we should be the only club in the country who has to build a training centre to keep racing going up here. “Obviously we are looking forward to the money coming through as the interest we have been paying for a long time now is quite stifling.” The mega money stuff up aside, the ATC now faces a less important but still challenging problem of how to draw enough horses to race there almost every Friday next season. It will be aided by Cambridge having most of its meetings moved to Tuesdays but MacKinnon says for Alexandra Park to be able to fill fields it will look to programme more sprint and 2200m races. “We like holding 2700m races but we believe horses are more likely to back up the next week if they race in sprints or up to 2200m races so we will be programming more of those.” by Michael Guerin, for the NZ Herald What a total stuff up and they want to be continued to be bailed out with more millions to rebuild? Unfortunately you can not keep putting plasters on and they are toast! There will never be enough horses in Auckland to be able to run profitable race meetings and Entain throwing the money into their stakes just shows how poor Entains decision making is, but they have a plan! Who is it now that has no idea of finances that is running ATC currently?

You know Entain dont like to reward successful punters, Ranga! -
Great to see extra money going into stakes, but it is only the money that Entain said they would to get McAnulty to give Entain the TAB for 25 Years! Entain may appear to be the White Knight for racing but they are not! They have racing people sucked in at the moment with their media promotion but unfortunately it is not going to continue with the stakes as high as they are. They dont care that they are wasting money putting it into North Island racing, they will say that they tried and didnt work out! They only want control of the Sports wagering that is where they see their profits, not racing! They have it all planned out, these gambling agencies are ruthless!

Wouldnt think there would be any trainers left training in Dunedin. Waikouaiti on the beach like Amber Hoffman would be the closest to Dunedin. Yes Forbury closing was a shame for harness racing in the South. Provided some real good racing for many decades.
