  1. You are correct Mikey. The Auckland population is now dominated by people born overseas/ immigrants who you never see on course or very much wagering on machines! It is the same around NZ, Asian/Indian just are not into harness racing! They are into the faster paced quicker losing Casinos! This needs go change otherwise it is pointless quoting this stuff about the big population in Auckland, as it is now not an overly attractive place to live lol!
  2. Gamma, I do know how it works, but as I say the business plan they have adopted is extremely flawed! They need all punters for turnover! They place far too much reliance on yield, it all flows back into racing!
  3. Gamma, does seem a bit hard to believe some of these big bets that they say with just how risk averse they are to other punters. They restrict some punters bets to netting $200 or $300 and yet they try to suggest that they are taking these large bets from others?
  4. So the TAB is prepared to take a liability of $100k on one horse and yet stop other punters from being able to wager on other horses? Totally flawed business plan and is backfiring on them. Time the Committee came out with what they have been discussing or has it not met as yet??
  5. Form is temporary but class is permanent as they say, Chief! Thing is they may well think they are achieving what they desire by heavily restricting certain punters. Reality is that it is costing them turnover and they will never be able to stop us making some sort of a profit, so why dont they let us offload??
  6. Not looking at fields and can’t even watch replays at the moment, as over in Europe for many weeks. Most money to be made in the looser class racing in my opinion but then again everyone has there way of punting! Are we sure that the punter that gets preferential treatment on the Stonewall horses is actually Steve Stockman???
  7. Gamma, each to their own with how you punt! Brodie doesn’t punt on tight class racing for obvious reasons. I would be surprised if there are many restricted harness punters that are betting on tight class racing, but you never know? Lol Anyway always money to be made even if TAB try to shut you down.
  8. Na, not worth the effort, although they now have the $5k minimum payout fixed win! Never have and never will wager on shorties like that!
  9. Certainly an Entire last time I looked!
  10. No one is stealing them Paleface? Still required as not being gelded!
  11. Mikey, lol Entain/TAB treat everyone fairly! 😂 😂
  12. Brodie has a big gambling problem Chief! They won’t let him on for much. With the $5k minimum fixed win now change of tactics 😂
  13. TAB, chucking money at a losing cause is always going to end in tears HRNZ need to stop the folly that putting on races with big stakes is going to work! They race the wrong way around for a start, they have not got the interest in the harness racing for a variety of reasons. HRNZ in my humble opinion have not got the right people making the right decisions unfortunately. Anyone know what has happened to the Committee or was that just wind?
  14. Not so much of the “very old” thankyou!
  15. Chief, you know as well as I do that harness racing is not paying its way! All the Entain money is doing is giving a very false impression of the true state of play! Frankly it is a poor indictment on the once great industry and to be having the financial lifeline that was the Entain money, used the way it is just shows why the harness industry got it self in decline! Anyway We cant worry about the inevitable and just have to wait and see how long it can continue once the money has run out!
  16. Chief, they are blowing money left right and centre from stakes, bonuses, and other poorly thought out implementations! They are losing any opportunity to increase turnover and get new participants into harness racing. They restrict punters that win and lose by adopting amounts that are pathetically low. They put up odds as they think they should be at and then decide that no we don’t want punters wagering on them! It is biting them in the proverbial!
  17. They lose the promotion of racing by losing those that are the bigger punters. No one races a horse for the stake money as an investment. The returns are just not there nowadays that is why syndicates are increasing in numbers. Turnover increase and profit would be greater if they actually like Bookies should. Put up the odds. Take the wager and make the profit from the increased turnover. When they take a wager and slash the fixed odds all they are doing is restricting turnover greatly as they don’t get anyone wagering on that horse again in sufficient amounts. Hugely detrimental to the industry as serious punters are lost from punting and racing horses.
  18. Tote pools are just not worth the effort for any serious punter that wants to win! Industry is in serious trouble with the risk averse policy that the TAB Bookies have adopted. Just not going to work but then again it is all about toiled to them rather than turnover and profit. Unfortunately their policy has a bigger negative flow on for attracting any new owners and punters to harness racing. Gammalite keeps saying that it is wealthy men subsidising harness racing in several states in Oz. There is no one in NZ that is stupid enough to fund TAB shortfall so if they don’t change their policy then things will be dire.
  19. Without knowing the full details of the deal, It would appear that Entain will do quite nicely out of it! 900million is a drop in the bucket for a big gambling outfit and they were given a 25 years term which would be unheard of in any commercial business deal! Who is to say that once the 5 years is up they dont flog it off to another gambling agency for a massive profit as we are not privy to any real details. Still maintain that we wouldve been far better to have done a deal with someone other than a sports and gambling outfit as racing is not their thing.
  20. The deal with Entain shoudve been negotiated by people who knew what they were doing for the future success of racing in NZ! We do not know the full details of the deal but by going on what is currently happening you just could not have any faith that they had too many clues! The 900million couldve and shouldve been invested in assets that gave a good return year in and year out for racing to continue to be current and exist! Blowing it on wasteful spending is just repugnant and is being done by people on big salaries at the expense of the ones paying for their expertise! $900m invested at 10%, and that is easily achieveable would return the industry $90million each and every year less some tax and still have the $900m!! Just absolute lunacy what they are doing for this once great industry in NZ. Anyone know what has happened to the Committee?
  21. K all good for gallops then! Harness wont have enough the way they are going! Yes they are doing plenty wrong Chief, no business acumen coming out of HRNZ, All good if people think they are doing the right things to get harness through the next decade. Chief, would you be wanting them to be investing your hard earned for you? Not sure exactly how much of the $900m is going to harness but sure isnt being used wisely knowing that it js not a bottomless pit! Anyone know what has happened to the Committee?
  22. Chief, still not sure why they need this fund when Brad Steele stated that everything was going well with the harness industry, on Trackside a few weeks ago? Was this not the truth coming from Brad Steele? Personally can not understand how HRNZ the controlling body for harness racing in NZ is being allowed to stuff the industry with its financial mismanagement of the funds being received from Entain and the betting public? If anyone believes that what HRNZ is doing currently makes any sense, then Brodie says they have absolutely no business acumen! You can not run any business the way they are and expect to succeed, end of story! Anyone know where the Committee has got to?
  23. I dont get what $10m is going to be used for? Entain are chucking in 900m over 5 years so 90 times the $10m? Surely it would make more sense to actually treat the $900m with better respect and not run the industry into the ground in the first place? Strange way of thinking from those that are supposedly in charge?
  24. Entain bought the NZ TAB so they could get the profits from Gambling Online and Sports betting! They have no interest in racing in NZ at all. Maybe that is why Dean Shannon got the DCM? You may think they were here to help out racing in NZ, I wouldnt be betting on that at any odds and time will in my humble opinion will give us the answer. They started out ok but have gradually shown their colours! If they actually did care about racing they wouldve challenged HRNZ as to the way they were spending the dollars granted by Entain so far! Anyway time will certainly tell.
