Gamma, yes Ozzies have been buying NZ bred horses for decades as they know that NZ raced horses are far superior to their own. Yes the NZ trainers do a good job developing them and then they are sold to Oz to race against inferior horses in Oz and they are easier to place there. There are that many cases of our horses that are well past their best and go over to Oz and win heaps Yes we use the same stallions in both countries in a big way but why do the Ozzies want to buy our Bettors Delights etc. if the horses are just as good there? Yes there are plenty of Ozzie stars and just as well but tgink you will find if they are bred in Oz they will come from NZ families. Not putting down NZ trainers of those trotters at all Gamma, just saying that our horses generally past their best can clean up the best trotters Ozzy has. The first four home would not be winning any Group races in NZ if they were still here.

Just read on HRNZ site that Wee Man Trouble won a group one trot at Albion Park last night! Second was Credit Master, 3rd was Majestic Harry and 4th Doth Your Cap! Is it any wonder the Ozzies are still buying our horses as they can win big races with average horses from NZ! All four horses had some ability but certainly would not be that competitive in our bigger trot races here! Ozzie red horses are just so inferior to the Kiwi bred racehorses! Good on Luke Whittaker for driving his first Group One winner .

Galah, totally agree with you! it was a very poor effort from Katy Cox on Watch Me! Speaking from my wallets point of view but she did the same last start using all of her strength to hold it ! This week she put a pacifier on it to relax it but didn’t work! The horse has a ton of gate speed and she should have used it as the horse is far better than the field she raced today! Yes things happen in harness racing and easy from the grandstand! However if I was the owner of Watch Me I would be giving the horse to another trainer and use a different driver because it is not getting the best opportunity with the current arrangement and the punters are getting screwed!!!

New Zealanders have become easily accepting of BS! Foster is hopeless, far too many Waikato and Aucklanders in the team and not warranted. Forwards have no fear to other teams nowadays and were totally outplayed by the Irish! The Barretts are soft and shouldnt be in the starting side. Beaudan just kicks and hopes, worst first five we have had, Mounga is heaps better and Will Jordan should be at Full back! All Blacks are going to lose in South Africa and the old boys club needs to be rid of and Robertson coach! Too much ego at the top but they need to fall on their sword!

Craig Smith will improve the horse as it has some ability but bred to be a pacer and started its life as such I believe There have been quite a number of pacing breds trotting recently with limited success though. It is anyones right to train their own horses and bet enjoyment out of it and save huge training costs! However it is very rare for a harness horse that is trained by its owner and not getting results to all of a sudden start winning! It seems to only occur when they put the gorse into the hands of a successful trainer!

Reality is that as far as I am aware, it costs just as much to train a slow gorse as it does a fast one. So why people continue to want to shell out thousands of dollars a month to see their horse run down the track every start is bewildering! Lizzie Richter has shown she has speed but is a head case and has got everything now on her head to try and stop her being the njt case. Good to see her get a win in a very weak race for the owners. Craig Smith is a good young fellah who used to work initially for the Dunn’s at Woodend and then went to Auckland to train and drive. Been back in the south for a wee while now and seems to train horses that need improving, so good luck to him!

Blackie, to be fair you know as well as I do, the stake money earnt by Lizzie is a pittance of what it has cost to win that, and going forward very hard to see it winning another one! Good on it for finally winning one and getting around the track without galloping!

Yes, it wont be financially viable for tracks apart from Addinton to race solely harness! NZ TAB needs to be encouraging wagering by allowing punters to offload and be allowed to win $5k minimum on any wager! They also need to raise the Anti Money Laundering limit to $5K rather than the pathetic $1k, as money launderers are not laundering money $1k on a harness horse bet, unless you are part of the TRIADS!!!

Raging On race 3 at Addington tomorrow Sunday, $2.20 fixed to win?????? And someone has obviously thought it was worth it, as it has shortened into $1.85 lol! How it can go from Zero to Hero in a month is rather hard to fathom? Not too sure how much homework the NZ TAB Bookies do to set fixed odds? There are many horses racing at Adding tonight that are at ludicrously short odds, that even the poorest punter wouldnt be enticed to, you would think? OBSESSION for instance in the last race is at $2.20 to win?????? Why on earth is it that short? Yes many tipsters are tipping it out and it is trained by Amanda Telfer and their team goes very well! However on what it has shown in 2 trials at Rangiora since it came down from the North Island, surely you couldnt support it?? First trial was not that flash and its last one, it did win but basically beat non winners and didnt go very quick, so can not see how it could be $2.20? Not a strong field at all but there are one or two others in there that warrant your $! Thanks Harrison and Gammalite. So I personally believe that the trainers should not be using carts that the horse is not used to! Think it is less than average when the Owner and Punter are relying on the trainer to be professional and put a sulky on the horse that ensures that it doesnt hit anything. They must surely be well aware of the needs of the horse due to its action and not swap carts and hope that it will be ok! Surely this is a gear issue that warrants a fine just like other gear issues? What I do know is that it happens far to often!

So often you read in the Stewards report and elsewhere, that harness horses get fired up due to their legs hitting the wheels lr discs to the sulky! Does anyone know why this happens? Surely the horse doesnt have a change of stride length from race to race? Has the sulky been put on wrong or has the hopple length been altered? Very hard to understand what has happened and you would think the regular driver would be able to see somethi was wrong i. The warmup even if the horse was not at full stride??

Gamma, firstly whether you think $500 is a big bet depends on your income/ asset position! If you can not afford to wager $500 then you probably wont! As to punting amounts, I know that I will get enough collects to always be able to make money, so whether I offload $50 or $5k is irrelevant. I reiterate that I do not consider a bet of $500 @$1.75 to be worth announcing on Trackside! You are probably right in the loss of enjoyment thing due to wagering! I got pretty sour when the betting restrictions were initiated by the NZ TAB as I believe that all punters should be treated equally. You are totally correct in regards to having not answered any questions in your harness greats quizz. I knew quite a few of the answers but yeah I do not dwell too much on races of decades ago. Prefer to look to the future than dwell on the past. There are some good punting races tomorrow at Addington!

With respect Gamma, everyone is at different levels . Hard to recover from a $500 loss? You get back on the horse as they say. It is not hard to make money on harness racing, the hardest thing is getting on! I do not need to do it for financial reasons, It is the challenge!, If the NZ TAB allowed me on for more then maybe I would lose the interest of the challenge lol.
