  1. not in NZ old boy!! doesnt count... There is a small error in my stats above ..(23 wins by boys: 1 colt, 22 from geldings) Interesting though that the girls are outperforming the boys, and the older they get the better the girls get...
  2. a small bloodstock operation in NZ has these stats for 2018/2019 season 43 starts 12 wins, 6 x 2nds. 4 x 3rd, 2 x 4th 29% winners to starters Is this exceptional?

  5. wonder if anyone has ever done an analysis over, say, a fortnight or month, of The Shark's winning strike rate ('kill %-age!).. i bet it aint very high
  6. and who is The Shark?
  7. SCARFI is on a hat-trick and his two previous wins have been good enough to suggest he, too, will not give up without a fight while MARS BARS has had little go his way in the last two outings. Fair enough assessment, I guess ...except that both runners are mares.
  8. yes, a better run by GN ..and barryb called it Sat morn, naming him as a multi builder at very attractive odds. Beaten by a better horse on the day..Hello It's Me is a Grp 2 (Royal Stakes) winner who is capable of a Grp 1 here in the next year or so, an impressive and imposing mare ..should go well in the Spring, esp on rain-affected tracks.
  9. I think Funstar is a half to Youngstar

  11. and nary a mention on the NZTR website. Pathetic. Perfect opportunity to promote the dedication and skill level of our best jockeys.

  15. fair enough, thanks for the correction. Bernard and co will go, too!
  16. “I Shoulda Stood In Bed”—Joe Jacobs (1935) Joe Jacobs was the prototype of the fast talking cigar chomping fight manager. Joe Jacobs with Max Schmeling Sportswriters loved him as he was always quick with a memorable quote delivered in a staccato New York accent. As described by author David Margolick, Jacobs was “the quintessential Broadway guy, a Damon Runyon character from whom even Damon Runyon, then writing a sports column for the Hearst newspapers, could pick up some pointers.” As a “Broadway guy” Joe invariably slept late but one of the few times he broke with tradition was when he got out of a sickbed to attend the 1935 World Series between the Tigers and Cubs on a wet cold day in Detroit when the temperature was near freezing. When a reporter asked him about the experience he famously complained, “I shoulda stood in bed”, which is New Yorkese for “stayed in bed”. Shakespeare could not have said it any better. Mustelid Maximus could not have said it any better.
  17. CANT DISAGREE WITH THE SENTIMENT EXPRESSED BY D ELLIS HERE BUT ... the call for leadership resignation is curiously timed ...RITA kicks in within a fortnight, effectively scuttling leadership ..and although one J Allen has declared at meetings he is 'not going anywhere', his ongoing presence is untenable so he will be sidelined at enormous cost while RITA sorts out major reform including new personnel to run the show. J Allen wont care....he's a typical grey suit with a history of stuffing up govt agencies and moving on to the next trough. Wonder what his payout will be when they eventually send him off?
  18. you run a very good site, Chief...MM
