Top runs from the first 6 or 7 -cost me a dunkin donut well done Ashley!! SM is certainly one to follow over a trip through the next few months. As a complete aside...what pig of a track Te Rapa is these days, a shadow of its former great self. It'd almost be worth running the Foxbridge Plate 2 weeks later, in August ...at Ruakaka, where these good sprinters can at least get a fair go on decent ground!
-
you are on...unless the track is downgraded to heavy
-
bolter is right ...if she runs a place fresh against this lot shes in for a big 4yo season .. Santa Monica a better place bet esp if they stick near the fence

Does anyone know if the Stipes talk to all jockeys (incl and esp amateur ones) BEFORE each race, to remind them of their responsibilities. I agree that not enough is being done to demonstrate we want much more limited use of the whip, esp on horses out of contention.

Good luck to him..he'll need it ...but with his luck he'll prob fluke a Cox Plate winner!

Settle down Thomass, I see no reason why Grant Cooksley should be forced to talk publicly. A polite 'decline' is OK in my book. some people are very afraid of cameras, and being in the limelight. Even if he's not one of them, he has every right to say no.
-
oh dear..i fear you are relitigating a case you have already won .. you are no catchin my drift at all at all at all .. penalty for this is to stand around in a circle of lurv with the Management/ board of ARC and sing 3 x kumbaya
-
Now Thomass ... I recommend you adopt a more positive tone to this development here ...you've done well to get them to change 'da rules' ..so you should be giving credit where its due in a nice, kind, mature and positive manner (this will make them feel better about themselves and not get all antsy and stubborn and dig their toes in next time, see). As a way of helping you catch my drift, here's a suggested post for you to make. Cut and paste and post it if you like. "Hey guys and gals did you see the great Rule Change made by the ARC Board for the Derby. They've recognised the anomaly that stuffed up things this year and taken action. fan-bloody-tastic. Way to go, ARC. Well done." Catchin' my drift? ...or am I being obtuse? (Shawshank Redemption)

As a complete aside, if I were a jumps trainer I'd avoid that hurdle race at Arawa Park next year ..two years in row a fatality (Assign this year; Dontbreakmyheart the previous). Very sad, diff circumstances of course ... did anyone notice how small / low the brush hurdles were at Sandown last Saturday...the horses hardly have to jump 'em just skip through them...the upside is there's less chance of falling; the downside is they don't slow down. Decades ago a relative of mine won the Cup Hurdle at Flemington (3200m) on Cup Day ..winners time was less than 2 seconds slower than the Cup itself!. This profession is not for the faint-hearted.

what word rhymes with Rogie?

well my eyes must have been deceiving me ..I'll check it out.

and I thought you were such a kind, compassionate young Jess ..but you want to kill off the lovely Mustelids??? LOL What's new? I have two mates who are breeding from a handful of mares. and racing a few handy types (incl 1 I have a tiny part of ...) Love this awfully frustrating game and would be delighted to see my friends cop a Grp 1 or 2 in the next season. D:

admirably humble, leading by example, and not self-obsessed ..in fact, quite the opposite. "I have had so much support and I can't wait to see other stories of other women getting into the industry and doing amazing things."

I didn't hear Rogie's post-race i/v re Rok Cha, but wouldn't be surprised if he said it's a Slipper horse (or KM at least) and/or the next Savabeel. Love him or hate him, he is a legendary character who is not universally popular (!) but his achievements (and the yarns surrounding them) are exceptional. One story goes that he says to new clients ..look, you've got the money and I've got the experience...and a few months or years later says "now I've got the money and you've had the experience". Classic!

There is a lowly race meeting at a place called Forbes (NSW) on Monday. Town popn about 6,500. Their maiden 1000m is worth $38k...richer than any race run in NZ this weekend except the time-honoured Winter Cup at Riccarton. Meantime at Te Rapa, Hamilton local population over 100,000 they need Rogie to enter 6 horses to make up a barebones field of early 3yos and then they schedule the highest rating race (Open Hcp sprint) as race 3. Who is running this farce?

what a gracious, empathetic and wise person you are

Van Blanc had a big change of attitude once he got going in the better ground out wide. I had backed him in preference to his stablemate and I had given up before the turn, he was travellin' that bad! Funny old game.

or the owners

...and only in NZ would a failed former Minister of/for Racing resurface somewhere like ...on the Board of RITA. Unthinkable? Unlikely? Pray it doesn't happen.

Sam Weatherley has made an intriguing decision to ride in NZ again - I doubt that he'll be here for long, perhaps two seasons ...his stated reasons are for family reasons -ie 'homesick' and it takes a good deal of self-awareness for a young man with so much talent to choose NZ when he can earn much more overseas. In a year or two, he may have one or two NZ Premierships under his belt and the confidence/ambition /maturity that comes with experience/age. Having met Sam a few times at the races, I have been impressed by his 'people skills' at such a young age Good luck to him.

Not Chris Rutten...eight horses (two of which did not win a race)
