Brodie, Think you are alone on this one. Heard some stats on trackside today regarding jewels winners since it’s inception. 59% of races have been won by favs, yet 20% of favs have not finished in top 3 placing! If anyone had a horse that qualified, surely you would go. Been many horses that have paid a div in the jewels, draw works both ways, think it’s a great concept. So good luck Globe and others that have horses racing in the jewels, you all have a chance to take home some cash. For some, this is their nz cup.

This really annoys me, one of the reasons I used to clash with a certain poster. Poor Roger James, he is a bloody gentleman, yet here he is, getting bashed again. Yet, he can post this crap??? Barry, Dont think Hesi is out of line on this. You gotta remember, many have not had a voice for so long, mainly because they had different views to those ruling RC. So Hesi is a bit enthusiastic, so what, I think that’s what was needed, nobody is being nasty about anything, which is certainly a good thing. You only have to look at the harness section to see how things can run smoothly, without the agro. So keep it up Hesi, good competition be good for both sites. ?

So the main reason that Ashburton is losing it next year, is because staff have left the club, and they have doubts about the club organising next years event, over 1 year away?

Storm in a tea cup. Seriously, Aussie operators won’t be making a bundle of nz racing. Lets face it, for 30 odd years the tab screwed me, didn’t have another option. They dictated what odds I took, what bet types I could take, tab branch hours, how I withdrew, how I deposit, what I could bet on, what live sports events before suspending again, what hours I could bet etc etc. They had a monopoly!! Did they run promos for their regular punters 5 years ago? NO. Did they try to compete 5 years ago. NO. But they run them now , after losing a heap of punters, trying to get them back. Theres an old saying, You made your bed, you lie in it!

All, Real good vibe here on the harness section. Nearly have as many posts as the gallops section! Just wondering if anyone is keen to have a syndicate or something going for jewels day for a bit of fun? I’m keen for ideas, maybe $20 or $50 ea, I don’t mind. Maybe each have a bet on their selected/ drawn race?? Let us know who’s keen, or who has ideas. Be good if someone could run it, might take me a few weeks to get over comp im running now ?

May give runners a better chance Globe? Many Jewel races turn out to be pretty predictable

Do agree in parts with everyone on this, Have always loved going to Ashburton, long enough to get out of ChCh, but not too long to get back. We all love mile racing, mention mile racing and we get a buzz. I love supporting the other tracks, and I hope grass tracks, and others stick around for many years. But, if they raced at Addington 1950m or 2000m, it may attract better turnover? Not sure, as I say. , I’m sitting on fence

Can see 2 sides, I bet Ashburton club really pissed off. I quite liked a trip out every 2nd year. But really, club didn’t have the facilities to cater for everyone. Sure, put up a marque, but in the middle of winter, not the best option. I found Ashburton got a little greedy with their marque food /drink deals. Started off great value, then increased bigtime. Hope Addington cater for all. Wonder if Cambridge will retain Jewels.

Aussie probably don’t see it like that.N Z TAB take more money from Aus racing, dogs, harness & sport, than they do on nz products. In a way, they should feel lucky they have strong aus products to bet on.

Think I heard Richard Brosnan will front on a harness segment soon. He deserves it

Van Der Looy had great fillies, was it Smarty Pants? Pretty sure he was old back then, so likely not here now.

Amazing, wonder if someone left on sprinklers? I would say that some sort of blockage , with autumn leaves etc caused issue. Talked to a couple of punters, they also were surprised. Looks like winning post drain blocked, should have looked earlier on, surely could have pumped it out.
