John Vincent also trained the very good mare Ansett. She was very unlucky to be the same year as Hilarious Guest which dominated the fillies races that year, Rain Girl another fine horse, Ansett finished 2nd or 3rd to them many times that season. Spangled Lord galloped from barrier 1 on show day one year, swept to lead and held off Nostradamus. I was pretty happy, paid double figures and collected more on the double when Braedoon won the last. John always wanted to train Stormymorn whose owner Peter lived across the road, he did get the chance to train him in his last couple of starts but well past his best. His last start at Timaru over 3200m was going to be his best chance, but they ran along in front and the old boy just battled. Noble Advice was a trotter that John got up and running, won his first race at big odds before going to another trainer. Also trained Im a Timer to win, paid big odds too. I have talked to the family about those golden years in the early 80s, where they did very well especially on the grass tracks, sadly after this time the wins very much dried up. Form drop off happened when they moved from the Marshlands area, think they moved several times to Ashburton areas, Rangiora areas to where they are now. Where he initially trained was a market garden area, it seems many that trained in that area stated the same, grass and ground was top notch.

Why do they still have the Kurow Cup anymore, looking at that rubbish field today is a disgrace to be called the Kurow Cup. I went in the early 80s, 2 good horses Portfolio & Stortford lodge deadheated on the grass I think back then. Nothing today in that class today, that’s for sure

I used to love cup day with around 6 other mates. Not been now for around 6 years. Got sick of nowhere to sit, queuing for ages only to be told they can only serve you 2 beers, overpriced average grub, gone is the trusty grandstand. Sadly, the day is not for the average harness enthusiast, it’s for those that are prepared to spend $500 + for a seated meal table, or those that get dressed up with hooters hanging at trying to look cool….avoid this area if you are interested in the racing.

Still no luck, 4 back inner still waiting for gap🥴. I know what will happen, will get good draw, top driver will get on, wins and will pay $1-50😆. It’s a hard game

Yes, some horses do grow a leg in Aus, but this one is a surprise
-
I watch those murder episodes on 71 too, or 18. Mrs reckons I’m getting a little into them😆😆, especially When Wife’s Go Missing🤭. Sometimes watch the league, maybe a few Aus harness racing if good fields or if top NZrs starting, but as you say Sat pretty average

Thanks, we always need luck. Horse hasn’t had much luck since a very good 2nd to the highly rated BRI Express. Well done on your first treble leg

UPDATE: Cullen goes alone! The Telfers and Cullen parted company?

What happened? Thought they were set with purdons? -
Drawn 1 the 2nd line tonight gonna offload at $10 F/Os. Nathan off and Fergus hops on, think it will win. Get on, thank me later.

Ted was loyal to Paul Young, average driver at best
-
What a shame that many horses mentioned tested positive to something
-
My Copy, Once this horse has a bit of luck it will win one. Had some poor drives recently, and Nathan once again made a poor choice to be held up.

Ha, not sure about that. Didnt see race but I see it won, pity I halved my bet from last time but happy with result👍

Horse out tomorrow at Mornington race 1… might have a crack

Do agree, Betfair did go backwards

Got an email from Betfair saying they could no longer withdraw money back to my card? Seems strange as they will let me deposit with any card? Gave me normal BS about how I can withdraw to account, add swift code & other codes, address blah blah blah. They have all this updated info, sent them couple of emails which nobody replied to…. Don’t use account too much so closed it. Only use Sportsbet & tab, so no great loss, as use the promos. Betfair have not offered promos for years, but they have lost a customer after 10 yrs. What have other Betfair NZ customers done, stuck with the ship?

What was the horse or race etc that got you started?

Dad was a $2 punter, as others have said, radio used to boom while he was working away in his large garden. Mum used to follow Harry White, so would back him in the Melbourne spring races, won a few cups from memory, good odds. Afta school, was part of a group of 6 that loved the racing, still see most of them nearly 40yrs later. Don’t bother much with NZ gallops, I hate it when horses drop out half way thru race, never see that with Aussie racing, which I never miss on a Sat arvo. Still follow harness on a Thurs / Fri nite, but sometimes rather bet on the league -
The atmosphere at Addington in the 80s really got me and a few mates hooked. Never missed a meeting, one of us had to get there early to get our spot in the bar public area, think it was under lordship plaque, or similar, bar close to where you could buy pies, ate plenty of them🤭. Was always a big thing when race times were bettered, the time Basil Dean posted quick time for 2600, which I think was even a record for pacers also. Also remember Malaz & Freightman dead heating once in record time, fav Royden Glen 3rd, or who can forget desperate comments real quick time, was it 3.09 or something? Reon always got the crowd buzzing once records broken, nowadays nobody makes a big deal.

Haha, Funny you mention Press Play, it was my only bet today. Never got close from draw on a rain affected track today, will still be in my Black Book, think it will win one soon. I assume the owners have a bit to say on who drives, which may be the reason Blair got drives. The girl drives very well

Wow, just seen a reply of Shards Fury!!!

Old Stormy a good old plodder, time was real slow in this race. Great drive thou. Had good success in Australia too, outstayed the locals, think Jim O’Sullivan trained it when racing in Aus. Was lucky really, Scotch Tar and a few others were just finishing their careers, and Sir Castleton & Basil Dean just about to hit the headlines. Still, Stormy a good horse who hardly ever galloped.

Yes, I suppose different time zones might allow NZ codes to be bet on. I am just struggling with the GEO Fencing but, stop me betting in Aus on Aussie racing, yet at the same time they will be welcoming overseas punters to bet with them, of course on Aussie racing??? This won’t go ahead, anyone with common sense knows this will be a total stuff up
-
Interesting. So we would have different accounts? Not allowing NZers to bet overseas is my big issue. On one hand they want to stop it happening, yet they are looking for overseas punters to bet with Entain /Tab? I just don’t see how on one hand they want the monopoly, yet want to steal other countries punters?
