Brodie
Who wouldve thought that Michael House’s stable would consist of half the field of 12 runners at an Ashburton meeting? Yes Michael lines up 6 of the 12 runners in race 5 at Ashburton on Sunday in a 43-50 pace. Not too bad for someone that is dabbling in gallopers as well! Most are just battlers but giving owners a bit of a buzz and assisting Ashburton with no.s Doubt there be any team driving, all out for themselves. Chief Stipe
Yes good on him. Nice to see a 10 and 9 yr still going round. The industry loses too many horses too early. Also good to see most are on a two day back up. Gives a good recent disclosed form guide for punters.

Who wouldve thought the 13 year old Take After Me would ever be the favourite nowadays in a trot in Canterbury? Ozzie fields are packed with horses over 8 years old! I recall not long ago you were highly critical of a few aged geldings going round and round for long suffering owners. Is race 5 at Ashburton tomorrow a claimers race? Certainly not Chief, Don’t believe I have been critical about aged horses still racing, providing they are competitive snd earning money! I certainly do not support aged horses racing, if they are not competitive and clearly showing that they have had enough! Race 5 could be made a Claimer, i believe it would bring s bit more interest to harness racing if they were brought back in! Why dont Addington put the feelers out again to see if it would work? Nothing ventured nothing gained as they say!

That sort of self-handicapping would certainly be an improvement on the current system so far as creating competitive and attractive wagering races is concerned.
the galah
I think the most interesting horse racing tomorrow is the first starter Dark ghana in race 1. Trained by chris morrison. Chris morrison of course ,well known for the saddlery business he had run for years until he recently sold it. I remember speaking to him a couple of years ago and him saying he was looking forward to retiring and also working a nice trotter that he rated and could have a bit of fun with. Dark ghana is from a family that he has loyally bred from for the last 30 years and which he has raced and trained the progeny from. Dark ghana is a half brother to random spur who placed a few times from 65 starts and random jude who won 3 from 39. i see its favorite which may be expecting a lot from any trotter having its first start in a full field, but he has trialed up well and the locals will be cheering it on for sure. Newmarket
Goodness, Mickey Mouse half the field? Won’t be betting on race, anyone excited on that race may as well use a pokie machine as well..

John and Robert Dunn have half the field and are sure to go very very close to running the Trifecta in the time honoured Sapling Stakes. the Purdon horse the only spoiler to his trifecta hopes it would seem. The 'chocolate' horse looks a real beautie. he'll get the choc's for sure.

A very professional effort from a first starter. ran up to its impressive trial form and will no doubt learn a lot form that as well. Only problem is,having won first up it is unfairly treated by the handicapping system and if it had lined up today as a 1 win,1 start horse it would be running against the likes of The bloss,Boyz invasion and Missalysa.

Similar handicapping issues in NZ Thoroughbred Racing. No administrator seems to be able to connect the dots or if they do have the motivation to do anything about it. For the life of me I can't see who it benefits.

Very well done to trainer Regan Todd and driver Ferguson put in a beauty to win the Sapling Stakes with 'Marketplace'. mowed down the 'chocolate one' no worries at all. 🙄 As for the 'House' team they did get a Trifecta in race 5 afterall. At the wrong end . the Last 3 home in the race 😆. But also the race winner too along with that tail end trifecta. so think they'll be happy with that. Dunn's may have missed the Sapling stakes Trifecta , but were back in business with the TRIFECTA in the 3 yearold race in Race 8. only paid $31 though. But aren't those 3 horses going like good things at the moment ? ' Harrison John-Miki'sCourage-Hadron Collider' all going great guns lately.
