Operation Inca spreads north

Posted by Garrick Knight | Dec 7, 2018 | Harness, News

Detectives have been spotted interviewing standardbred industry participants in Auckland and Pukekohe in the past 24 hours as Operation Inca continues.
At least six people working in Pukekohe were interviewed by Police on Thursday afternoon after they turned up announced at stables.
The Informant understands an industry employee that is not a stable worker was being interviewed in downtown Auckland this morning by detectives.
Police issued a statement relating to their latest operations and said a race in May was at the centre of the enquiries and charged were possible.
“In conjunction with investigators from the RIU, detectives from the National Organised Crime Group have this week been conducting further enquiries in the Auckland region.
“A number of people have been interviewed as part of this week’s enquiries, and betting anomalies have been identified in at least one race in May 2018.
“The RIU is considering charges relating to the breach of rules around driver betting in relation to these anomalies.
“Further arrests and charges by Police are also possible.”

The wider this goes the less credible it seems.  The RIU can't read a race what chance have the plods?

Surely a more accurate comment is the wider this goes the less credible those involved appear. No protected species when it comes to  the police

A very specialised form of fraud.  One of the other things that doesn't make sense is the amount of money in our pools wouldn't warrant fixing anything.

The  proven race fixing in Australia  did not involve large pools.  Besides if you look at say the johnny white race there were dividends of $6553 quaddie,$4501 first 4 ,a $890 treble and place 6 $410..  If you knew the hot favourite was not trying then you could have made plenty.

This would not even get to court 20 years ago, but we all leave footprints nowadays.

Emails, phone calls, texts, cell phone towers, voice anaylisis, bank accounts, nz tab & overseas account details all make for some guilty people. As i have said all along, this is huge

TEAM DRIVING IS RACING FIXING SO WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO LOOK INTO THAT????

Giving stablemate the lead is not race fixing.

Giving stablemate the lead is race fixing, when you tell others what will happen in race, and betting trends back that up.

If betting trends back that up then that is there for all punters to see.  What's the advantage?

So driver A gives driver B the lead.  Which gives A the trail.  I thought that was a good posi to be in?  Now B gets taken on by C and has to reluctantly hand up.  Obviously C wasn't in on the deal.  Nor were the other 12 drivers in the field.

These prosecutions are a mine field.  I'm waiting for one of the accused to do a plea bargin.

In the races so far identified where was the "hot favourite" not trying?

Well look how hard it is to prove match fixing in Cricket.  If they are found innocent no doubt there will be enough for some to continue to say they were guilty.

It is obvious that the RIU are test casing this.  I wish they would get on with some of the easier tasks that they seem to fail with across all codes.
