Have people come down from that high octane 6 race programme yet? I'm just starting to settle now , but may watch some replays or get some much needed analysis of the event by the TS crew ASAP.

Nah . Twas excellent. NZ needs a meeting like that every month (less the blasted rain would be good) .

As they have in Aus a feature race day each month somewhere to keep everyone 'motivated' .

For how long though

They'll be fine TB , maybe you didn't get to hear Winston tell everyone how the industry will be run in the not too distant future when making his opening address at Karaka today , everyone is to come along kicking and screaming in the same direction and if you don't they'll just steal your assets (for the betterment of the industry of course) , future is looking very bright indeed!

I'm trying to wrap my head around BGP. Firstly the punting selections seemed to have no research. Is there an admin % cut taken out of the BGP pool?

Many web sites get viewers registrations just for curiosity purposes. That does not mean they are active members. Actual active members on a say weekly basis would be very small.

The TAB getting too involved with BGP probably not a good idea. Most people don't like to be thought of as fodder.

Perhaps some new thinking is required for BGP direction.

I'm sure they all do it for free or for the good of the industry.

We've been told how good they are for the industry for years by those in charge and trackside , so we should trust them and believe that they are great for the industry!

They are just having a tough run , but if they double up they'll recoup their losses back somewhere.

As long as we remember we are not Australia, and we learn from the good bits as well as the bad bits.

I still think programming is one of the problems that needs an overhaul for everyone's benefit.

When all said and done common sense is the lacking ingredient.

Great post.

Why does everyone complain about the programming , its only meant for the few they care about anyway.

Those complaining , guess what they don't care you are only there to make up the numbers.

Thing is, horses have been headed across the ditch for some years now.  But it's not all about stakes, they have never been better thanks to Entain yet nothing has changed wrt programming really, nor has the overall sustainability situation been addressed. Despite the KM and Champions Days horses are still departing.

None so blind....as the saying goes.

I couldn't agree more, but they don't want you to see how it works underneath KM, Champions Day and a few other meetings. Their entire focus has clearly never been the entire industry , if it was they'd do things a lot more differently.

Their focus is entirely on the mains days and the top end , the sales etc and this is why their involvement will not work , its merely a shot in the arm for a period of time with the same fan club singing their praises i.e. the big studs ($$) , the city clubs who benefit from all of this and a token amount of the chosen ones in the training ranks. The foundations have not changed or been improved upon and with the up coming asset theft they are going be much more shaky than ever before !

Classic example this week. Those were bloody tough races to win at Riccarton on Saturday, as you know Pam. This Thursday no NZ galloping meeting, which seems bizarre to me. There really should be an $18,500 Canty galloping meeting this Thurs, obviously at Timaru or Ashburton, because there is nowhere else. Horses have to be given the opportunity to race at a level where they can be competitive. Or else why should connections bother.

I know some people would argue those horses should probably be retired, but I don't agree with that attitude.

In Australia they often start out with country racing and build up to the big city racing.

At the same time we had that rubbish meeting at Wanganui last weekend for big stakes and 5 of the 8 races had only two dividends. It is blatantly obvious to anyone who cares to look that our programming is not fit for purpose.,

They are throwing $$ at the show pieces of the sport, with scant regard for anything else. It's been done before and its happening again we will get the same outcome as before but on a larger scale this time.

Nothing has been fixed and all they really care about now is Ellerslie for the show pieces , nothing else really matters. They are overdoing the icing on the cake without worrying about the cake itself.

How is your approach going to make a difference?  That is the approach where you bag everyone and everything?

Can you tell us what you support in the industry or ever have supported?  Or even liked?

Certainly @Chief Stipe if you can tell me how the current approach is sustainable?

I'm asking what YOU support.  From what I can see you are in the same camp as the likes of @Joe Bloggs and @nomates - underachievers in racing who just knock everything.

From what I've seen those affected the most don't seem motivated to stand up and seek change in the areas where they have the most influence.

Where is this asset theft going to occur?  We haven't seen one example since the legislation to enable asset takeover was passed.
