Counter, what I was alluding to was that the horse maybe being bought up to midfield and wait, and (he does look capable of sprinting twice in a race) not trying to loop the whole field from way back and get caught with having to run a 53 half to get near them( which he did on his ear)mind you. Frankly with rhis much raw speed and ability to cover the ground he would take a lot of flatteneng.Agree with Galah though, poor placement obviously but no damage down .

You're off your head. The horse obliterated the NZ record by three seconds and ran third.

The time you posted is an automated time based on the winner's time and U May Cullect's handicap.
If you watch the video (link below) and time from when the 2400m start point goes out of camera shot, to the time UMC hits the line, it is 2.51.7.

And using sound judgement at the start you can see he was probably at least half a second behind the camera cutting off the start point. As well as that, a trusted clocker watching on course got him in 2.51.1.

It was a mighty, mighty run and to criticise Kirstin in any capacity is absolutely absurd.

Fair enough but then you are comparing with the NZ record for a mobile start not a stand.

I don't think you could expect much more from driver or horse first up in that race and he doesn't need to be going to Addington to race yet so the options for starts would be very limited.

Unlike in his first prep where he was out to win (which admittedly was not too difficult) he has now a bigger target in mind so will race accordingly. No point blowing him out with his health record.

She should stay on the horse for the Cup as it is her dream to be part of this too.

Hey dont get defensive. I am the last one to "criticize " the horse. He is something else., and I ve been watching Harness for near on 60yrs .Whether he ran a world/nz record or not, is not the point if you read back far enough.

He should have been closer when making his run,(providing they wanted him to win) and if you think that is a criticism of the driver then it is.

Running 2.51.1 as you stated and still running 3rd would shout from the rooftops "Geeze he must have come from a long way back".

As good as he looks , do that in a NZ Cup and you are toast.

will it run the 3200m out??? as they will run first mile in two minutes and last mile in say 1.54 so will not want to get so far back in the running with Purdon horses will just attack attack you all the way

No chance UMC would get that far back in the Cup Hunter mate (excluding bad luck or breaking). Good thing is he won't be off a handicap.

If UMC gets a smidgen of luck or even a lot of luck and lands the trail for the last lap/mile, he will give the field a decent shake. Exciting times as he is still learning the game. Just fingers crossed his legs hold up!

Don’t care who wins the Cup as long as it is not Purdon/Rasmussen stable.

Time they let some other stable win it as it is an absolute borefest listening to the dribble before and after the cup!

Hope

the supporting races aren’t won by them either

Well it will all start again in the new Brighton cup on Friday
