Joe Bloggs
Another of Gus's anecdotes, ''The only time I want to see a vet in here is to sign a death certificate'...he hated vets with a passion, emotional blackmailers he called them........gotta love that.

Huey
Did Sword of State show yesterday just how weak this years Karaka millions really was?

All comparative. How many weeks since the Karaka Millions? Any follower of the sport knew that the two best two year olds were ineligible for the K Millions. The other a filly isn't too bad either. Perhaps he had a longer break than the Sword. Of course Black Type is of little use to him.

I don't think the owners of Brazen Beau are particularly worried and as for the Dam - well a 2nd placing in the Grp2 Waikato Stud Slipper will still look OK on the catalogue page. I'm not sure if he had a brief let up after the Karaka but he is a laid back sort of horse that apparently likes his tucker so I'd imagine it will take longer to get him race fit as he gets older. Sword of State is owned by a Stallion Making Syndicate, is by Snitzel and cost $600k. I'd imagine there is some incentive to put the pressure on him. What I would love to know is where the impressive unnamed Super Easy Richard Collett trained horse that beat OTB at Avondale Trials in December is. Third horse that day has also won, very strong trail, I'm thinking maybe sold after that trial ?
Huey
4 noms (yes I'm sure there will be more put in) for a G1 2yo at Ellerslie and some people thinking the sport is being run well FFS!

What trap? I dont think it is a 2yr old problem but a reflection of where the industry in NZ is at. That said there are many Group races in OZ that from time to time have very small fields. Yep a disgrace Huey. The obsession with the Karaka Million has helped cannibalised the back end of the 2yr old season (plus many other reasons) . Now should be when 2yr olds are peaking (performance and number of runners). 2

Did you not notice that the winner of the Karaka Million is one of the nominations for the Sistema? 2 out of 4 of the noms ran in the KMillion. The other two weren't even eligible for the KMillion. Chief Stipe
The Bonecrusher Stakes doesn't have huge nominations either. A couple of weeks ago the Grp 1 at Otaki was poor.

Chief you think 2 out the 4 is a good result? What’s happened to the rest of the Karaka million field and all the horses pushed to try and make the millions race? Only 2 around now is case in point.
