Did they not bother to advertise that a big race day was on at Trentham today . I know it's early , but that crowd is pitiful . 2 G1's and the undercard is pretty bloody good , so what is wrong ?

And the track looks grand too.

What a shame

Andrew Calder has just said the inside is a little off , and i thought that Lisa Allpress was a little careful with what she said after the first .

Had a look and on NZTR they applied 12mls on Mon, Tues, Wed and Thurs .

They do appear to be marking it a little , but for all that i think it appears to be reasonably fair across the track .

Loving the racing so far .

The only thing worse than the crowd at Trentham is the field for the Levin Classic.

Not the greatest but hasn't been the strongest race for many seasons , but for all that the undercard is great , good sized fields and even betting .

The non racing public don't know the quality of the races so don't know why crowd so poor .

It's pretty simple in NZ, doesn't matter who is running, you have to have a party if you are going to get  a crowd. Most of NZ have no idea what they are looking at.

Its kind of sad when the personnel that run NZ racing don't realise that you don't built crowds and support for the sport on days like this, its the smaller community type days that do that.

We're going to cop some sort of storm here on the Goldie for the MM day, it's 33 and the clouds are forming.......huge crowd even allowing for the semi-lockdown.

JUst watched the 2yo race, I see what you mean. There really is no better place for racing than Aus.

It will be interesting to see the size of crowd at Te Rapa on Wednesday. 11 races and almost 200 horses entered. That's the equivalent of a couple holiday crowd meetings that have been sacrificed. It also means the direction racing is headed. All downhill.

If just half the owners attended it would make a respectable crowd.

Virtually what I have put in the joint Coast Clubs submission re next year's calendar(in requesting an extra day)

'Further to this the Clubs should not need to remind the Dates Committee/NZTR of the attractiveness of the product the West Coast Clubs provide - NZTR will have noted the visual impact of the well attended racecourses in the district of the last week or so and that impact contrasts to the comparatively sparse attendances at major(and much better funded) meetings in recent days.  In order that racing regain its 'mojo' of prosperity and become 'must attend' events on the public's social calendars there is nothing like the sight of full carparks and relaxing and enthusiastic patrons to encourage attendance.  There have been several of these events in the past few weeks including Kurow, Greymouth, Reefton and Kumara and the Clubs of the West Coast are extremely confident they can provide another good day crowd wise if the Dates Committee and NZTR will allow an extra day.

The visual effect of well attended racecourses(and the potential industry benefit thereof) should not be underestimated.'

They will ignore it because they have no empathy for what is happening in the game but if there was ever a case to say those big money days are a waste of money the past weekend is it

People flock to Blackpool for a reason, they have done so for 100 years, same as the coast, a blow-in from Oz wouldn't know that, but he should. I believe he's been to Warrnambool, or he should have, if so he should empathise. The resident Kiwi's have no excuse, the revenue's there, the enthusiasm is there, the passion is there, the crowds are there, but the brains trust are bereft of, well, brains......#letsallheadtoellerslie.

Anniversary day next Monday,nothing.

Auckland the following week.maybe somewhere they can sort out the dates better for everyones benefit

Nope , they have been getting advice from most of the realists in the industry for years and ignoring it, this will be no different. It would be ok if those making the decisions could back it up with more than just power trips and hunches , but they can't.

Can anyone name one thing they have done to improve the fluidity of the calendar?
