Addington last night had its first race start just after 4 pm.

Does anyone know why they started so early?

You would think that it would be very hard for most people to get out there if they had been working?

Admittedly there is very few staff employed nowadays but surely turnover would not be that flash?

I was surprised by the early start but I don't think it would make much difference to turnover or attendance. Let's face it, this was a b-grade meeting with some poor fields. I watched most races but didn't bet. Friday has better fields.

It seems to me ,that midweek meetings seem to be finished by 9 ish these days, maybe the TAB want them finished early,it may be about economics, who would know.

Mostly its an acknowledgement that fewer and fewer people can be bothered going to the races...trots or gallops. Apart from a few days/nights, easier to stay home and watch trackside. Unfortunate but true. And the t.a.b. know this. As a matter of fact why bother having 'night trots' at all? Really, especially if the harness meeting doesn't clash with a gallop meeting, why have them at night? Would trainers etc be just as happy to be at home instead of at work..especially in the winter. Why the hell would they persist in having trot meetings that go until 10.30-11pm?

Fair comment ,most of those Wednesday meetings like yesty  finish early, usually West Australia have races that finish about 9' and they are popular, after that bugger all.

As I stated earlier some of these meetings might be overkill,if you look at it another way they ain't much different to the races behind closed doors, the public simply don't go,it's understandable really.

I don't own a television. I watch the races on the TAB website on my MacBook Pro, it suits me.

used to be 6.05 back in the day

They often had a non-tote at 5.30. Watch that and a couple of jugs before the first... those were the days.

Seems like you guys are on the money, 4 seems to be the time people start arriving at clubs and pubs these day's,  well people in your age group anyway and that is exactly the target market the club are after,  well heeled sleeper moguls.

Probably not a helluva lot better but surely it is very hard for alot of  people who perhaps own horses to bet out there by 4.0pm especially with the traffic?

Easier to get there at 4 than 5, as for crowd size I'd say about the same as a good night at forbury

Forbury now or when it is closed down?

Unfortunately for racing, the crowds that used to go have gradually faded away!

Several reasons for this Unhinged!
