I reckon 24 hours is totally acceptable,

You wouldn't have thought so the way the business sector is kicking off , apparently that one extra day is going to bust their yearly profit margin .

I'm no royalist , i'm Scottish , i've got more reason than most to have animosity towards the English , and i have , but have some fucken respect .

After that bring on Scottish independence .

Charles and the Ginger will bring the Monarchy down

Nup.  William and Kate have it all sorted.  Charlie will be a figurehead.  Harry knows now what side his bread is buttered on and so does his missus.  For the latter it only took a few months off the tit to see what was being missed out on.

As for OZ being a Republic - yeah na.  A colony built on the foundations of bread thieves couldn't manage themselves.  You only have to look at the mess and corruption in the State Governments.

NZ becoming a Republic?  Not while there aren't any checks and balances in place.  The last 3 years have been bad enough with Princess Cindy let alone giving her ilk more power.  I'd suggest we reversed a few decisions from the past e.g. once again elevate the Privy Council to the highest court in NZ.  I'd love to see a challenge to the RIB make it to that court!

Just another cost thrown at businesses , for some the cost will be in the tens of thousands. A day off, a day in lieu, loss of productivity etc etc etc.

The current crowd runnning the country are much like the personnel at NZTR , they believe their decisions as much as they appear nice to have on the surface and well intentioned have no cost associated with them and the warm fuzzies they provide are more than worth it, that as most will know couldn't be further from the truth.

It came to my attention that it's on South Canterbury anniversary day,( the one off holiday) Why not a Raceday at Washdyke ?  use to be Orari, a lot of those one day  holidays,  lots have not much to do ,on a slightly different tangent, I dont even think there is a gallop meeting on labour day, most of the public holidays  seem to be becoming non events ,racing wise.

To give them some credit NZTR does contribute to tote wages on a public holiday, but it doesn't seem to encourage many clubs to give it a go on those days, which is sad really. A lot of public holiday meetings have disappeared over the years.

"Where a Club races on either a public holiday or observed public holiday NZTR will pay 33% of the amount paid to tote staff hired for the day up to a maximum of $5,500."

Why would they want to race on a public holiday , when it's the same select clubs that are already holding race meetings being asked if they want to race.

Ah, therein lays the answer, if you had on-course bookies, satchel swingers, problem solved........and atmosphere and crowds return, better than a bloody Casino, bookies betting on Oz racing as well........try it, you just might like it.....wink wink.
