  1. Certainly has been some boom or bust trotters over the years, I remember Carl Middleton had one going back a while, could break giving big starts, what a loss he was to the trotting game in all forms, cant remember the horses name though, seems to be plenty of them will the ability but putting it together another issue, some of the maiden trot races, you'll seem more breakers than Brighton beach, imagine the frustration for the owners and trainers, they have to cart them home as well, the punter get the better deal on that score. Just a sore pocket
  2. Certainly it can be frustrating, remember think the same when taking moa majito on the coast, 12 odd starts and never trotted a trip without a gallop, in fairness hadn't followed him punting wise throughout his career, but it only takes one start to put things together, but just depends how long it takes for that start to come along, and how deep your pockets are, the odds must be decent to long for me, but as we know trotters are notoriously hard to follow.
  3. Hope the flamboyant salute was after the winning post,😄
  4. Crickey walt, gave him up after two starts, one must keep the faith, and at least give him few more chances, and ya might get your coin back, always risky on trotters early in their career also, or as the song goes, he was all shook up.
  5. Still had to get past them all, and just about off the track, as well, great effort and what you'd call a patient drive.
  6. Ah the old Clayton's, a drink when your not having a drink, remember the old TV ad.
  7. Be interesting to see what ones 2.5% payout would end up, given all other fees travel ect, mind you it's all about the passion and joy of winning races.

Everything on the rise, well just about everything, insurance council rates, regional rates, power mine just gone up 27$ per month, but one must battle on regardless, thanks for your kind offer, will get there at some stage, don't leave home very often these days.

Yes never anywhere as safe as houses so to speak, on the flat flooding on the hills landslides one can never win, the insurance just bumps up another few click every year, no matter if you claim of not, glad things ok, and hope rains have eased, keep me eyes peeled next time I'm there, not very often I must say, will check the big races tonight some nice fields an some not do nice draws for some, interesting reading about mounga, not racing at methven, as we know horses can be a challenge, but hopefully there just giving him a wee let up.

Hang in there Walt,, bloody scary those high winds, coast copped more down around haast and Franz, further up hasn't been that bad, but they usually cope with the big numbers ok, the mighty buller river only running at 3.9cumecs first alarm is at 8s I think, nothing like the big flood years back when peaked at 12m and change, hopefully eases up your way tomorrow, certainly don't want to much of his weather.

Batten down the hatches walt, look like rough weather heading your way, hopefully you guys get through unscathed.
  12. How true is that, some of them are not physically or mentally mature to race as 2yr olds, get tried and then tossed aside as the don't preform, shame really, when time and patience can make the difference, but time is money and classic races are the rage.
  13. Guess on the day anything is possible, only needs two bidders desperately wanting her, been a grand mare, and would like to think she maybe seen on the track before heading to stud, if she's still sound of course.
  14. Yes those were the days, every man and his dog, as we witnessed, certainly was a pile up, they say he tried to jump the shadow from the post, think I've got the race on VHS, and of Basil Dean, may have been the trotting championship, apparently he went overseas, but I never heard much about him after that, must be hard to let a champ like him go, never to return, bit like ole Durban chief, but did see a photo of him day before he was put down, and a letter to his owners, great book is unhoppled heroes.
  15. Yes the derby incident was on of the worst one could remember, liquid lightning the culprit.
  16. Nice stakes on offer at riverton, thought the fup light on numbers and quality
  17. Certainly been a lot that have come and gone over the years, a few I used to follow j Moffat, ray bruce, viki askew, Garry Blair, just to name a few, very tough game when you see the turnover of riders over the years, many I've forgotten about, the memory gets a reminder when I pick up an old race book.
  18. A mate thought he had contracted swine flu, so rung the 0800 swine flu hotline, all he got was crackling.
  19. Maybe the class of top weights these day, is not a patch on the past, most open class races you would have to describe as a glorified hack races, these days, the class is no longer. Looking at our cups races and see how many shouldn't get a start, but that's all that's available to fill the field.

Maybe I was abit harsh, but be interesting given the opinions on how he's been driven and how good he is, but obviously they are keen to stick to the grass, and with the same driver.

Mounga in the waimate cup in the weekend, see how he goes this time, must be due a win, or he'll be running out of excuses.
  22. Agree maybe a factor, obviously gets on well with her current driver, mind you the ratings keep them in the game long term, but he seems to have comeback very strong this campaign, just like his old stablemates mogul, great bread n butter horse.
  23. You'd have to add sods law to the list, another great ole preformer who keeps on giving, those types are hard to find.
  24. You've probably ridden mr aye bee and miles better by any chance, I can't list to many achievements, but can see your point of view.
