  1. But will Opes turn up, for his first raceride in nearly 3 months ?

  6. Spot on, Tompax. You could remember the days of Hercules, Albert sen and jun driving the night cart round at night to collect effluence---- you could remember the days of horses stabled all over Auckland, training at Avondale, Alex Park and Ellerslie-----Bringing the racehorse to public attention and interest.-----Now ? None, apart from your pony club friends near Orakei--------the lost generations

  10. Nothing will change and the slide will continue. . It's called evolution.
  11. Sadly there is nothing in horse racing to attract the masses. No horses on TV---like 40-50 years ago, Bonanza, Laramie, High Chapparal, Lone Ranger, Mr Ed etc----- and no cult figures. Racing people don't have a mentality attractive to the masses. Nothing will change.
  12. Hope you don't get withdrawal symptoms
  13. Back around 2006-07, following the tax parity gained in the 2005 election, NZ owners and trainers were elated and optimisitic with forecasts of 40% stake increases all around. After a big Derby win in Aust, Murray Baker was on the Aussie retro programme, chuckling about the " scrapbook " being the popular option, as opposed to the " chequebook " i.e selling the horse. That chuckling was a long time ago
  14. Once upon a time there was a Sylvia Park Handicap for 2 year olds at Ellerslie

  21. Do horse people actually still use " form " and pentrometers when trying to select winners ? " No wonder the masses have buggered off to sports betting "
  22. Hey Tompax, God never decreed that we had to bet on bog tracks. It's your choice he said in Bart p47, v3 which is the book after Tommy ( Smith )
