Good on him. That information changes everything. It just annoys the hell out of me that he is on air for free while seemingly representing the TAB but he is actually not? How do the TAB allow someone to do what he is doing and sit back and take all the profit (literally) and not pay him? There is a lot of that going on at the moment with the likes of your show trying to replicate the Box Seat and other things which are passing responsibilities onto clubs and volunteers. There is some bean counter or board member (maybe one and the same) who is sitting back and watching all this unfold feeling smug because the TAB's bottom line is being taken care. Be warned Mr Bean Counter that once the goodwill of participants lower down the food chain runs out there is nowhere else to turn and you will be royally stuffed. There is something just not quite right with what is going on at the moment. This Matthew Peden case is an excellent example for a raft of reasons. People are being used.

Mistreating people financially is not taboo. I would say it is actually encouraged in a lot of ways.. The TAB is a business, just so happens this business is a few weeks after its own Wall Street Crash so entry is limited to suckers only and will be for a few years to come.

You are the unique marshall of the Brodster's behaviour aren't you.
-
But they can still win 1700 odd off the horse with a single win bet. Can everyone do that? I think not.

Starship was a short lived wonder horse.

An each way day for me. Odds were up at 9.40 when I first checked. Off N Gone in race 2 at 4.60 and 1.80 is a sound price, especially the place price if you are that way inclined. She should get a decent run through and not have to do it too tough. Le Tissier is an ok horse at 4.20 and 1.80 in a weak field. Mighty Reactor is drawn inside of him but it has no gate speed so Robbie Holmes will go to the front and that might just give him the edge. He might have to win leading and not like his previous races wait a touch long to get into the finish!. Also need to carry on with Mossdale Mac at 2.90. Short but another weak field with only a few live shots in it. Not that I will back it but Major Mac, the northerner, opened at 9.50 so we will see if it gets backed in heavily again like it did last week....maybe with a few lazy 20 dollar bets. I am off out now the betting is complete. Thanks TAB. Methven in 2 weeks so less of Addington. The outlook is improving.

I don't think it is right he started favourite against Tuapeka Knight in most of their clashes.

You would never question CJ's ethics but last night was a bit of a faux pas booting up on the inside to get the trail and then easing right back to let the stablemate into the position instead. SPOT THE GAMBLE - broke at the 800 metres losing its chance. Driver C DeFilippi defended a breach of Rule 869(3)(f) which alleged he drove improperly racing into the first bend when restraining and allowing the parked ROYAL PRIDE (S Thornley) to shift into the trail. After viewing the films and hearing evidence from Stewards, C DeFilippi and S Thornley, the JCA found the charge proved and Mr DeFilippi's licence was suspended from the conclusion of racing on 30 August up to and including 25 September 2020 (7 days).

So if I heard right ( I can't find any information about it on the TAB site) the opening odds for Sunday harness racing are going to open at 10am on Saturday. Thank goodness they have finally settled on a time as the 4pm of weekdays was never adhered to on a Saturday. It used to range from anywhere between 1pm to 4pm and I was told countless times to get off my phone because I was looking to see if the odds were out. It was so distracting. Good on the TAB for doing this. The conspiracy theory lovers among us (not naming names) might see it as an attempt to further control betting because if you don't live near a designated TAB you won't be able to get a cash bet on as pub TABs will still be closed. Yeah, nah. Nice work, TAB.

I don't think we are addressing Matt's individual performance but since he is the front of the TAB now all questions will be directed towards him. That is not particular fair as it is kind of like working for FOX News and sticking to a script from higher above but what other options do punters have as the transparency of the TAB is rubbish (just like HRNZ) CP, what do you think of announcing 10 dollar bets on Trackside as an example of support for a horse? I think if one stops for a moment and thinks about that I find it quite worrying. And we still have the age old question of how someone can get $2500 on a horse and some can't get a dime on.

What a great drive from Mark Purdon on Self Assured. I think the Cup is over for the South Island horses. Only Copy That is the unknown.
-
Well done to the punter. Wild Excuse is a real racehorse. Related to Just An Excuse I think.
-
lol. I can't get 25 on at times yet they are mentioning 10 dollar bets. No wonder turnover is down. That Duffy Hollow earlier went from 71ff to 26. Probably on the back of 10 each way.
-
$2500 at 2s for Minstrel. Did the bookie just say Franco Niven had come in on bets of 100, 75, 50 and 10!! Are you frikking kidding me! The TAB are mentioning 10 dollar bets now on horses. Fark me. Unbelievable. A new level alright.

Got a 20m head start on quite a few but you would have to be keen to take the $1.70. Value? Ummmm not at all.

Westeros won at big odds beating an All Star hotpot. Every horse has its day....C'mon Spitfire!

Winterfell can't go as well left handed. Prefers Alexandra Park doesn't he? Did anyone remember that?

A message from Dean - TAB NZ Executive Team Update 27 August 2020 , News I am pleased to let you know the process of review of TAB NZ's Executive Leadership structure is now complete and we have confirmed our new leadership team which comprises of Jessica Meech - GM Corporate & Governance Services and Sam Moncur - GM Finance along with with existing executive Glen Saville - GM Customer and Betting who will hold the role until later this year and experienced industry executive Edward Rennell as GM Broadcasting and Operations until April 2021. The new structure will formally take effect on 7 September 2020. Both Jessica and Sam have been with the TAB for several years, most recently as General Counsel and Acting GM Finance respectively and have long standing personal involvement and commitments within the racing industry. The new team balances the need to maintain operational continuity and industry credibility with introducing new leadership. The Board is confident Glen, Edward, Jessica and Sam will help move TAB NZ to another level and focused on delivering world-class betting and entertainment services. Having Glen and Edward on board provides us with critical stability heading into our busiest period and give us time to conduct a national and international search to permanently fill these important roles. In the immediate term, the organisation is focused on financial sustainability and supporting staff as they respond to the challenges they and the business are facing as a result of the pandemic and economic uncertainty. I would also like to recognise the departing executives Stephen Henry, Gary Woodham and Andy Kydd and thank them for leading the organisation as it has transitioned from the New Zealand Racing Board, through the Racing Industry Transition Agency and into TAB NZ. The Board will resume its search for a permanent Chief Executive shortly which will then help inform the appointments of the Customer and Betting and Broadcasting and Operations roles. In the interim, I will be more involved in the day to day operational leadership needs of the business. Yours sincerely Dean McKenzie Executive Chair

While Leaf Stride is all the rage at 1.85ff it doesn't seem to have run any time at the trials and has drawn 1. It could be a world beater but Royal Pride at 8 and 2.05, drawn 2, is a decent each way bet with race experience and is getting better, especially after his second to a good horse last week. I would imagine he would look to lead and at least run a place. Free hit at the win price since he is paying 2s for the place? That is about all I can see tomorrow. It is rather a dry night for me but good watching.
-
Geezus. Yet to be caught this great whale of the equine variety but I am excited about the day this horse runs a place. Truly am. From a serious punting point of view, Le Tissier and Mighty Reactor will beat it home from the draws to begin with which leaves it filling one of two spots for the first 4. Anything is possible I suppose.

Mark Jones not happy with the Handicapper
Happy Sunrise replied to Happy Sunrise's topic in Trotting Chat
Mark Jones' comments scared me on this video after I backed Don't Lie To Me at $3. Thought I had done my dough with his summation but she won well. Bet the others who bought it down to $2.60 would have felt the same if they had heard it. Makes La Rosa and a few of his others this weekend good bets in comparison since he liked them. Are trainers good punters? 😲 -
What are the Australian rules on the whip?

Mark Jones goes 'full Brodie' (just joking Brodster) on the handicapper in his discussion of Burnham Boy's race tomorrow. HRNZ don't reply to his emails about it which is no surprise I suppose given what goes on there. Best bit starts around off at 2.25 and he has another flick at the handicapper near the end too. A number of good chances this week. And Mark is not happy with the handicapping! MARK JONES HARNESS RACING https://

He didn't stand much of a chance after what happened to his boss did he.
