No mention of Avondale ?? I saw this as the holy grail for them . They were going to be the BIGGGEST winners of Ellerslie's track upgrade. At least 2 to 3 years more solid racing guaranteed and who knows , May have been enough to make them a much needed part of racing infrastructure in the North again. Am I missing something or don't they want to be part of this Brave New World. I hope not but fear the latter. The track itself is ok to race and bet on , right handed and in Auckland.

Actually Des had a knack of winning the 1st race of the year at Ellerslie. Ocean Monarch owned by C D Mann Bonnybard the other. Think they were Highweights back in the day when then ran them all year round. Was Paul Sugden involved ? Lance Douglas was probably Des's last apprentice. Trained by Lance's Dad , Bunvaro the noted mudlark by Alvaro. That was some trip back in the day...

O and that speech re the $3 million Kelt the year after, never happened. Think he also screwed the Hawkes Bay Rugby team , financially , not physically ...
