I sure hope this works out better than it reads like it might do on paper. https://www.grnz.co.nz/News/2761/Dr-Michelle-Ledger-reviewing-Hatrick-Raceway I never would have guessed that an overseas Vet would be the ideal placement in doing the job of a landscape or civil engineer. The way a track should be structured is already well documented, so do we really need a Vet to step out of their comfort zone & redesign the wheel? I'd normally say that GRNZ could do far better but I don't believe this current lot of brass can. I reckon they're just doing "something" to tick a box.

It's not what has been done, it's who's done it. Sound familiar? 5 breaches of the same rule on the same day. Breach #1 $150.00 (minor infringement table) Breach #2 $150.00 (minor infringement table) Breach #3 $150.00 (minor infringement table) Breach #4 $100.00 (RIB ruling) Breach #5 $100.00 (RIB ruling) https://racingintegrityboard.org.nz/decisions/non-raceday-inquiry-written-decision-dated-28-september-2021-john-mcinerney/

Here's my take. Trials are not televised. Therefore if ugly things happen during them pretty much no-one knows about it other than maybe a blip in the Stewards report. The trials prior to a race meeting are sometimes actually guinea pigs running around the track (see #1). If issues with the track were detected today during the trials, noting is publicly recorded about it as the entire meeting was abandoned. Any injuries sustained will not be recorded as racing or "raceday" injuries. Every number "padded" by how things are recorded is a better look when the Crown or anti's come knocking.

All of the Palmy races today abandoned. What is it this time?

Go Home Duke doesn't seem to have had the chance to make it home in the last 31 days. 9 x 457m = 4113m + 650m = 4763m + (10 races x 75m past the post) = 5513m of hard out running before it even began to voluntarily start to slow down. Someone should tap @Honestjohn on the shoulder & suggest not to buy this dog if he's in the market. It hasn't been trained responsibly for quite some time now.

Although there are many good reasons to be scared away from owning a racing greyhound, don't let the misreading BitofaLegend's post be one of them. The numbers he had quoted initially was for an entire litter (15 to 30k) to get the litter broken in & ready to race. He then stated that he as a trainer on a 50/50 deal needed each dog to make 12k a year in which he would be paying someone like yourself as the owner 6k (50%) of it. One thing he didn't mention was that he would sell one or more of the dogs to an "owner" for whatever selling price was negotiated. Hope that clarifies & expands on the good information he has provided.

You know, avoiding/breaching the rules then getting caught & penalized is one thing. Avoiding the penalty is a next level event & GRNZ needs to sort this shit out. Freeman & Cole are just doing what they always have done with only the next new sign on the window. How is that alright with anyone in the industry? GRNZ, you do not deserve the social license that you're letting erode away anyways.

I'm very sorry my posts don't meet your high standards. It might be best if you put me on your ignore list.

I have no idea what the terms are for a syndicate. I've only ever owned dogs outright. The article I referenced was about guide dogs for the blind. By posing it it got some attention generated about your real question. If you're serious about exploring syndication I'd recommend contacting a public trainer in your area of the country. https://www.grnz.co.nz/trainers/find-public-trainer.aspx If they don't do syndicates themselves they'll surely know someone around them that does.

This article claims it cost $22,500 to get a dog to its maiden run. https://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-news/manukau-courier/755855/New-guide-dog-centre-leads-the-way#:~:text=The centre will provide more, are provided free of charge. It does not make any claims of the cost once in work, but it seems to me the cost to a syndication would have concluded after its first placement.

What's the GRNZ Welfare Manager been busy doing while this has transpired? Where's Dr. Malcolm Jansen (Lead GRNZ Vet) been while this has played out? Obviously the GRNZ board has no accountability on this matter because they've been working overtime trying to figure out how Angela Turnwald's daughter could go about acquiring her training licence on the same troublesome Foxton property (under it's 3rd name now because of previous wrong doings under first Freeman/Turnwald then Angela Turnwald). GRNZ have been put on notice by the crown and they're still under the assumption that no-one will notice. https://www.grnz.co.nz/News/2742/GRNZ-Accept-Recommendations-in-Review "We share the Government’s determination to ensure animal care is our priority and our community will continue to focus on the wellbeing of our dogs. We will cement in the continued gains made under the new management. We will work assiduously with the RIB and government to ensure that our processes will deliver on the shared goal of excellence in animal care and transparency of information. We accept that these processes will need to be maintained over the longer term to provide the appropriate reassurance. Despite this we may continue to face criticism raised by anti-racing groups. We do respect and always will respect the social licence we have been granted."

Spot on. Welfare & injury prevention have never been at the forefront of GRNZ's concerns. With their words they have been but with their actions it's been anything but. Once upon a time they put up a new plastic rail at Wanganui to help protect dogs from the actual rail. Nothing was done there after to any other tracks except removing some of it from Wanganui. Once upon a time at Addington, they put a new lure arm which reached out further from the rail. Why hasn't that been rolled out to the rest of the tracks? What happened to the camera on the lure arm at Palmy? Valuable intel would have been generated by it. Did anyone at GRNZ actually look at was was happening from that angle during the races? Who's brilliant idea was it to start races on a corner? Look at the foot prints on the track made by the #1 dog in this race because it ran to where he lure was when the boxes popped open. It's focus is 100% on the lure. A bit further on and still 100% focus. Can anyone predict what's going to happen next to the #1? Lure still has the #1's complete focus. This isn't looking very safe, is it? #1's doing exactly what it's been trained to do & this is it's reward. Luckily no injuries were reported in the Stewards report, this time..... Full Race Replay

Race #6 Addington yesterday. https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/14693/stewards-report.aspx NONILLION (6) - glanced outwards momentarily then checked by HOMEBUSH ICE on two occasions early stages. Handler A McCook was shown the films with a warning being placed on the Racing Manners record of NONILLION. HOMEBUSH ICE (8) - ran inwards sharply early stages tightening SOZIN'S PRINCESS and checking NONILLION on two occasions. Tightened on bend losing ground. Assessed by vet and cleared of injury. Stewards deemed this performance unsatisfactory with HOMEBUSH ICE having to complete a Satisfactory Trial. #8 FTP looksie straight out of the boxes. #6 turning for a FTP kissy kiss a stride later. #8 marring #6 shortly after. Even after the mar, the #8 wants more. So what the hell is a warning & unsatisfactory performance got to do with this race. Seems to be some very Quirky decisions being handed down.... Full replay

Government puts greyhound racing on notice after review into industry
Yankiwi replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Dog Chat
I beg to differ Aquaman. $2m might (and that's a big might) pay for the kennel blocks, lighting & a parking lot. Where's his rough estimate for drainage, track, lure, photo finish, tower, fencing, miles of underground electrical cabling, tractors, watering truck and/or irrigation? What about the land? With all due respect, Michael doesn't have a clue about what the costs associated would be. Why invest maybe $10m (a closer estimate than the dribble that spilled from his mouth) into a new build on ground that is proven to be moving? My estimate doesn't include the cost to purchase land either. A straight track is a good (and HISTORIC) idea. To even consider building it on land that has moved & will again is simply stupid. -

So this is where the Racing & Welfare manager thinks his time is best spent. Wasn't it less than 3 weeks ago GRNZ was put on put on notice? Every time this joker opens up his mouth to speak, only dribble comes out. https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/126406503/three-groups-compete-for-land-at-christchurchs-qeii-park?fbclid=IwAR2op7JbeQxN9TO2jsq1877AoSZCYeyK4MiA2SZ7cP2EyZRemdUd4jZ8db8 -

A Steward has again proven they simply don't know what they are doing. https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/14676/stewards-report.aspx The 3rd offence is supposed to be referred to the JCA which doesn't exist anymore (but have been referring to the RIB in its absence). The Stewards have no right in applying the $150 fine for the 3rd offence. The $150 fine is meant to be applied to a 2nd offence.

I don't doubt you Jason. Question for everyone, if that's the case, how was Peter Lamb looking after the punters interests? https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/racing-long-time-harness-starter-peter-lamb-sacked-following-chaotic-new-zealand-cup/YK4RYMCWPHZGJAWE2ARZDPNV2M/ Sounded to me the Stewards were looking after another Steward, right?
-
Fully agree with Chief on this one. Stewards do not serve the punter. A Steward's responsibility is to enforce the rules of the code they are overseeing on the day. This should be done equally among all participants without any favoritism or bias. Anything other than that and they should be disciplined for their indiscretions. Unfortunately, that would mean integrity, at least at their level, was being upheld. That's something that is rarely or never seen within NZ racing scene.

I've never sat in a sulky. I didn't watch the race. I don't intend on watching the replay. I didn't realize that you had to be a Harness driver to have an interest in the code or this forum. I know the feeling @the galah. I've been on that end of the stick before with him & it started to remind me of another forum I used contribute to about racing.
