These were cropped from three different original images. All show the same two eyed, two eared, one nosed tea towel. You can see that the tea towel moves a bit between the images, especially along the back of the tea towel, although the lure arm remains in the same position. If I were a tea towel with my head & neck bound tightly to something, I'm sure my back would be flexing back & forth trying to get away, just like the tea towel in the images was.

If trainers aren't ultimately responsible, then why was J Mac charged for the death of 5 dogs on a ferry that he wasn't on at the time?

Let me start with the image that was broadcast on TV when the incident began. Then rotated the entire image, 40 degrees CCW.... Then starting to zoom in, just in front of the starting box... That's what we're looking at. For those who are not a fan of Bichon Friese's and prefer rabbits, I can do something very similar with another of the images that were initially broadcast....

An exclusion from a race course is not a penalty. Inclusion at a race course is a privilege, not a right. The exact same can be said for holding a license, be that greyhound (GRNZ), harness (HRNZ) or gallop (NZTR). If someone doesn't meet the applicable standards to hold the privilege of such license, simply they either don't get one or it is removed from them, that is not a penalty. If I can't pass a theory or practical driving test, I can't hold a drivers license. Same difference....

A mile is easier to understand than 1760 yards or 5280 feet (how many furlongs is that)? Possibly they are kept short in distance to look after their fan base? When you think of it, many Yanks are NASCAR fans & most of their races are 400 or 500 miles. At a beer every ten laps, most fans are comatose or dead by the end of the race. -

Lets look at this in similar terms, but outside of racing. Say "Bill" parked his car in town & his parking meter time had expired. The ticket writer (police) came along & knew full well that it was a minor infringement & the fine was to be $20.00. But instead of issuing the prescribed $20 fine (as the minor infringement table specified), the meter reader referred the violation to the court system because while Bill's time did expire on the parking meter, it had only expired 5 minutes before the meter reader noticed it. The meter reader felt that a $20 fine was far to excessive for the mere 5 minutes. What this hypothetical story hasn't yet said is that the meter reader is Bill's wife. So the meter reader shows up in the court room the next day, while Bill stays home to look after the kids. The Judge is completely ok with the fact that Bill's not present at the hearing. The judge decides to cut the fine in half because the meter reader said that the time was not that far overdue & a parking fine had been halved before under similar circumstances. I wonder what the meter readers boss would think about paying her (probably overtime) for attending the court hearing... Nice aye? -

I've heard it rumoured. I'd be doubtful that one did exist. I would be more likely to believe that a tap on the shoulder & a verbal "ok" could have been given. I see nothing sort of thing... -

I'm not at all questioning the result. I am questioning the road to get to that result. If a precedent had already been set, then it's up to the trainer to bring that evidence before the JCA. I'll say it again, it's not up the to RIU to decide whether they think a fine in the minor infringement table is too steep or not. That is a guideline given to the RIU. The table is written in to the rules for a reason and that reason to keep those minor issues out of the JCA's hands & further burdening the system. If the trainer was not satisfied with what is in the table, then it's his & his alone option to challenge it. As for precedents, hypothetically, if I were to today take very recent photographic evidence of say nine other trainers (3 top line, 3 middle of the road & 3 hardly ever heard of) live baiting their greyhounds, which of those nine trainers would still be putting dogs around the track more than a year later? Would the RIU be claiming their hands are tied in all cases because they didn't act on the photos & a couple of days after I put them into their hands, I took another set of them and put the in front of the SPCA? In my opinion, the RIU are more corrupt then those who they are tasked with policing. -

Just out today... http://www.jca.org.nz/non-race-day-hearings/non-raceday-inquiry-riu-v-ac-roberts-decision-datd-14-september-2018 Why did the RIU take an inquiry to the JCA for a reduction in fine from the Minor Infringement Table? It's not up to the RIU to determine what is a reasonable fine. That's a task for GRNZ (in the case of a Minor Infringement table) or the JCA (something covered by the table). If the trainer had a problem with the amount he was getting fined from the table, then it's his option to file for an appeal. Yet again, the RIU overstepping the boundaries for what must be a "favoured" trainer. -

Here's one example it goes further than inconsistencies, it goes as far as polar opposites. In the greyhound code not that long ago, a trainer in Chch had a bit of a meltdown & punched a hole in the wall after leaving the Steward room. He promptly paid for the repairs, yet the RIU charged him regardless (and fair enough). That same week (I believe) in Wanganui, a trainer threatened to slit another trainers throat right in front of a Steward. No charges filed (or passing information forward to the police). I mean really? A month or so after the events I questioned officials as to what the go was. The answer I received were that no charges were filed because the trainer that had received the threat didn't want to press charges. Isn't the RIU aware that it's not a requirement for anyone to complain to them first, before enforcing the GRNZ rules? At least within the Greyhound code, in the RIU's eyes, it seems it's not what someone had done, it's who had done it. -

Reports of match fixing have surfaced in the recent Salmon fishing competition.

If the presenter said on air he liked the #7 & talked down the #8, that'd be a different story. I usually "like" the chances of more than one dog/horse in a race.

Different rule - different circumstances. You seem to keep wanting to move the goal post. If you'd like to create a thread about stand-downs, have at it. I may or may not choose to contribute. This thread is about weight variances. Once again, what is the date of the day preceding today?
-
Lawyers are not judges. Lawyers are trained to create an argument for either side of a disagreement. If I was to "pay" a lawyer to create an "opinion" on this matter, I'm sure he would side with me. That's how they make money! The rule is what is says. The RIU has no more right to make a judgement over the matter than I do. If this were put to the JCA, I'd have little faith that they'd dig into it any further than coming up with the end result that the RIU and/or GRNZ wanted. It all comes down to corruption within the self governing code. By the way, does anyone know what the date was in the day preceding today?
-
I've said the RIU is wrong. It's all in black & white, you just have to read & understand it. "provided that such Greyhound has not performed in any Race during the preceding 28 days" What if the rule read "provided that such Greyhound has not performed in any Race during the preceding 1 day"? Since today is 11 Sept, what is that preceding day to 11 Sept?

I do not recall reading that anyone was "using" drugs. I did read that at least some are being charged for supply of drugs. Every dealer doesn't use....
