Further to the above topic Count Crackers. All this occurred around 95/96/97. I well remember it because I was racing the stayer of the year against Count Crackers, and was very concerned at the time not only for Crackers, but also my own dog becoming involved in a traffic accident caused by Crackers collapsing in front of us. I personally wrote to the Board of Greyhound NZ at the time to have this shameful display of cruelty to the dog, and the danger it posed to other dogs in the field stopped. They did the right thing and acted after many complaints.

Count Crackers was the dog that would collapse at the business end of the race, you will remember this Jonathon. The dog raced on Kyno Seleen to try and rectify this from happening. Count Crackers was a stayer, and on a number of occasions would crash to the deck in the home straight in horrible pain, and would have to be carried from the track. It was cruel for the dog. It was a danger to others in the field, and it was a very bad look for the image of dog racing. Never the less, this did not stop the connections or trainer from continuing to line poor Count Crackers up in staying races in the full knowledge this may happen to the dog. What did ultimately stop it was the fact Heptapinol was discovered to be an ingredient in Kyno Seleen, and this was a prohibitive drug under the rules. This meant Count Crackers could no longer race on Kyno. This did not stop the trainer from lining the poor dog up knowing it was likely to collapse. After several more episodes of collapsing the NZGRA finally stopped it from racing. Just another example of why puppy farmers should not exist in this day and age.

Agree, good compromise . At least BOAY can move on.

More like tired dogs rather than motion sickness expecting 16 month puppies to have 4th race in 11 days. Have to feel sorry for these pups, given little chance to succeed. Sad thing is, the dam Punch on Jamie was a very good bitch.

What a bunch of sissy's you lot are. Thin skinned, and oh so offended. Grow up, its a big world out there. Get over it, do not read posts that offend your precious feelings. Stick to your guns Chief, and only censor in extreme cases. Censorship only leads to bias, and that will lead this site in the same direction that Race Cafe has gone. Personally, I have found nothing wrong with Thomas's posts, and if he is going to be the yardstick for offensive postings, then the site will be in deep shyte. I hope Hesi can build a bridge, but ultimately its his decision to stay or go. My hope is he will reconsider.

Fourth race in 12 days today for some of the Punch on puppies.

Watch this for an amazing Jockey recovery in Irish PTP

Amazing really. Common sense out the window. The testing these days is so extreme that just living and breathing in this toxic world will produce positives. There needs to be thresholds set on positives especially where it will not impact performance. Judicial panels need to throw out cases where cross contamination is clearly evident. -
Enough of the banter boys and girls, lets not forget the intention of this thread. Its about the demise of the puppy Chocolate lover. Also its surviving littermates that are coming up for there 3rd race in 8 days next Friday. Is there a place in the Greyhound code for unscrupulous greedy dog farmers exploiting these beautiful creatures without regard for their best interests.

Thanks for that Charles, my computer skills are such, that I am unable to do what you have.

Regardless of this, I am of the opinion 16 months is a joke. What idiots thought that moving it two months would change anything, they are still pups, As I said, my opinion.
-
Simple Jonathon, just check NZGRA site. The bulk of your Punch On pups qualified in November 2018 aged 14 months.
-
I would hazard a guess and say, the rule may have changed August 2018, but was not ratified until Jan 2018. This is purely a guess on my part. Otherwise very shoddy work on those policing the rules. Regardless of this, I am of the opinion 16 months is a joke. What idiots thought that moving it two months would change anything, they are still pups, and still growing at 14 months or 16 months. Just more limp wristed reaction from an under achieving NZGRA.
-
Fact is, Chocolate lover qualified December 2018 aged 15 months, three of his litter mates qualified in November 2018 aged 14 months. This is post August 2018. So what is going on here. Are they now not treating a qualifying trial a race.
-
Yes, a qualifying trial is a race with up to 8 dogs. It is know different to a tote race. And the NZGRA under their own rules, allows all dogs or bitches regardless of size, the right to start racing at 14 months old. And they have the audacity to preach they are interested and promote welfare for these beautiful animals. They are full of sh#t.
-
No matter which way I look at this, it just does not make sense. Economically where is the advantage long term. By lining up immature pups, you risk serious injury. You risk wreaking their confidence for all time. You risk burn out early if they get that far. I can only conclude, its greed and stupidity that is the motivation. It also highlights an uncaring attitude towards animals. This type of behaviour will be the very ammunition that activists will bring to bear to have Greyhound racing banned. You would go a long way to find support from the Veterinary world as to the safety and long term welfare of allowing 14 month old dogs to race. And yet, the NZGRA allow this cruel behaviour. They are nothing but pri#ks.
-
I see the dog farmer is lining up five 16 month old pups in the last at Forbury today. One of them is a 34.7 kilo dog. Three others are 33 plus kilo's. Four of them qualified at 14 months old, all have had at least one raceday start, and most having second start in four days. I will let you decide if this is good for animal welfare, and the image you would like projected about Greyhound racing in NewZealand.

Made boxing dogs sloooowly an art form. Never mind the filthy mary lous.

Are the NZGRA through their Welfare Officer following up on all these fighters that are imported to NZ, and then getting put out for 3 months or more, as to their status. By that I mean, are they checking on their welfare. These are perfectly sound dogs, and do not deserve a bullet in the head, or a lethal needle administered by a Vet after being imported from a foreign country. This surely would not be hard to do by a Welfare Officer that was intent on doing their job. I find it inconceivable that this follow up would not be done.

Have not had look at replay, but from what I observed, looked like turning its head coming up home straight. That is to the dog on its outer. Is that what you saw Fritter?.

What a disingenuous statement. Both Clone Your Own and Above All were ready to go when sent to Mr Britton. They were bred, reared, educated, and trained by Merv and Alison. They arrived in Australia at the top of their game. All the fore said would be alien to Honestly. Mr Britton did a good job with ready made dogs. The best was there when they arrived. Mr Britton maintained them at their best. And whilst on the subject of Mr Britton, he I am sure does not, and would not line up 16 month old 33 kilo puppy dogs in races. He is far to good a trainer to do such cruel and stupid acts such as what happened to the puppy Chocolate Lover.
-
What a stupid comment. How the hell would you know whether the outcome would of been different. Could also mean that if the dog was not a puppy and was fully developed, he would not of broken his leg. Many dogs hit the rail, happens all the time, and they do not brake legs. But then thats not the point. The point is, the greedy trainer couldn't wait for the pup to grow up. The pup was 16 months old and never stood a chance.
-
Thanks for that Jason, very kind of you.

Chocolate Lover was 33 plus kilo's, which is quiet large for a Greyhound.
