  1. The maidener was less than a length behind a very smart one at its last start, so not a real surpise but perhaps price was.
  2. I don't think the politics of elections needs to be involved in racing, I think it only needs to come from common sense decisions of the governing body. The future of NZ racing looks extremely boring and I'd have to say its only recently (last couple of years) I've really noticed that.
  3. All about the stud career, cracking field that race. I'm going Libertini.
  4. Only used as a finishing post on race day aren't they?
  5. Yet another reason why the centralisation of racing in the NZ won't work, outside of big carnival days is there really any point racing in Auckland? Must be a nightmare Auckland traffic etc getting your horses there?
  6. One would expect the speed they are going over jumps would have an impact. A part of jumping imo is the surface and stamina qualities that requires, spectacle it creates , both a bit negated on AWT I'd have thought.
  7. I wouldn't have thought it would be a good look on the AWT surely go a bit too quick for the jumps, a bit like Hastings a few weeks ago. Maybe beach volleyball might be a goer?
  8. You'll probably find that they think, trainers owners etc will up and go from other venues and have their horses trained/in work at the new facility. A bit like what they were assuming was going to happen with the venue plan - utter nonsense!
  9. I'm over the moon the numbers are great, long may it continue and we'll done to those involved if that's the case. That doesn't take away from the fact Trackside Radio should be a priority! ask anyone in the industry.
  10. Of course they'll disagree , its needed make no bones about that, ask anyone in the industry if they miss it and feel the same. You want to be careful these glorified numbers you're pushing aren't happening just due to the odd nature of the time we are in and that they are in fact improved performance . There will be a price to pay for having no trackside radio and the impact of that will no doubt be felt in the future if they continue without it.
  11. Good to see some figures, so when does trackside radio return?
  12. Yes it would be good to see, impossible to support without it.
  13. Exactly, I've watched a few houses being built doesn't make me a builder or an expert.
  14. Same here, I don't like them as a spectacle for racing but if it can be proven they work , will encouraging more punting , sustainable costs ,racing not at the expense of other venues(which appears to be already happening) better racing etc then I have nothing against them. But where apart from a couple of larger trainers espousing their virtues can one find such info in relation to NZ?
  15. When you're agenda driven you don't look at numbers! unless of course that drive your agenda.
  16. How so? Many race clubs lost their dates altogether for no other reason than progress. Ruakaka been getting used for years, once the AWT is up and running at Cambridge - best of luck to them.
  17. How have they been shat on? Certainly a lot less than alot of other clubs.
  18. I thought he was going to Aus. ?
  19. So true and still today many are ruining NZ racing as we speak. As you know its like a big club, this can be evidenced by the fact that certain clubs and certain administrators never get called out or critiqued , this has been the biggest problem in NZ racing and continues to be. The venue plan was a prime example of this, the M report also Te Rapa refused to sell up and move to a new facility nothing said, some smaller venues fight for their lives the industry labels them selfish or living in the past. Pukekohe is a disaster yet they still allocate race dates why? Other venues have something go wrong and they are isolated and excluded. It's not a level playing field that is for certain.
  20. Not only that but a number of those proposing the track be installed at all costs have no skin in the game as Pitman puts it. Many can and will just walk away from the industry without a care in the world.
  21. Exactly , it'll only take them to rejig the calendar to give it the kick to touch they want to. Many of us have seen this before, this is not just about an AWT its about the future of many venues and interest in the sport also. The current Administration have shown they don't care a stuff about any of the local country venues etc. this will only be hastened by the setup of this track, racing is dying off in the provinces at an alarming rate, due to poor policy and mismanagement and a CEO hell bent on looking like he is doing something. I wouldn't mind the track if it was financially feasible and didn't have a negative impact on any of the other areas that wish to race and prosper , but it will be used as the be all and end all make no bones about that.
  22. Probably shows how disillusioned they are with racing more like it. Good on you for making the effort to go, but why apart from training do you think these AWTs are good for racing in NZ?
  23. Plenty enough tracks available , just poor leadership and misinformation(i.e. they cost the industry a fortune to operate, complete and utter lies, if I had a $ for every time some misinformed fool told me that I'd be buying Savabeels at the sales) industry wide that has reduced the number of tracks available for use, one only has to look at the pathetic calendar that has been put in place , needs a total revamp and many a fresh set of eyes to look over it. We have an organisation like NZTR who are doing all they can to eliminate tracks, for what? For the sake of it, to make it look like they are doing something. I've never heard a single valid reason for this , has anyone else? The average racegoer in NZ loves what they had available summer race days on grass surface with a fun family atmosphere, so what do we want to do in NZ replace it with endless boring pointless race days by the looks of it on AWTs. These days are the industry shop window. They'll tell you they will be keep the odd days , but the AWTs will kill them all off , all the enthusiasm and hours of unpaid input from volunteers it'll all go by the wayside. I believe these tracks are only being put in so it looks like we are trying to keep up with the rest of the world. Meanwhile the rest of the world moves on.
  24. And we all know where the extra money will come from to do all they can in an attempt to make them work. How can any sane person support this without a proper commercial analysis being completed and submitted for review? And we are supposed to wonder why stakes are so poor with decision making like this.
