  1. Proof again (as if anyone needed any other the the breeders and the nutters at the NZTR) that trying to keep horses In NZ by offering stakes at the Group and listed level so far out of proportion to the income that they generate (subsidies) does not work.
  2. Plus I think most races aren't actually sponsored anymore. The naming of the race is usually associated with some barter/contra deal involving having a function at the races. Given the people involved and their conflicts of interest I would suggest that the Club would be a net loser on the deal.
  3. Shouldn't it really be named the Karyn Fenton Ellis, nee Bisdee, nee nee (neigh neigh) Fenton, David Ellis stakes or maybe The Narcissism special.
  4. Down again. Feel for them - such a busy racing day
  5. And one of those puff pieces includes condescending remarks by Matt Allnutt of GoRacing and Adrian Rodley towards Trent Busuttin. Trent looked suitably pissed off and I don't blame him. All good keen blokey stuff tho he should be happy that they've deigned to give him a horse to train.
  6. Might have spoken too soon - the puff pieces are back but still not as bad as in the past
  7. Obviously an in-house production now and good to see them concentrating on the in ring coverage - no incessant patter over the auctioneer. Only minor quibble is that they are a bit late putting up the graphics on the current lot.
  8. All ya eggs in one basket Tommy - overall loss to the industry and I admit that going to a couple of the Sunday evening meetings prior to attending the sales was a good experience but there is limited crossover and unfortunately selling horses at the high end does nothing to foster domestic racing
  9. Mayor/President/Chair of Members council/pick your conflict of interest Wayne Guppy did push back at the Board which was ironic because he was the one who rubber stamped all the NZB/Breeders boys being on there. You think they were going to say no to NZB? Talk about laugh Trev.
  10. On what used to be Wellington Cup day huge crowds, good turnover (and with a good successful meeting in Auckland the following evening) you replace it with what looks like a sparsely attended, highly subsidised by the rest of the industry, non-event for which you will earn no money. Put the dunce's cap on and sit in the corner. BTW who was the starter?
  11. So Mark Rosanowski on track at Trentham today in place of Bev and Rodders and the supposed "A team"and after just 1 race and post race interviews - great interviews pure class and professionalism. Underused talent
  12. Yip I think that's called ironic isn't it?
  13. Was my point Tommy
  14. Generally I agree - but always dependent on who it is.
  15. Topic not covered in this morning's Dom (not surprising really as they just take what's fed them these days). So looks like I'll have to drop a line to them or to one of the animal activist groups.
  16. Don't agree. They add plenty to a broadcast. No problem with the Aus ones. We have a problem recognising talent in NZ and sometimes give people the job for the wrong reasons - mates, used to work for us in another position - which is a society wide issue which racing does not have on its own but tend to stand out when they're on TV. So I have a problem with a couple of our ones but am ardent admirers of others.
  17. No definitely Josh Fleming on Race 2 - getting old I think
  18. Sounded like Allan Thomas calling at Eagle Farm today. If so he didn't miss a beat after 4 years of not calling
  19. To be fair to RACE (which I hate to do) this day is always going to be a disaster for them as the "industry" at the behest of NZB has had to start this Cup meeting a week earlier to accomodate the Ellerslie Karaka meeting being held on the Saturady when the Cup was usually run (for about 30 years at least). The very casual punter hasn't changed their routines to cater for this and likely never will.
  20. Anyone seen their 2019 annual report. Last one I can find is the 2018. I was just wondering if any money had flown through from the sale of the land that has now been developed for housing at the top of the 1200m chute. Houses have been sold and a work colleague is moving in to one this by now so the money must be coming in by now - surely?
  21. Butch has always been "all bullshit and jellybeans".
  22. As good as you're going to get Rusty - unfortunately. Nothing on the NZTR website
  23. Whata shitshow
  24. Just had a squiz at R5 - I take it the inside of the track has not withstood the rigours on recent racing?
  25. BTW Mick was very obsequious of Kerry Hoggard and the Alexander Park Apartments and look where that ended up
