Very little Freda. It will eventually for the big breeders when they sell but the effect will take a while. As pointed out by Reefton on another thread there are a number of situations horse trainers/owners etc should be paying tax on selling horses now - the introduction of a CGT will only make things clearer. A lot of scaremonging will happen over the next few years but the reality is that the world has changed massively since "income" tax was introduced in the early 20th century and what was income and capital then is not the same as it is now and such an arbitrary distinction only serves an elite few. Every other developed country has one and it has not affected "their way of life" as the Leader of National Party so ridiculously suggested. Also.there are many examples currently where so called capital gains are treated as income and taxed accordingly. There are also examples where unrealised capital gains are taxed and fortunately Cullen and co haven't recommended that.
  2. What are the odds that one of the 1st two meetings gets called off RaceInfo Meetings Meeting News Awapuni Track Update Meeting News Awapuni Track Update The trials held at Awapuni on Tuesday (19th Feb) went well, with all reports from jockeys in regards to the reconstructed home bend being favourable. NZTR representatives, and RIU Stipendiary Stewards Neil Goodwin and Darin Balcombe were in attendance and all received positive comments from the riders. Based on the success of the trials, the next raceday at Awapuni, Friday 1 March, will be run on the new bend. That raceday will give all industry participants the opportunity to view the new bend in action prior to the Courtesy Ford Manawatu Sires Produce raceday to be held on Saturday 30 March.
  3. Had a bet earlier - now "no racing available"
  4. This whole "Shark" BS pisses me off - ie using the shark to (supposingly) pick everything gallops, trots, sports the whole lot. Clearly not the same person. Prefer to follow someone with at least a few known credentials even someone like Staf or not like Bev.
  5. Bitofayarn hired Glen Saville to update the software for $50 (left out the "m")
  6. Yip he worships false gods - the one thing that NZ racing has in abundance
  7. Good opinion but hiring people from the financial services industry to the TAB - truckloads came on with Bayliss and look how that turned out. When the Paddy Power contract was 1st announced I tweeted to John Allen that his claim that the system would be delivered on time and on budget (and implicitly one that isn't a dog like the one we got) was actually a prayer and why should we trust him given the TABs tragic history on such projects (eg Typhoon) he stated that he was confident that they had joined up with the best people with a history of delivering etc etc. So effectively he searched for people who knew more than him and his staff. (This was at least in part due to the historical knowledge being gutted by previous administrations). Trouble is the TAB got pantsed on that contract and when they could not deliver on time were losing $1m on penalty payments per week to the Poms which I suspect was why the system was launched when it clearly was in no fit state to do so. i.e. they sent a boy (Saville) on a boys errand and the Poms made hay. Diana Taylor's story is also something that we've seen time and time again in positions (especially in IT but not exclusively) in NZ government and private sector organisations. Projects fail and the people involved move on (with a nice payout for a job well done) to another cushy number where they will fail again - record unblemished. Which is where bullshiting or Public Relations come in. You ignore the negative and focus on the positive however small and spurious they may be (JA saying we did so many transctions on a day or Saville claiming that we were only 3 million OVER budget). That's where Hughes comes into her own - a BSing supremo. But take comfort as a wise man once said - "Don't worry it will only last forever". For attribution purposes that man was Spike Milligan's father.
  8. Seems to be a key factor over the years for that position.
  9. Always a crap track - too many biases. Had a false reputation as a result of priming by self interested parties. If the Cambridge Artificial Track does go ahead - which would be a huge folly IMO - you could only run lower grade racing there. Big days need grass racing at a track with good facilities (while you can always supplement them with temporary stuff). Any comment on the track on Weigh Inn - don't suppose they got their buddy Rudders on to comment (spin).
  10. Interesting Cairon's had his own "judiciary" issues lately https://www.racingvictoria.com.au/news/2019-02-07/racing-victoria-media-statement---ballarat-training-complex
  11. Yip its a lie and always has been but
  12. Maybe the cattle prods were in the bedroom for "recreation" purposes?
  13. I'm fine with the actions now that Weir has admitted "guilt" Andrew Bensley‏ @AndrewBensley 10m10 minutes ago Here are details announced earlier this morning by ⁦@RacingInsider⁩ Stewards. Stewards will argue their case at the RAD Board hearing that Darren Weir should face a disqualification of four years.
  14. He's a beaut - good comedy if you are forced to listen
  15. Not working today tho
  16. Having a whinge about the results under the new system at my local TAB agency this morning and was told that I should look under the "prov results" tab and viola! there is the old system. Obviously the last to know and the TAB obviously publicised this but I just missed it. A very good agency - one of the few remaining - but of course will be in danger as the powers that be seek to slash costs (excluding upper management obsence salaries of course which no doubt remain sacrosanct ) to try and stop the bleeding occurring as a result of the dog and relating penalty payments. Of course the people affected by this massive lack of judgement had anything to do with it.
  17. Well maybe they don't trust the Integrity boys. The rest is just evidence in the prosecution case before a trial in court. I haven't entered into the conversation to say who is right or wrong "merely" to say that racings justice system is not fair. Justice is not done by public opinion, establishment bias or anything else, it should be done by a fair and equitable system where the alleged perpretrators are assumed innocent till proven guilty.
  18. I supposed that the issue may be indirectly a sop to animal rights activist (whose concerns I share on a number of issues eg whip use) and if it was a factor in their actions then it supports a view that it is a "show" put on for other purposes. The fact that DW or JM would not comment is entirely understandable given that they have already been charged and is entirely their right as it is in any fair justice system. The argument that their horses could have been "treated" earlier in the day (what two days after they were charged?) is bizarre and fanciful. Given the cost to the industry why didn't they put a couple of their stewards (or some neutral observers - the UN might be able to help) on site to ensure that this didn't occur.
  19. Irrelevant.
  20. You miss my point Rowley - guilty until proven innocent
  21. What they do have in common however is that they administer systems which are contrary to natural justice IMO
  22. Seriously though Barry it is perplexing to me that one meeting out of the thousands (?) of meetings since the dog was whelped this one should be affected. If the TAB were in their wisdom be prepared to acknowledge it and issue a short memo about it I'm sure they would paint it as an extremely isolated incident. But is it unlikely to occur again? Unlike you I am no computer expert but it appears to be due to an inherent fault in the system - one of many I think.
