Are the A/W's already becoming a white elephant ???
nomates replied to nomates's topic in Galloping Chat
From all accounts it seems the trainers put pressure on for more grass track trials in the region and so NZTR have put on trials at Tauranga on the 6th . Trainers making it clear that the A/W isn't a one size fits all . -

Not a word that is in their vocabulary . Even if they identify some areas for improvement any announcement will be all about the positives , as they see them . -
LRC was in the Horowhenua Consortium with OMRC when i arrived in Levin 28 years ago . Race definitely intended to sell the track if they got hold of it 20+ years ago and whilst they were going to lease the track back to LRC this time it was on short term leases from what i can gather , the intention would always be to sell sooner rather than later once they got their hands on it . We will see whether NZTR are now going to flex their muscle .
-
I'm sure he has and good on all that voted for keeping the track , the worry i see is the 40% of members that voted to hand the track over . That is much higher than i would have expected . When the club had to deal with the same issue 20 years ago i don't remember exactly the numbers but it was very small that voted to hand it over . The next move will be interesting .
-
I am surprised it was that close , obvious divide now , will the losing voters leave it at this ? hopefully , but it sounded like the president and vice are on the side of handing it over , is their position now untenable ? The ball is now in NZTR's court , it will be interesting to see if they have the heart for a legal battle knowing LRC have the finances to fight them .

Verry Elleegant kicks off her European campaign tonight.

I personally think she is a season if not 2 too late with this trip , i hope i'm wrong , didn't think the run was the worst , just didn't have a sprint but then she has travelled half way around the world so i would think they would leaving her with a lot of improvement , next race will tell more . -
YAWN !
-
Your putting far to much positive thought into this , please refrain .
-
Far toooo progressive .
-
Pleased for the owners and trainers of jumpers finally get a run .
-
Yeah whatever , you can assume but perhaps Walker had to re asses what and where he was going to run his horses when they chose not to split the race , the 2 unraced fillies he has in the 3yo fillies race weren't originally nom'd for it , fortunately it was kept open . As for plenty of 1200 mdns around , mostly on bog tracks or A/W , or a trip to Ruakaka , so good track options are thin . You'd be one of those that think all is well with NZ racing . As for an apology , i and many more in the industry are owed much more than that from NZTR .
-
They have now put them in an order of running , hadn't when i had my rant . It still doesn't detract from the fact that 13 young horses won't get a run , when these are the new crop and should be given every opportunity . Also i would suggest 2 mdn 1200 chock full of race form and strong trial form willbring far more betting interest than 2 staying mdn races who have had plenty of chances . The interesting thing will be how many of the Walker horses run against each other . I would have thought Te Akau would have been on to them to split the race .
-
And a question for anybody to answer , why don't they programme summer meetings at the A/W tracks for the horses that like them , what are they suppose to do , just like we used to have winter racing for the horses that like and needed wet tracks .
-
Well i and many others read it differently . Plus they seem to do it in Aus , xfering within a a few days , buggers up the fields tho . They still don't get it tho , the numbers tell the story , people want grass track trials and racing more than they do A/W , yet they are still forcing A/W down peoples throat , throwing money at The A/W races , haven't seen them do that at any other industry days . Like what i said earlier about not splitting a mdn 1200 full of young horses because they want to ensure some will race on Wednesday . The whole system is fundamentally flawed when they are trying corral racing where they want it .
-
Tongue in cheek , i live in that backwater . And looking at the state of the CD tracks at present it would be the best in the CD , hence why trainers like coming to the jumpouts .
-
No , the rhetoric we got from the start was that we wouldn't see meetings abandoned thru wet weather , well hello . Haven't seen one meeting that might have been threatened by adverse weather moved to an available A/W track either .
-
Well Huey , i can tell you they are not going to help owners . Taupo on Wednesday has 7 races programmed , only 7 , don't ask me why when at this time of year and the trial numbers show there is plenty of horses around to fill fields . Nom's out and they have the numbers to split 3 races , a R65 1300 ,a mdn 1800 and a mdn 1200 , but no they are only going to split 2 of them , they aren't going to split the 1200 mdn . What a fucken joke , and yes i am talking thru my pocket , i have one nom'd , won 2 trials and as it stands won't make the field . I hope someone from NZTR does read this because read this you fucken morons , this is why people are getting out of racing horses here . If you are going to split any race it's the mdn 1200 , these are the young horses of the future . Wake the fuck up and start serving the people who investing in this sport . This is a perfect example of them trying to manage things to suit themselves , they are trying to corral horses to the Cambridge meeting on Wednesday , not fucken on . Pissed off doesn't even start to cover my feelings at this shambles .
-
Taranaki OFF , with nothing about looking at moving it elsewhere tomorrow , just go Feck yourself owners . So we are yet to see one meeting saved by the A/W's in any jurisdiction .
-
From what i can see , numbers in the CD are historically low . The biggest stable would still be the Latta stable and it is not anywhere as big as it used to be . Everyone else is struggling for numbers or are retrenching for personnel reasons , most i have spoken to all say the same thing , struggling to find owners or can't get the track riders so can't have too many horses . The Awapuni A/W was always going to be tight on the bends , we will see with a bigger pool of results to look at exactly how it is going to play . I'll stick to what i said at the start , it will be a greyhound track .
-
Didn't go myself either , but it is a backwater and still haven't got the new edicts around track conditions . Knowing how wet it has been in the region i would be surprised if the track was only slow .
-
Cambridge A/W trials and races religiously run 2 1/2 to 3 seconds under evens , only 2 open heats just broke even . Ok it's the first time on it , but i would suggest they couldn't run the bend from the back straight at full tilt because it is just too tight , which always seemed the way it would be . I would only ever run a horse there if it was a real on pacer , even Cambridge lends itself to them . A larger pool of results will obviously give a bigger picture .
-
Hopefully it's Ayres rock .

Taranaki having an inspection at 9am tomorrow morning , with more information to come . I doubt if that information will be that they are xfered to another track , we don't effing have one . Perhaps the new A/W seeing as how it passed with flying colours today , fields will be reduced to 6 runners tho , good luck to the rest . After this inspection it will be onto Waverley's Sunday meeting . Jesus it's a shite fest .
-
Just watched all the trials , biggest field was 5 runners so hard to get a real understanding of how hard that home bend is going to be but it certainly looked tight , seen a few running on the inside rein , will be interesting when they get 10/12 runners . Home bend very tight so can't see too many coming around 4/5 wide to challenge , going to be a real on pacers track . I don't like any of them but thought visually this was the worst to watch , JMO
