  1. Just heard George Simon say " not the biggest crowd on course today " , well , well , well , 8 races ,2 x 10k mdns , 13 runners a piece , the other 6 races , 1 a listed race had a combined stake value of 192.500k , ave 32k . 49 runners between those 6 races , ave 8 per races , 3 of them actually only had 7 runners . Wonder what the cost / profit to the industry this day was ? As these fields were on average 8 per race the full stake payout would be less than the 192.5 k , so money saved . Is this the type of day the industry can no longer afford to sustain ? Is it adding value to the industry , not just a monetary value ? The listed race was yet again merely a 3yo 65 , just giving away black type IMO . Or because this is the ARC does the industry just has to suck it up ? I only raise these questions as these are the type of discussions and questions that as an industry we should be having . It seems to me that yet again we just follow the calendar we have been using because it is the calendar we have been using . I personally think it is time for a complete overhaul of our calendar . This is not a shit stirring post , these are serious questions , i believe we need all levels of racing but they need to work in the best interests of the whole industry , but IMO we need to be smarter in the way we spend our limited financial resources .
  2. Tesio , read what i said above , this is one industry so therefor the whole industry should should have been involved in the process . It turned into a shitfest when this didn't happen . If they continue to go down this path then look forward to more clubs acting like the one being discussed .
  3. It's a shame that this has become such a divisive topic , perhaps if it had been a process that was inclusive with clear consultation from all parties , and not the clumsy heavy handed , bully boy process that it became , the whole industry could have been moving forward as one . Now all we have is small clubs circling the wagons and trusting no one .
  4. They can push everything they want onto the codes , all that does is make their books look better , it's still all money that was or will go to he codes . Perhaps that is all they want to achieve , make themselves look like they are doing better . But at the end of the day doesn't matter how the pie is sliced up costs wise , the revenue they have made will be the same through a season whether they have the cost of broadcasting or not , if not they have more to throw at the codes to provide broadcasting .
  5. At the end of the day it all comes out of the same pool of cash , just be shown on different books . For me they are joined at the hip , always have been , therefor the TAB needs to understand exactly why they exist . This is where a strong racing minister steps in and tells them they are a " partnership " start working like it . He wont , exactly why a racing minister isn't relevant .
  6. Thought you would come back with that , the majority of the larger sports that they accept betting on and have a partnership with were in large part already getting TV coverage . My biggest beef with it all is that the TAB and NZ racing went hand in hand but now we are just their poor cousins . That very long term association should carry a massive amount of weight . We are after all fundamentally the industry they are funding with their profits , one of the reasons the codes should have a lot more say in the way the TAB is managed .
  7. If that is their long game then they should be careful they don't go screwing themselves . My argument would be , you are taking my money for a wager , it is your job to provide me with a forum on which to follow my money .
  8. To be fair it's not only an issue with the TAB , i no longer get to watch EPL or the NZ cricket team as our broadband is so weak , i'm 5 mins outside of town , and not the only one . I tried the 7 day free trial with Spark when they first got the football but after 30 mins of watching but seeing only about 6 mins of footy because of the amount of buffering i just gave up . Everybody wants you to use their products but very few provide the level of service that deserves your custom .
  9. 1st time i've seen the ad and have no problem with it , but you have to provide the service to back it up . I'm a simple win punter so don't have any real problems with the site for my simple use but obviously from hearing and reading the issues that others have had there are obvious problems . So simple message to the TAB management would be , get your house in order and you wont have to do these type of adverts . Not hard .
  10. Funny how so many people with a vested interest in a strong sale are coming out and promoting a reinvigorated racing industry , a strong self interest as prevalent as ever . Perhaps we should hope that Covid with its many travel restrictions hangs around for a couple of more seasons , we need the wave to keep rolling for as long as possible .
  11. Opie Bosson is appealing his double suspension from new years day which put him out till after the Karaka Millions meeting . His argument being that it is too severe because it covers so many big meetings where he would have G1 rides . Many say he is a protected species sometimes , i think part of the problem is the inconsistent officials . I agree with his argument tho , it's not like it covers a few average meetings , or was these taken into account when issued . Be interesting to see what happens .
  12. Just a thought , you've had a year to do this , why wait till 3 days out ? Have you been that busy on BOAY .
  13. Hope you guys have a great day on Thursday , the racing today at Greymouth was a great watch , so unique . Small clubs are the life blood of NZ racing , keep it up .
  14. The Kensington track in Sydney is a prime example , just like the night racing at MV and Canterbury . But they have the populations that fill that arena , but even then it is a small percentage of their horse population , but it give those horses that like it an outlet . As for development issues , the exercise in it's self will help those , but IMO too much forces a horse into an action the allows it to handle that surface that it may not be able to change when going onto grass , same issues arise when horses are worked solely left or right handed . I'm a firm believer that most issues around sound bone etc are created with poor diet as young horses i.e. older foals thru weanling and yearling stages . Seen many a young horse raised solely on grass as it's principle diet that has structural deficiencies , owners saying it was raised on good grass so should be enough .
  15. Looked like S Collett was hoping for a Moses moment , should have taken mare back to clear last and got to outside and improving before the 350 . Can't be giving Avantage that kind of start .
  16. There will be a few , jock reckoned it was G3 after 1 race .
  17. She drew 1 and done little in the running and had a race on a wet track a month ago , so had race fitness on her side and a soft run with cover . The disappointing runner for mine was the fav .
  18. has been off the boil today .
  19. They broke 1.09 and he motored thru the first 2 furlongs using a bit of gas , he was stepping up from an 800 trial and going against experienced race fit horses , had a lot going against him , and the betting drift showed the punters were of that mind . He had won on grass at Ruakaka a bit back so not like he didn't have grass experience . I think he's got serious ability , just a lack of fitness and working so hard early told in the end . They knew they were up against and were pulling the trigger to try and make the millions , they will back off and go again . Will make a lovely 3yo .
  20. They wont get punters to do it for sentimental reasons .
  21. Try running at the beach , then on the grass , you use your legs completely different , same with horses , i am giving A/W trials no consideration when studying form , there will be the odd one buck the odds but not many . Wait till they start racing on A/W's and horses start going no good on it , they will start to struggle to get the numbers . We haven't got the population . Very few dirt track stallions have made an impact in the southern hemisphere , for a reason .
  22. When she can say that , yet is lengths better than the rest in the CD , what does that say for the rest . She is right in front of them as their role model yet most don't see what makes her tick and try and emulate . Saying that she is way better than she gives herself credit for .
  23. There used to be plenty of them , Lisa is great to deal with , always professional , and always gives you a straight up opinion .
  24. I think if you go back and look you'll find a lot of the 2yo's they have aimed for it haven't gone on afterwards .
  25. All good , i'll make hay while the sun shines , although it has pissed down here most of the day . Merry Xmas to all , and plenty of winners for everybody .
