Just watched Thornley being interviewed on FB, says best chance is Neyveli Franco but only on best behaviour so that suggest more talented than Texas Tara but a bit of a nut job!! Will you punt on your selections Happy? Trying to work out my bets now for the day and cos I'm a value/ place type of punter looking at only 3 of my 12 selections will bet any $$$. Will the inside be better later due to the grass being trampled all day or fresh grass out wide be the go.

No fixed odds yet in NSW 2 hours out from race 1, I'd say all they do is mirror the NZ TAB. If someone has time can they post the odds for Foreigner in R10 and Duastar R12. Cheers

CP, I watched a few trials from the weekend- great caller by the way !!!! In my opinion tha grass looked super long/thick, and the inside was saved mostly. Will the grass be cut a lot lower ? And will the inside be favoured in the earlier races? then start to make ground out wide later in the day.

I have no doubt he will get suspended just cos he's a lesser light average Joe, yes it was a bad drive but he's an average driver so surely it was a standard drive...... if that was a trainer/driver say Brad Williamson all you've got to say is the horse worked well during the week, was pulling a touch after 400 metres I thought if i got cover behind the leader he would pull more and my best chance of him relaxing was to sit parked then say I was happy with the run, finished 9 lengths from the winner in the fastest time the horse has run. A reputable driver would get away with that drive with whatever BS they want to spin to the stewards. What's worse that drive from Dennis or a $2 favourite sitting last and flying home for 4th after never been put in the race ?

Hope you did Roman . Thanks to you I noticed this horse and ran an underrated race last week. My only bet for the day was a sneaky place multi on Arnie $7/Rake$2/Deja Blue$3. Didn't think he was a winning chance but going by last week and today he likes a fast pace on. A watch today on Foreigner who went ok in an unsuitable sprint mobile after a decent trial will hopefully line up next week at Methven, will also watch "Call This Fun" in R9 for Methven and Banks Peninsula.

Interesting Brodie now all 48 starts are from the mobile, not a single standing start and going by HRNZ he's unruly from a stand.... must have really butchered the only 2 trials he had from a stand -other than yesterday. Going to be huge fields next Sunday, gunna even be hard for the Spitfire to get a start, you'd think with his form will be balloted out.

If this is common knowledge why can't names be used? I don't see the point of posts like this unless we can discuss actual people.... I'm going to assume Mrs C Dalgety is the licence holder whom can't gear up a horse but I could be wrong.

More reason to look forward to Methven next week, huge turn out at the trials tomorrow on the grass.

Was gone at the 400 I thought so I focused on time in a bottle .... Matty sprinted early but geez Midnight Dash has got some motor, lost 50m at the start too.

Here you only bet fixed odds on NZ trots, I've seen the prices open in the morning and most horses prices don't even change within a 4 hour time frame before the race starts... some of those races at Timaru today had $15k + in the win pool and healthy exotics too.

I wish, I'm 1 of 3 million stood down workers on Job Keeper here. That last trot race had $800 in the win pool here which is pathetic and race 2 $2600. Too many short price favourites for my betting style tonight but probably good for fixed odds turnover, any time I see 3/4 horses paying under $6 I don't bother betting. Nice win for Ultimate Stride, good hit out in a quick time from the stand.

Especially in Victoria, 1 meeting daily and sometimes two but more importantly shorter distances of races which encourages the longevity of horses... they don't flog horses on a weekly bases over 2600m mobile starts like we used to a few years back. I look at Robbie Royale again as an example, been racing here since March, lightly raced but has won $39k in 11 starts with 7 of those starts being races with $20k prize money yet still hasn't even raced v the good trotters.

Surely more than that, these Aussie owners will potentially race him 20 plus times a year for 2 or 3 years.

Brodie, any idea of a ball park figure how much an average nag like Vigoroso would sell for? And how much does the flight cost- I've heard $10k. Robbie Royale is in Melbourne too, was a solid mid grade trotter on the up you'd think would sell for $50k plus but I have no idea. He's paid $1.04 three times and $1.40 the other and $16k in prize money.

Good work from Mardy today, some very strange races and questionable drives today ( yes you Sam in the last) , like others can't wait for Methven, Oamaru and Banks Peninsula all in September. A 3.15 time run today from a standing start maiden race was absolutely crazy, Arnies Army actually went quite well, struggled to find his gait the first 200m and I'd be happy to back again, races were either run super fast or walk/sprint. Most of us punters have out own systems or style of betting we like but you must question how on earth some horses are backed into favouritism etc, He's Fast And Furious 1/1 in the betting, zero wins from 24 standing starts and and only 5 placings yet sent out fav over 2000m stand.... did run on nicely from well back but surely not a winning chance in that race.

Geez lads nothing getting me excited with these fields, some average horses paying terribly short place prices, so no multi's today but Roman might be onto something with Arnies Army, can't recall Ricky driving for Purvis before but garbage field, you're getting $8 for the place for a reason, no standing starts in its 4 races, 4 trials or 1 workout... sometimes you've got to trust a trainer so a small investment on the place is a good risk. Place bets: Smudgee $5 draw will either cause a gallop or a gain a soft run Champagneandwine $4.80 good stand start horse off a 2 week break Minnelli Smile $7 can run ok, drawn 2 on second row after scratchings hopefully Sam can weave some magic for her mum, toss up between it and Spicy Girl Becqui $4.20.

Sprint home and backed in fo $1.65 here in NSW

What's better value, Minstrel $1.70 win price or Franco Niven $2 place price...
