  1. Do I take it that you are not a kiwi and don't actually live here hence your non-attendance?
  2. Again ad nauseum Those two races do more to promote NZ racing than virtually anything else. Focus on the positives not the negative.
  3. Are you serious. There is a host of races sponsored by Breeders along with a host of horses raced by them also.
  4. Why aren't you going along instead of leaving it to others? Should be right up your alley where you can take them on face to face.
  5. My argument is about the two Karaka Million races which you brought up, not the industry overall. You are moaning about two races when there are well over 4000 races run each year. Whether you like it or not those two races attract a huge amount of media attention both within racing and non-racing media within NZ and abroad. Interest in that night is huge as evident by attendance and turnover. I know for a fact that Tommy had two aimed for the 2yo race and three for the 3yo. In the finish one lined up in the 2yo and two in the 3yo. He is not the only one looking for a return on investment. Answer this. If you buy a horse at Karaka will you be boycotting the Karaka Million races given your view.
  6. Funny you make mention of Tommy. He races horses in both of the Karaka Millions races.
  7. 2 races that create more media and public interest together with huge turnover than most other meetings in NZ. FYI. NZTR stump up a total of $3,830,000 for the 14 Iconic races with clubs adding $2,700,000.
  8. Don't kid yourself, you don't pay anything for me. You want to spread the moolah around and race for small stakes. isn't this the reason you are talking about sending your horses North and flying them to Australia to race in the bush.
  9. The short answer is Yes!! The six race card has become the showpiece of NZ racing. Both attendance and turnover just keeps on growing.
  10. I went up to the Karaka Millions night this year and I would say it was the best race meeting by a mile that I have attended for a number of years. It is a great concept that has absolutely worked.
  11. Well the NZTR funding of various races is all there on the website under Final Funding Policy 3. Iconic Race Funding which took seconds to find. With regard to the 2yo and 3yo Karaka Million races they are identical: $50K minimum stake funding (Listed) plus and additional $200k making it $250k for each race. The club has to come up with $750k.
  12. That's not new. Race Form included trackwork previously.
  13. You are the one who doesn't get it. If they hadn't put on another race there would be no other horses going around at all ie at home looking at four walls. At least there is an opportunity to race. They don't have to take it do they.
  14. No because the Actual race was advertised for $22.5k
  15. The two races that were advertised for Hawera ie the R65 1400m & R65 1600m are both racing for the advertised stake ie $22.500. Had they just left it at those two races then the ones that missed out making the field would be staying at home in their boxes and earning zilch and nobody wins. By adding the two additional races at $10,000 it at least allows them to run for some stake money and also earn the opportunity to earn some extra rating points to help them gain a start next time. Both $10k races are at capacity so it would appear the stake is no deterrent and they are happy to go around. There have been 4 extra races added to the programme when you add in two further maiden1300m races with stakes also at $10k each. That is an extra $40k in stake money going to owners, trainers and jockeys, not a bad result I would have thought.
  16. I was talking with Andre at Awapuni. Racing This Time is Andre's own venture and nothing to do with the TAB.
  17. Come in Curious. Isn't this your local club.
  18. Never did get an answer to this. Does anyone know when the last meeting was held there and why they are not currently racing?
  19. 2 to 3 months is my pick.
  20. When was the last time Foxton had a race meeting?
  21. Whanganui proved yet again when looking at the meeting two weeks ago and today that inside draws on a heavy track there are worthless. There were 23 races run over the two meetings and only one horse drawn inside barrier 5 managed to win and that horse managed to get to the fast lane down the outside fence. Guess who will be laughing his socks off.
  22. • NZTR and RITA are working with Raceform on the supply of racing information including preview and review comments with intention to have the Raceform publication back in the marketplace on 1 August • In addition, NZTR is developing a punters hub on LoveRacing.nz which will be powered by Raceform and include live and trial vision and a PDF copy of the weekly Raceform publication.

  24. 26 June 2020 Dear Clubs, Fibre Connectivity at Race Tracks We have recently fielded queries from some clubs regarding the installation of fibre connectivity. This has stemmed from the announcement that the meetings during the resumption of racing period in June and July would be limited to fibre connected tracks. This meant ALL satellite costs for that month could be avoided. Where confusion has arisen is that the type of connection found in domestic or business premises, is not the fibre connection utilised on race day. RITA works with its network partner (Vocus) to regularly review businesses cases at individual venues and determine whether it makes commercial sense to transition linking from satellite to fibre. The responsibility for fibre linking, and satellite linking costs and logistics at those venues without fibre connectivity, lies with RITA. Clubs therefore do not need to do anything regarding fibre connectivity themselves. If you require further information please contact Mary.Burgess@nztr.co.nz Regards Bernard Saundry
