  1. But if humans can't travel between islands then that becomes a different issue. If horses are able to travel thereby negating your reasoning for cancelling the Guineas races then you shouldn't have a problem with them being raced in the North Island this season.
  2. Both Karaka Million races are Listed and classified as black type on the pedigree page.
  3. Well they are already black type (Listed races) and agree they shouldn't be Group races. Unless horses can be transported then racing probably won't be able to go ahead anyway. As I stated horses can't get Covid - 19 therefore there shouldn't be a problem travelling them between islands. Restrictions will more probably be on humans travelling etc.
  4. Normal is bugger all South Island horses lining up in the Guineas races and hence why there has already been a call by a number of people to shift those races North anyway but that is another topic. You seem opposed because of tradition and the fact that you like to attend Cup Week. Do you think Cup week will be open to the public to attended in November?
  5. Horses don't transmit Covid - 19 hence they are move as in Australia. At least bringing the races North means far less a number to transport anyway. If horses can't cross the strait by November then we really are in virus trouble.
  6. Planning has to be in place for at least the next six months. To me it is common sense to bring both Guineas to the North Island this season. As I have mentioned previously both races for many years have been dominated by North Island horses both in terms of numbers and winners. In the last 20 years 1 South Island runner has won the 1000 Guineas, The Jewel in 2002 and the 2000 Guineas, ditto, 1 South Island runner, Hustler also in 2002. Many of you advocate having racing close to where the horse population is based so in terms of both Guineas races that is without doubt clearly in the North Island. As Freda has succinctly pointed out the South haven't really supported the races as such anyway. Having had a busy working week I have just caught up on reading that other site and notice two, Mardy & Mardigras (hmm) both advocate cancelling both races this season altogether. Crazy!!! Bringing them North is completely workable providing the top 3yos G1 opportunities. Just as a matter of interest how many G1 races are run in the South Island?
  7. Under the current circumstances it is a no brainer to transfer both Guineas to the North. Jockeys can't ride in both islands. Quickly looking at the last two years bugger all South Island horses line up in either race anyway. 2000 Guineas 2019 4 of 11 2018 1 of 13 1000 Guineas 2019 3 of 16 2018 3 of 13
  8. As I do my punting in cash and with racing on-course in NZ shut down and TAB outlets closed I took a few tickets in the BGP just for interest and a bit of fun as something to listen to whilst making deliveries etc. The three selectors were Luke, the Goat and Neil Davis from Formpro? Would I go in again. I would probably say yes just for the entertainment factor of it all. Certainly seems to create plenty of interest which can't be a bad thing.
  9. Not an isolated thing TFC. That's why you should bet in cash either at TABs or on-course rather than through an account.
  10. $32 - $36 for a 20kg bag depending where you buy it.
  11. Get your butt in here Thomas. People are in lock down. Some robust discussion and humour is required to create some interest. Can't be on here much at the moment as horse people all over the country are panic buying Lucerne chaff so working my arse off. At least I can get out and about. Some benefits of being involved in a primary industry.
  12. Will they have to put signs up advising horses that they cannot gallop around their paddocks now.
  13. As from tomorrow no NZ racing for the next four weeks. ?
  14. At least we are still racing but going to miss the atmosphere. Last week at Trentham:
  15. It is a photo of a grey horse wearing blinkers and male jockey with red and yellow colours returning to scale and was taken at Trentham in the summer. There is also another horse returning to scale on the right hand side of the photo.
  16. On the basis of what has been announced today (no gathering of 500 or more people) It seems if meetings are going ahead then they will be meetings run without the public, owners etc. If a jockey tests positive to the virus then I assume that all jockeys will have to self - isolate which will mean no racing at all. It would make sense to me to isolate jockeys to their respective North island / South Island bases and stop jockeys riding in both islands. That way you would have two separate pools of riders and if one group has a positive the other group could still race rather than shutting down the whole country. .
  17. I thought you lived further South Hope Village in the South Island Hope, previously known as Ranzau, is a small settlement south of Nelson, New Zealand, between Richmond and Wakefield.
  18. Probably that bloke Hesi popping over every 5 minutes to see what is happening.
  19. Exactly, love him or loathe him Thomas certainly attracts people here and he creates many subjects for discourse. For that reason alone he is a pivotal character providing much content and debate. This site is all the poorer without his contribution.
  20. I think that the last runner they lined up in an Auckland Cup was Minqar Qaim in the 2010 Auckland Cup when Mark Walker was here training.
  21. I stand by my thoughts that it was a sub standard performance by Catalyst last Saturday. You feel differently. matter closed.
  22. You stated it was Catalysts best performance at 1600m based on what he run in the Guineas. I am merely pointing out that it was also Alligator Bloods best performance also. FYI I don't compare times on different tracks to performances as tracks are not the same. Ellerslie is completely different to Trentham for example. They run a lot quicker over 1200m at Trentham than Ellerslie due to contour and other factors. The Railway and Telegraph times illustrate that perfectly.
  23. And neither had Alligator Blood, in fact Alligator Blood was beaten at his other start at 1600m with the winner running 1:36:44 on a good 3 with both horses stretched (last 600 35.22) and Lordy Lordy the time was actually slower than what Catalyst ran when easily winning the 2000 Guineas 1:36:07. last 600 in 32:16 by two and a quarter lengths.
  24. You duck and weave faster than Ali and you have more spin that Shane Warne Add in the Einstein factor and your modesty you really are the perfect human being. All us mere mortals should bow in deference and awe. To have winners after the event is what we strive for isn't it, as you can't have an actual winner until the event has been run. My racing account balance would say I get it right pretty often and that's all that concern's me. I don't give a toss about anyone else's pocket. I don't have a lot of bets as previously advised and nor are they small bets either, so I have to get it pretty much right and things are rolling along nicely thank you. Must be my four leaf clover.
  25. Having second thoughts now are we after you posted on the other site "His run wasn't that bad on Saturday. Just not up to it on the day." You are now agreeing it was a fair bit below his best. Hallelujah!!
