Well if you had read what was posted earlier then you would realise that it is was not a guess. Report post Posted 19 hours ago The point is Curious that the ARC flatly refused to engage in any discussions whatsoever of any merger etc. Merely have dug their toes in the stand and be in complete denial. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/racing/113650896/the-punters-of-avondale-racecourse-are-gearing-up-for-a-fight-for-survival This model is being recommended around the country, with tracks like Manawatu's Awapuni and Canterbury's Riccarton set to inherit the racedays of nearby condemned courses. The Waipa Racing Club, the Waikato Racing Club and the Cambridge Jockey Club are considering a merger that would make their respective three tracks – in Te Awamutu, Hamilton's Te Rapa, and Cambridge – obsolete. Saundry encourages the collaboration: "Racing clubs are not competitors," he says. "We've got enough competition for the disposable dollar from the casino, a golf club membership, or an overseas trip." But the AJC has shunned invitations to meet with its Auckland brethren, Ellerslie's Auckland Racing Club (ARC) and Pukekohe's Counties Racing Club (CRC), to discuss their collective future, says ARC's president Paul Wilcox. He accuses the Westies of parochialism. "We're saying 'let's get together and work as a group for the betterment of the industry as a whole', but it seems like Avondale's not wanting to come to the table."

Of course it their right not to engage at all but it shows a distinct lack of business acumen to not even look at or consider any options. A group discussion may well have provided them with ideas/options to discuss that their singular committee may not have thought of. Surely it wouldn't have hurt to sit and down and discuss with all involved instead of cutting your nose off to spite your face. Look where they are now.

Incorrect. Avondale have refused to engage in any dialogue about merging with Auckland and/or Counties which was put to them following the Messara Report in July 2018.

The Messara report recommended Avondale's closure for the 2020/21. So they can't have been unaware of this.

With what has happened in the past 48 hours or so with TAB retrenching will they still be having personality features like highlighted in the link below. One of my workmates showed me these today that were done in the last week or so. Had to play Sam Wynne's one twice to get the full gist. One strong accent. ? https://www.tab.co.nz/punters/trackside/videos/isolation-interviews-update

Tote windows on-course will be going being replaced with self service terminals or digital betting only. Closure of some retail agencies. TV will have fewer presenters with no dedicated racing shows with the exception of a no frills betting show for weekend racing. No phonebet channels. If I understand Winston correctly it looks as if they will introduce to ring fence and stop betting with overseas agencies. ( can someone give Mardigras aka Kim a lift to the airport. ? -

Greg Where is the logic in removing racing from radio? This is just another example of racing shooting itself in the foot. Loss of Freeview, newspaper coverage and now radio. Doesn't the industry want to engage with the public or want to promote racing in order to attract people? -

They may be cutting the workforce by 30% but it won't be a 30% cut in wage costs. You can bet the small fish will be let go instead of a lot of those on the bigger salaries. The word is Trackside Radio which has shut down won't be coming back on air. Yet another avenue of promotion taken away and more distancing from the public. Hopefully the word is wrong as many of us who do a lot of driving do enjoy having the radio on Trackside. -
Was talking with a work mate what would happen if they close Tab agencies/ pub outlets and just bet on line. He reckons it would be a further reduction in betting as some just won't be bothered to bet that way. He did make the point that if indeed that happens it could well mean a re-appearance of the pub bookie setting up and providing a service. Which he said would be ironic as the TAB was originally set up to put illegal bookies out of business.
