  1. Hang on, what am I watching? Bosson having had the run of the race lets Camino Rocoso go around him and whoa he's snookered, his momentum is not stopped but slowed, then he has to come around that horse heels, meanwhile Vinne Colgan see's what's happening and being the good rider he is puts his horses shoulder into MB when OP tries to push out..she wasn't going well enough to shoulder her way out, then Bosson overdoes it to make it look like he's been hard done by...academy award job that...
  2. A slight laceration? You know what would have happened here Chief? ordered to trial to the satisfaction of the stewards and/or trainer requested to follow up and report back, when a 1-30 pop gets beaten that's what happens, it's not a Spanish inquisition it's called transparency.
  3. You're right, if the mares was travelling so well when he had the coveted one one he should have been half carting at the 1000m and pushed the other horse 4 wide and made his run, he wouldn't have been boxed in, she wasn't going that well to do it notwithstanding the poor ride from Bosson.
  4. That's not the point though, Horace is spot on, it's called transparency Chief, how much was the tote holding on that mare? the racing police should have gone over that mare with a fine tooth comb and taken all swabs....so the public have faith that it's all fair and above board..Opie was outridden no doubt, twice! but Horace's point is valid..totally.
  5. They would pick up the same Chief, you would hope, what it does do, massively is to deter needling Raceday, the fear of a 'lump' or blood on the jugular would raise concerns, we have had a few recently taken out before racing as they were treated within the one clear day rule..do you have the same rules in NZ? Bi Carb levels are announced in the RIU for standard breds I see and they do great testing, but not the thoroughbreds...I scratch my head with that.
  6. Of course not every horse, race, state, random testing and aimed at horses firm in the market and big shorteners.
  7. I'm 2000km away, however, those on the ground know absolutely when there is pre-race testing Chief, you're not that naive are you...I don't really think you are..if so, you wouldn't last 5 min here. And I do recall an interview with a leading Kiwi trainer whilst he was over in Oz, "we have to behave ourselves here"..that comment raised eyebrows over here.was he being facetious or a Freudian slip of the tongue. I do know without question that CD trainers have been known to scratch horses from trials when it was leaked there would be TC02 testing at the trials. Trainers in Oz that have served long stretches have been picked up by pre race testing.on race day. Ive seen horses at the races in NZ with haematomas that were obviously race day administration, but as usual nothing was done, and no way I was going to be a whistleblower, we all know what happens to whistleblowers...
  8. I think you maybe one out on this Chief, talking to a few trainers yesterday here and all of them were gobsmacked that most meetings in NZ go by without pre-race testing. I'm not the punter I was, age has caught up with me, and wisdom, but no way we would bet large on races where they could be milk shaking FFS...and the old bi-carb has many uses, not only does it assist with tummy aches and makes your silverware shine like a babies bum, it masks other illicit and illegal pain killers and go fasts....it has done since God's dog took a dump outside Adam and Eve's bungalow. Read the stipes report from the meetings here yesterday and look at how many pre-race tests conducted...
  9. Please explain? Were you pissed when you wrote this? has Tom hacked your computer?
  10. Oh ye gods, they pre-race tested today, congratulations! For a while only you have rejoined the 1st world racing fraternity, I hope you find the funds to continue this practice and regain the trust and confidence of the punting, owners and trainers collective.
  11. Any pre-race testing today at Waikato's big day with Gr racing galore? Or as per their statement way back, 'we don't have the funds' ?
  12. Craig Williams and Kerrin McEvoy love their brolly's....many of the Syd jocks walk the straight, Kathy O'Hara I've seen, not so much up in QLD...I read a story whereby an activist organisation flew a drone over the track and dropped 6'' nails!!! then advised the stewards, the races were abandoned, however, what happens the day they do that and don't call the track/press? horrific thought? absolutely, plausible? you betcha...should be mandatory track inspections, saves lives and law suits.
  13. Doesn't Royalty inhabit Matamata? How could such an incident eventuate in the presence of Royalty? On second thoughts, the famous or infamous troughs debacle took place nearby so anythings possible. Can anyone tell me though, your thoughts not withstanding Chief, is there pre racing track inspections over there? the entire track I mean, not just walking distance from the stewards/jockeys room...what if some bastard dropped a concrete slab near the fence in the back straight or deliberately laid spikes across the track? 95% chance it would never happen, but surely it's the right thing to do?
  14. What happened to a pre-racing inspection? doesn't matter what the peno says, that slippery section had to have been there before racing began, surely...what if some arsehole had of dug a trench? an activist, god forbid, before every Raceday there should be an inspection of the racing surface, every track, everywhere...for man and beast sake...we do it before track work everyday nowadays, I bowled a sheep over galloping one morning at Hawera, from that day on, the track manager drove around checking the fence etc....they do it everyday at Flemington and The Goldie, so I suppose and hope it's done not only before track work, but before the first.
  15. Christ almighty, what have you poor buggers done wrong? Wellington's next Lord Mayor? Poor Kate Goodrich, she'll be broken hearted.
  16. Bugger the gimmick TC, you need to breed a new culture into society, the pokies have destroyed the place, if you have pokies you must allow bookmakers, they have been synonymous with racing since gallops began on the Newmarket Heath and sweepstakes were de rigueur! NZ misses out on so much, most, [the majority] of Kiwi's that visit Oz and have an on-course experience with a satchel swinger enjoy it, there are still plenty about, and I just can't imagine Oz ever going Tote only like France...Japan is too, however with crowds approaching K100 most Saturday big meetings, their tote turnover is unreal as is Hong Kong's. The blackmarket or underground bookmaker is incalculable in HK, you couldn't put a figure on their turnover, and most triads are into that, if they made it legal, well, it's state run like NZ so until NZTAB is privatised ...SFA revenue, can you imagine the increase in revenue back to the industry if there were say, 100 licensed and regulated bookies in NZ? .... They used to have bookies in NZ betting on athletics and bike races at Cooks Gardens in Wanganui back in the early 30's according to my old man, massive crowds on Fri night and great atmosphere and entertainment....broken record as I am, it could be saved, it just needs a will.
  17. I don't know TC, last time I was there they shut the cafe, no pies, queues a mile long for everything. The boot parties were terrific though, if you make your own fun its brilliant.....just imagine if they had bookies concourse, how good would that be.......fantasy land, the turnover from the bookmakers would fund 20k maidens and an extra race or two........can't have that can we......FFS the business model is starring them in the face, but they are salarymen and will be all their lives, risk averse......and sitting pat.
  18. They used to, a bloke and a water truck......but they used to have common sense too, maybe that was knocked out of them by morons on Jackson?
  19. The fish rots from the head Chief, I bet the hospo tents are bulging with backslappers from Petone discussing horse welfare issues, NOT!
  20. Having a look at the babies cantering to the start at Tau today, what a bloody disgrace, it's resembling Le Mans, or Sandown super cars, bitumen and concrete, it's a recipe for breakdowns, and this crap is sanctioned by Petone......hang your heads in shame suits.
  21. Would there be anywhere else in the world where the Government has bailed out the racing industry. I asked my friend and former business partner based in Buenos Aires would this happen in Latin/South America, definitely not he said, he asked his friend and owner based in Miami USA......he just laughed, they both mentioned mainstream media would be all over it and the general populace wouldn't stand for it, he continued, ''but it's NZ and it's run by Aussies'', oh god that's a worry.
  22. Stop it, you're making sense and that's just not on. Newmarket nights, they do it in summer at that halcyon track, big name acts too, they pull brilliant crowds and like Chch it's doesn't get dark until late, so a win win........why not give them a call Tim, oh that's right you don't call anyone for advice, you should, it just might be a wonderful shot in the arm for an ailing industry.
  23. How good was Nathan Guy? Should have been given a knighthood, The keys to Otaki? A one way ticket to Outer Mongolia? Yep, economy too.......
  24. Stand by, I'll send you the pic of the watermelon, NW Devonport.......north shore elite prices, you plebs get a discount!
  25. Hatrick?
