  1. 2 wins , and a head 2nd for Carter tonight from 5 drives at Addington. good strike rate. Brodster on the money again. Blair had 7 drives and won once, . Beating Carter by a head in the last race with the Dalgety stable-mate. Lucky then Carter gave him (Orange) the better horse to drive ? 😂 and is doing well training them too (with Cran and the team) Blair and that Ken Barron team don't do that well really for some reason?
  2. The reason is = You want to win the race. Horses would be pulling up all over the place without there cue to perform. Never drove a race without one, and would of won sum Total of ZERO races if didn't carry a whip to get your horses focus on getting to the line first. That's a pretty Solid, Good Reason. win the race / lol.😂 Here's our boy mark Purdon with some brilliant whip work as usual by the Grand Master, he gets this Star of the track to victory at his very first start. Anyone Pick Who it is ? Ranga would get it straight up (but maybe not the 2nd horse 🤔 ? victory at last ? and without a whip lol 😉)
  3. What a great kiwi harness man Greg is . never been a more polite fellow ever at the track. and knowledgeable to the extreme. And Zachary did a great job with that one-on-one (and his race driving too) The 2 horses he has photos of are still racing in Oz !!!!! Zeuss Bromac , was Zac's first winner as a trainer in NZ (has been now 5 years over in NSW) hadn't won for a year , but won his last start here in April at Newcastle. Lord Zarias, raced by Zac', and his nan won 6 there for him, and plowed around Albion Park here in Brissy for 15 starts last year (for 3 wins) and now these days the slow tracks of South Australia are his home this year , where he also won his last start in April, a listed $30k classic. 2 horses that always tried/try hard. great job working with them Zac !! (he seriously should train some more ? )
  4. should be able to pluck something out of this to help Aaron with getting 'Zac' on his Hit list ? probably 'Sky Major' was his stepping stone by the look of this Greg interview , so he could be the ''Major'. always a major player anyway 😁
  5. The Poo-man takes the 4th race 😆, after the Ice-man took out the 2nd race. What are we gunna give Zac Butcher ? he's a senior driver and needs an Avatar? Does he have one already? Good to see old ''Jolly Roger'' (the thoroughbred pirate) training the first race winner too, without 'Fergie' hanging around.
  6. The Big races begin for a month at the Constellations carnival.🌞 Starting at Redcliffe this week. Simply Sam favourite for the $106,000 Redcliffe Cup ? How 😳 ? Only won one race last year in NZ from 26 starts, and one race in Oz by a nose back in April. Surely a Top horse like old Auckland Cup Winner TURN IT UP will eat him up🏆 . It's even off 10m behind on level terms? . (Turn It Up has won near 30 races in Brisbane and should kick his backside. Grimson Apprentice 'Grima' with the ''Boat race horse from Auckland that time in Classy Operator. Has had a bit of Go-Go juice lately so could be hard to beat . Nathan Purdon having a crack too with MAJOR HOT in the Redcliffe Derby and TREACHEROUS LOVE in the Redcliffe Oaks . Chance to win both of those for NZ all going well. 7. The truth is Chief , a lot of horses like to run, but they don't particularly like to 'race' . horses are a herd animal and love to Run Togeather. as do most herd animals around the world. You are absolutely right that the blinkers will stop the horse seeing the other until very late. Alongside almost. You hope that your horse will engage it in a duel at this stage to run with it , and stay just ahead of it in the drive to the Wire. The driver has done a great job in this photo to apply that formula , and Also note the Great Whip action prompt work that has enabled him to take Victory !! (bummer, sorry that good photo wouldn't copy so have put another one here instead )
  8. Yeah but you don't like blinkers, blinds deafeners, burrs, any of the stuff that has been tried and proven by some of the best horse people on the planet (Aus and NZ thoroughbred and Standardbred) over many decades. I see deafeners and hoods used quite extensively on Addington videos these days. I would of driven with deafeners one in ten ( when pulled a sure fire 'signal' to the horse to put-in run home or last quarter) Possibly used one in 3 or so runners now? Whips are held in a rein hand . Not a hope in the world of 'hurting with pain ' a 500kg animal with a big bum with a little swish whip these days. Brodie on the money. just a 'Cue' to the horse to put in Chief. and believe me . The horses need a 'Cue'. or they'd just pull up . They love to run , but would only do it on their terms if given the choice . Drivers need 'All the help they can get' to try and keep all these blasted 'punters' happy and win the race lol. Likely 'pain scenario' as described by Curious is just rubbish. It would be zero. Their legs would hurt more from thundering along on the hard track than anything on their poor big bum lol.
  9. still under the whip 41 years later . at BOAY for past while instead of Alexandra Park nowadays. 😂 getting a flogging lol. Nah , you can make a horse ,sheep, cow, duck ,dog , neighbour, the missus, anyone at all really move a bit quicker if you use the swish whip correctly. You guys forget it's a prompt mainly, and used as a 'cue to move faster' . Watch some buggy and wagon driving on the Net and see some good action. you are actually 'keeping the horses attention' as the priority, no-ones hurting the poor Buggers . they love strutting their stuff. 'Curious' is should be re-labelled 'Confused' if he thinks a whip drive doesn't make them go faster than without. what does he think the drivers are carrying them for then ? To wave to the crowd in a victory salute at the winning post ? 🤣 (Lucky Dr Chin didn't try that lol 😅)
  10. Maybe we should get Dr Luk Chin to drive Swayzee then Chief ? That young Jack Callaghan driving Swayzee the hot favourite at $1.18, pulled off the same result getting run down by the stable-mate. Just Like the good Dr at Cambridge. Bit more conspiracy to keep us on our toes 🤣😂 The commentator was even saying " What is happening here?" as they crossed the line last night lol. he can see something is up mate. 😅 gotta luv the trots. 😁💰👍
  11. District Attorney lost form Chief and was not going as well this year though. 4 unplaced runs this year and a 2nd. Now jumps out of the ground, (After Working hard out of gate too ?? ) and runs down the Vic Cup, Miracle Mile, Interdominion winner going for 15 straight wins ???? Spose Swayzee , who had Zero form for 10 starts midweek , suddenly beat Mark Purdon in a NZ Cup is 2% + improvement . you gotta ask questions about Boncel Beknjamen and I cast No Shadow both winning the Interdominion recent years. At least Leap To Fame won the last Interdominon from Auckland Cup winner Better Eclipse, (Swayzee 3rd) to stop the rot . lol. 😁😂 A bit more to it than potions, there is happening . there is an interesting theory ,but being a theory we won't rumour-monger it. Stewards locked them up and investigated 2 years ago , with knowing something was up, but found nothing at the retention barn. so all good . might as well roll with the better shoeing and that lol. 😊🙃 yeah the Grimson machine does pick up nice horses too, (like Frankie Ferocious from QLD) who was winner of 10 from 20 here and will probably win the $1,000,000 Eureka for the GRIM one in September. Frankie has a kind old QLD bloke owner so will be nice to see for him anyway.
  12. After last years dominant SWAYZEE success over Akuta, he's bound to bring something over again. can only Hope he doesn't take 2 over this time. With Top horse Akuta out of action , who have you got to fire up and hold him out Nowie ?
  13. The Grimson Miracle continues .🙄 Picks up a horse from Victoria who has not won down there this year in 5 starts. Promptly wins the Group 3's of Treur Memorial at Bankstown and just now tonight the Redcliffe Patrons purse $50k G3, running down the Interdominion Champion LEAP TO FAME by a head, in a nippy 54 second last half. They were 6 lengths clear of the 3rd horse (trained/driven by the Grimson accomplice Grima.) DISTRICT ATTORNEY (that no-one had heard of much) now a 'Leap To Fame beater' 🙄. That Grimson Miracle guy should take up thoroughbreds , probably win there too. 😎
  14. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. He was flat out at the 200m and the winner came from last turning for home so he would of only seen it late. Looked zero chance at the quarter of being in the finish. even surprised the lass driving it, I think. How about them being full brothers too.!! A nose between them at the end. quite unique. BARZUKOV (4) and MAZEPPA (6 yearold) both by Love You out of Sundon mare Barsukova. What a fantastic quinella.
  15. Well Chief definitely does that mate. he's invested in this site that has put forward many great stories, experiences and ideas which people can take on-board (or Not 😁) and there has been plenty of knowledge to be gained as well. about the current racing events and plenty of thoughts on tracks, jockeys , even some recipes for (for horses), traffic conditions on the track and even a bit of horse-play here and there. There is always optimists amid the pessimists 😄. sometimes I think the criticism is harsh but when you watch the Political Parties in Parliament battling it out , you can see even the' runners of the country' set the example for these things lol. .. shame about Ellerslie, would of been great to have it up and running . That might have helped the racing situation improve ?. They had some awful trouble getting Eagle Farm right as well in Brissy. Re-did it 3 times I think over about 4 years. Just a thankless Job trying to develop a race track 🤕
  16. Ranga doesn't drive far from home 😉
  17. no joke but The GOAT has won this week 😆 and is set for many more wins.😆 Rickie Alchin is training the GOAT and has won easily , trotting away from the field in an impressive display. You might remember Rickie in NZ over recent years with Tough Monarch on occasion. Tough Monarch winning the Nz Trotting FFA , and placing in the Dominion, etc, and finishing career with 36 wins from 107 starts. The GOAT his latest star , out from America and is quite unusual to see a yank out this way. Looks the goods winning the 3 year-old trot (result below)😂 . Young kiwi Riley Butt (son of Tim) trained the winner and a 2nd Placegetter in the other 2 trots on Tuesday. doing a great job as a teen. getting the professional drivers to drive them more than himself these days already. 1 G O A T USA $ 5,481 Fr2 2 Rickie Alchin Rickie Alchin $ 18.00 PRB FTC 3 SWAB BLACK COLT 3 by WALNER (CA) out of THIS DREAMS ON ME (US) () Owner(s): Rampant Pty Ltd ATF The Rampant Trust, Summit Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Aaron Bain Racing Pty Ltd Breeder(s): A J Libfeld, M Katz 2 AJAY VOLSTEAD $ 1,566 Fr4 4 Darren Weeks Angus Garrard 7.60 $ 3.70 GS L WCL 1 3 NORTHERN HEIGHTS $ 783 Fr3 3 Melissa Gillies Trent Dawson 9.60 $ 21.00 BAS NAT 4 4 AHUNDREDPLUS $ 522 Fr7 7 Daren Garrard Chloe Butler 11.50 $ 101.00 RAS 6 BMD 5 PIZZA PRINCE $ 348 Fr6 6 Riley Butt Adam Sanderson 35.00 $ 41.00 RAS 7 6 ALDEBARAN FONZ $ 60 Fr1 1 Ryan Veivers Dannielle Veivers 35.80 $ 126.00 BSU CFS OD 7 HEAD EM UP NZ $ 60 Fr5 5 Tayla Gillespie Matt Elkins 66.10 $ 1.25 fav GS OL 8 TOORBUL TILLY NZ $ 60 Sr1 8 Riley Butt Nathan Dawson 68.00 $ 126.00
  18. they were. everyone has their favourite horses and tracks and jockeys/drivers from last century as well as this. seems everyone is more worried about track conditions and whip usage these days so that's a shame . but the Pokies (and extensive online coverage) ruined it a lot by coming in and taking a lot of the gambling dollar plus the presence of spectators at the track 😪 . anyway when you see Everst Day, Karaka Day , currently Royal Ascot , maybe Cup week too there is still plenty of people enjoying the day out 😀 and seeing the great horses race 🏇. Unfortunately for harness racing , the spectator days are gone , even for the brilliant and unique to harness racing Interdominion Championship, which used to have huge interest between our great 2 nations. Cambridge made a bold bid to rekindle some interest with the Race by Grins day Night of Champions , and getting the trotters going too now in a slot race and a decent crowd, and Aussie raiders 🇦🇺, and lots of entertainment I think. so let's hope that continues and the gallops slot race for BIG Bucks 💰 has great progress as well 👍 for next March.
  19. Wacko smacko . first Day of the great meeting and the Aussie Sprinter ASFOORA takes out the King Charles III Group 1 sprint. Like Black Caviar, Nature Strip and others enjoying the greatest Meeting on the planet. ASFOORA does Australia proud and just like Olympic Gold medal against the great racing nations she takes the Big prize for the Aussie Trainer Henry Dwyer. (move over Moods and Waller lol) How good was that ? Imperatriz not needed either to show case the fine Sprinters from Down-under. Imagine she would of carved em' up completely , but not to be.
  20. Pakenham getting more popular all the time. Hey TABman , with USA and Japan running very big races on dirt , and Aus has a lot of those sort of surfaces too for bush racing. It Doesn't seem to worry the horses at all. Could NZ do some dirt ? of do they already have one somewhere?
  21. I think the whip use thing is crazy as well. But like road rules and speed limits you have to adapt to the changes. Like a New Government Brodster. Whether you like em' or not. Drivers in Brisbane got a whole range of penalties in the 90's even when I was still going. One bloke got 3 months !! after a few warnings. For 'over-use' of the Whip. It's been an issue for some time. Opie Bosson won a Group 1 and got fined over there for 12 whip strikes instead of 10 when he won by a nose or something, . what a steaming lot of horse manure. Counting the arm movements. Hope that never happens in trotting. what a crock of sh... that is. horses don't number count someone should tell them 😂 CJ and MaurieMac and Mango have had issues there too on several occasions. Is hard to adapt to having whip in your rein hand when trying to Win as you say. I couldn't do it at all, But it does suit the Many many female drivers that came into the sport at that stage. so good on em'
  22. Should of had our Auckland Trots Challenge this week instead of Last week as its panning 🙄 . Gamma picks from last week have been going ok with Lil Whip, Classic Elegance, Keep It Classy and now Kiss and Run ALL Winning . Bloody things wouldn't win last week . go figure. At least 'The Revenant' got beat 😆 and didn't come back from the dead. And Bev the Goat only 4th for you Chief.😂 The Galah won with Tugawar again. and Brodster still trying to Shake a Leg only got 2nd again in the 4th race. beaten by 'Dear God' lol.😄
  23. Well they do it like the courts or the footy tribunal or any other official sanction operation. On a case by case basis. Who says Penalties have to be the same as anyone elses? No-one got as long as McGrath so bet he is pissed with the inconsistency lol. Once I got 2 horses put out of the draw (made unruly) on the one night and even knocked someone down with one of them 🙄. The stewards even gave me a choice of fine or suspension. So Doesn't have to be the same for everybody. I said give us a week off (and said "don't want to drive those two bloody horse next week anyway" 🤣😂) Plus I haven't go 200 bucks to spare either". "You don't want me working the whole bloody week for nothing do ya?" So they gave me a Week suspension very generously 😎. (one of the horses ran 3rd the following week for the new driver too 👍😆 from the unruly)
  24. Well the nice horse Aardies Express goes 3 from 3 in Oz as jogs in and picks up the easiest 16k as only racing 4 others last night and 2 were Grimson stable-mates 😆. a $4.20 Trifecta lol. She Aardie had to raise a sweat. Aardie advances to $150,000 earned from the 3 starts at Menangle. (about the same she earned in her entire 2 and 3 year old seasons combined racing in NZ) so guessing the Group 1's of 'Golden Girl' and 'Blacks A Fake' at Brisbane next month are on the agenda. Swayzee won last night Menangle for Grimson as well so might have 'top billing'. Leap To Fame is waiting for them though. The awesome Predator anihilated the Standing start Flashing Red handicap last night , finishing just as far in front of them , as what he started behind them at the start . Rounding them up Mid race and waltzing away up the straight. Track record again. Here he is cruising away from locals including old kiwi warhorse "Turn It Up' (centre of pack there 4th) who is just starting to miss a place lately but still has 5 wins from 12 starts this year. Old "Smithy's Terror' back in the truck there somewhere too.
  25. It helped Barry Purdon in his future/present anyway. (and Scott Phelan) and some numbers racing in the North Island that was becoming critical as you suggested many times. the Big Aussie stepping in. Even Inspired Katrina Purdon to even bring her horse Mach Shard home from Aus (and win the Messenger) since hubby Barry finally found some form 🤣😎💰 with Dean Shannon arriving on your shores and providing the Derby and Grins Race winner Merlin and others. and buying up big at the sales each year now. I believe 17 horses so far and building. A good Queensland friend of mine racing a share in MAGICIAN there too. (Shannon was the underbidder) Merlin's half brother that ran 2nd at Addington for Dalgety's last night . Doesn't look fast enough to Win the Derby ?? 😪 what do you think Brodster? can they improve him in 6 months to be a Derby chance?
