Gammalite replied to Gammalite's topic in Trotting Chat
6 more races for the Auckland trots to see if Chief or Galah are the hypothesis kings , or about to be de-throned by The Brodster and Gamma . (I'm picking the latter ) Race 3/ Chief: And Remember Me always popping up with something The Galah: Happy Hill always a happy fellow taking Chief to the cleaners The Brodster : Stone Cold Stone Cold approach to all the harness topics π Gamma : Lil Whip Gammalite used to getting a little whip action now and then π (the horse that is π ) Race 4/ Chief: Bev The Goat com'on Chiefy , you know you wanted that one The Galah: Carbon Galah comes both hard at times and softer in other appearances Brodster: Shake A Leg will need too out of the pole to hold its spot and 'be on the money' Gamma: The Revenant back from the dead with many fine wins lol Half way there , who will lead this one up ? -
Here we go on a 8 pts for first, 6 pts for 2nd, 4 pts for 3rd and 2 pts for 4th score across the 8 races at Alexandra Park Race 1/ Chief: Commander Lincoln as is commander of the site The Galah: Tugawar always in one with Chief π Brodster: MydadhtheTerror striking fear and terror into all Gamma : Jubilee Rock always rocks Race 2/ Chief: Dominus likes to dominate π The Galah: Hawkeye Pierce sharp eye like a hawk has the Galah Brodster: Slots Just loving those North Island Slot races ? Gamma : Classic Elegance of course π

While Chief and the Galah and Aardies Express possibly are enhancing their performance with a bit of Aminorex, Livamisole and/or assorted cuppa's, seems a good time for a tie-breaker while waiting for some Auckland trots to start soon , and enhance own performance with a nice XXXX beer and a tipping comp ππ. the Brodie-Meister better have a runner as well as know he loves Auckland trotting and wouldn't want us to beat him. π posting your horses soon. π

Just not starting or training enough horses mate. Too many 'old' trainers possibly , who only want to do a few horses at a time. John Dickie started just 29, J Cox 26, Hayden Cullen 22 ?? etc etc. and it's been half a year and they start one horse per week ??? they are fairly big names and there are many more with very poor numbers. Cullen has just had Greeeat grounding at Allstars and Telfers. should be starting plenty. Mark Jones scratching around on the grass tracks all the time, he should build a Metro team with SamO and should do better. G Great to see the Dunns at 'the beach' with lots of horses though , and lots of staff, lots of effort, and lots of Winners !! π°ππ at least someones having a real dig at racing a lot of different horses. I cheer them on more than Allstars these days I remember 4 of us doing 25 horses daily , and racing 15 per week for a good long time , into years even. 5 raced on Wed, 5 on Fri, 5 on Sat metro, 5 on the truck Sunday to the workouts/education, 5 young ones or work ups at home. and we did it easily. couldn't imagine just having only one starter per week like those NZ blokes ? Definitely Not a sustainable Business model as you said .

wow that is amazing , sounds like you have to be Really careful if it's linked to horse deaths. How strong can you get . wow. they're trying lots of things (along with their mate Grima) I've commented many times on here about Loyalist and Betterzippit performances after coming from NZ. and countless others too. Handy Nz horse 'Fire Fox' is an interesting one . another Boots purchase. First trained with Grimson and now a burst for Grima . A 1.49 speed demon in February and then doesn't' back up after so has spaced runs now. will be interesting to see what he does Saturday. Classy Operator obviously enjoying his potions at the moment for young Grima. wonder how long now till it burns out like Loyalist. They (the Grimson machine) couldn't get 'Hot and Treacherous' performing well at all which is surprising, possibly pulls to hard working against it. Hi MynameisJeff is back in action and looks ok (over short trips). Frankie Ferocious from QLD is probably Eureka favourite for the Big bucks in the Slot race. don't think they let kiwi bred horse in it .Bit racist ? lol. It seems there is lags in their methods working with horses at times, and some never come back to the firing on all cylinders again. Nort surprised they have found a trace of something with Trainor's . they have tried hard to solve the mystery for quite some time now ( think they needed Chief to send INCA over here ππ) could have sorted it out a bit better? lol
-
the Machine is back in action this week. The Grimson machine that is. (as well as the express) AARDIE's Express now training in his name instead of Jack Trainors for her first 2 Aussie runs for impressive wins. move over stable-mates 'Bubbles' and 'TayTay ' this week. will be No win for them. Was going to ask Mr Galah (or other if interested ) what he thought of the Mares situation at Menangle. Grimson and Trainor are virtually 'team training and driving so they have to work out a plan to suit their owners. NZ owned 'BRAEview Kelly ' has been at Trainors 2 years and won a group 1 last season , and can still run a 1.50 mile. BUT has not won in 7 runs this year for a poultry $24k because Trainor keeps bringing in new blood , Manhattan from Nz Winning her first 2 mares races (before in turn now being flogged by the Express ? , and now Aardies Express , who is a machine. so Braeview Kelly just reduced to running places to them all the time now π€ ?. I'llhaveaBubbles ( Nz ownedtransferred from QLD) and Tay Tay (transferred from Victoria , both to Grimsons so are next in line for the 'Express flogging' at Grimson's π. starting this weekend So wouldn't you be annoyed with these stables doing that to your mares ? Supposedly trying to get you some wins , and bringing in the bigger Names to beat you ? I'd be REALLY Pissed off if had Braeview Kelly getting ripped up by stable-mates? while still pacing 1.50 miles ? and now good Nz mare Manhattan the same fate ? / would just send her / them to good Queensland Trainer for the G1 Golden Girl coming up soon if mine, or something like that. Should they transfer her (Braeview Kelly) somewhere else ? probably cost 24k in training this year so they've made total of NOTHING with a 1.50 able horse. terrible IMO.

Who wouldβve thought? Michael House half the field!
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Poor judge . Thought the 'Choc's' was a certainty and would of lost the house on that one. π speaking of House's lol. Very well done to trainer Regan Todd and driver Ferguson put in a beauty to win the Sapling Stakes with 'Marketplace'. mowed down the 'chocolate one' no worries at all. π As for the 'House' team they did get a Trifecta in race 5 afterall. At the wrong end . the Last 3 home in the race π. But also the race winner too along with that tail end trifecta. so think they'll be happy with that. Dunn's may have missed the Sapling stakes Trifecta , but were back in business with the TRIFECTA in the 3 yearold race in Race 8. only paid $31 though. But aren't those 3 horses going like good things at the moment ? ' Harrison John-Miki'sCourage-Hadron Collider' all going great guns lately. -

well done to the Galah too.ππ very well spotted and encouraged by your good self and a few punters too , on to Victory !π° -
Trotters are hard to drive. They do things dipsy doddling sometimes. group 1 stars SundeeS and MuscleM even do/did at times. 'sunny's sister' looks very hard to drive but is a Derby/Oaks winner still. keeps John on the ball anywayπ I didn't comment on the Drive by Burley as the lads did that here already on Bolt. trotters are tough to win with. too easy to pick on errors. Example 1: Take a look at Luke McCarthy tonight. One of Australia's greatest horsemen. Getting his team ready for the Big carnival in Brisbane shortly is here early. Had 3 winners tonight and a fast finishing 2nd placing by NZer CantFindABettorman (what a beaut horse it is π) but LEAP To FAME to strong fresh up in 1.51 in the rain, parked out too, lol. just keeps winning Luke had the $1.50 favourite in the trot and it galloped for no reason when looming up to leader. .Constantinople had won 5 from 9 this year too. Lot of cranky punters afterwards lol . Just can't trust trotters. they had a junior drivers race for trotters earlier in night at Cambridge. A recipe for disaster, but they all did fairly well in the end. Burley looked 'uncomfortable' at times driving the TEAZ trotter ,and didn't get close at all finish 7th. they aren't the easiest to drive at times. Example 2 : Look at Jasinova . 3rd this week to Sacred mountain. trained by respected trotter trainer dr Chin. But on Rowe Cup night it galloped on the good Dr at the start in a support race , and galloped for 2 laps just behind the field . I thought that was quite funny for some reason. At her 114th start. π€£π. can't see how it's ever smart to bet on trotters π. better leave the Ashburton maiden no 1 today then lol. too risky ? Burley owns that trotter (bolt for the hills) herself it seems, otherwise the experienced Josh would possibly be driving it for his trainer dad. He won the race following on the night for Telfers, so was avaliable .

Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Oh well . Just wait until the following race . John and Robert Dunn have half the field and are sure to go very very close to running the Trifecta in the time honoured Sapling Stakes. the Purdon horse the only spoiler to his trifecta hopes it would seem. The 'chocolate' horse looks a real beautie. he'll get the choc's for sure. -
Common-sense prevails! Kah charges dropped.
Gammalite replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Best of Luck with the bet π°. Moods has the Derby favourite the filly Autumn Angel in it as well . so has put Jamie on the second stringer here, so a good tester ? π Jamie Kah got beat on her last start (up in QLD by the No.1 horse in the Derby today) so looks like Moods has plonked Zahra back on who won on her at Flemington and Randwick . She (Autumn Angel) looks terribly hard to beat drawn the pole as well , so a nice trailing draw over 2400m. What do you think of First Innings Chief (or Newmarket or anyone) ? was it any good in NZ.? NZer Forsman has it here in the Derby race 8 as well. and it seemed to stick on well first up caught wide . seems a show ? Big tip for Warmonger today too , going round. -

Gammalite replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Jamie had em all struggling in the $1,000,000 Sires Produce Stakes just now. You want the best jockeys on in these feature races, and even though it drew the widest and had to go to the back, she balanced him up and stormed home to win !!! well done Broadsiding. Cool as a cucumber is young Jamie. (and a nice anchor for all my multi's lol) another 10/10 rated ride as usual. The Natalie Rass of the galloping world !!ππ°π -
Much easier to drive a losing horse than it is to drive a winner. I think credit should go to the winning Ones to make you feel better π. (all of us watching or driving or punting that is ) tis the reason for mentioning it. Otherwise everyone just thinks these poor Juniors are 'poor' and 'agrieving' all the time as they learn their stuff. (how to drive a race better) Just like any apprentice, in any trade, to give encouragement and learn from the error's as they gain needed experience. The average driver (of any age) wins one in only 6-10 drives based on number of starters they compete against. therefore it easy to single out any one of the misses that they have. Blair Orange even gets beat plenty of times with some poorish drives (JMO) I'm just saying it's good to support the wins too. Drivers in NZ don't get many (wins) compared to here in Oz, as don't go around enough times to develop their skill level adequately. So we all see plenty of losing drives so no point getting too 'aggrieved' about it. It'll just make you angry with the game all the time. Bit of a Jackpot strike at the harness forums for this most of the time too ππ it's like a reverse punters club lol π€£
-
Don't mention the young lass won Race 7 though as you sink the boot in for a losing drive on a bloody trotter late on. The 3 Junior driver girls ran the Trifecta too (500+ bucks if you're game ) the 3 senior drivers were the last 3 home in the race. wonder what happened to them? . Asleep probably? letting the Junior lasses smack em like that π Great drive Stephanie Burley with a 10/10 drive to win on Sharkies Girl. Very good driving by Emily and Monika too. showing the old boys how to do it properly π The commentator was hilarious as was calling Matty White's drive like he was gunna win as they turned for home, but only ran 7th π€£ 'Here she come's " he said . got that way wrong.

Well the club did , and the trainers too. so they dropped it back to a mile distance from 1999 onwards. A good step by 'forward thinking' club. (looking after the horses). hence I said you would be a Poor horse trainer . Dunn has his team running home strong at present . Beating the Allstars easily and that , so no one else is gunna beat them if they (Allstars_ can't ??. Might as well stay home and look for a Winton 2 yearold race or something ππ no surprise the small field . You just have to live with it mate. Possibly. As far as I know ALL the Stakemoney is allocated at the beginning of each season for the whole season to every club for their race programs , so the Trainers race for it. (In Oz this happens in each state anyway) The Auckland Cup with it's drop in Betting revenue , has dropped significantly in Prizemoney as time goes by. so as you guys suggest the stakes are allocated according to the 'betting times, ' ''sponsorships' etc. and now the new slot races are a Great innovation allowing the owners and slot owners themselves to produce the BIG bucks to race for. A Million dollar Race by Grins was excellent. so they started a SLOT Trot now as well for the first time this year. Personally i'd advocate for the Auckland Cup to be a slot race too !! Problem solved ! best of the best horses and trainers over a 2 mile stand for a Million dollars π° what could go wrong ? get great publicity like the Everest gallop too. Harness racing has gone on for 100 years plus mate. Don't give up now. Look for innovations . Kiwis doing well introducing slot races and that Going to do it at the gallops now I believe ? in NZ so people can actually get a big prize win. Don't forget old NZ castoff BETTERZIPPIT won $500,000 in one go in Perth in a slot races. Couldn't win at Manawatu in NZ.

Punters have got All the other races . My only bet was on the Auckland Cup the other night . I love it when there's only 8 starters. Greyhounds only have 8 All the time. so not everyone is seeking 'Large number ' fields that you and Doomed go on about all the time. You're just used to those ridiculously BIG fields in NZ over the years , that inflated the starting prices, BUT Dramatically DEcreased the chances of an owners horse winning. (because of numbers against it) John Dunn had 2 wins in the 2 year old divisions last week and he will this week as well at Ashburton. (even putting those Nasel patches on the 3 runners in the Welcome Stakes as is pretty Desparate to win them for his owners) The 2 yearold Fields are small Because Why would you take on his 2 horses (Got the Choc's and Queen tyros in the form they're in with a half baked 2 yearold ? for example : Nathan Williamson's horse nice horse ALWAYS DREAMING was struggling a long way out in the Welcome Stakes and is probably ruined for the season now. You can't do this to your 2 yearolds and expect them to do well at their next start. You and Doomed and Newmarket just NOT seeing the Horses picture at all , grizzling about punting all the time , and the size of the fields racing . (with Merlin and Sooner the Better and DSD resting from the AKLD Cup , etc. Harness racing is Still successful (for more owners) with smaller fields and more races , so that is better than big fields and less races with it Very hard to win for the participants) And as for racing 2 yearolds mate .The last time the Sapling Stakes was 2400m was 1998 . You are living in the past old mate π . last century. The Club 'saw the light' and wisely Realised (unlike yourself π) that it is TOO HARD to put the 2 yearolds at this stage of their career over that journey. You'd be carving em' up as a trainer though mate? π. toughen em' up a bit ya reckon ? Put em over the 2400m and taking on Johns 2 star horses. You guys are Extra Tough Judges π
-
Don't think you understand the training of 2 yearolds Brodster. You can't just go and flatten em with mile and half 2400m racing . The Sapling stakes has traditionally been a mile (1600m) standard for 2 yearolds. But the last 2 years they added 100m for you lol π. so you shouldn't get so bored. The 2year old Fillies in race 7 and Also the 3 year-olds going around in race 8 at Ashburton , also being looked after by the club !! excellent at the 1700m dispatch point. The 8 races are ALL at 2400m for the older horses . so you and Doomed should just watch those 8 races ? and just skip over the 2 yearolds you're both grizzling about tonight . ππ both are John Dunn benefit races anyway πππ°π° They persist with 1700 for 2 and 3 year olds so you DOn't Flatten The Poor Bastards while they're learning their craft still. A great idea to persist with this approach .This looks after the horse better π, with recovery and that , plus mental and physical training.
-
Well they'll have to learn. Is great you can have your 2 yearolds racing in NZ Cup week now , with that change in season dates. One of the BEST incentives for 2 year olds in all harness history > Now they can race an entire year , from when actually turning 2 , right up to Jan 1st turning 3 if they want. NZ has been notoriously Bad/Slow at getting 2 yearolds going for years. Now the trainers have an extra 4 months to get it right. Much better/easier to get a 2 year old to the races. John Dunn has Got the Chocolates absolutely flying .Will win the Sapling by yards. Has been smashing Allstars already , so God knows what he would do to other stables runners. Is a Waste of time (and your horses confidence) trying to beat him already. Let stable-mate Malakai try . he'll flatten pretty quick.
-
You guys (Chief mainly lol π ) are confusing the hell out of the topic. In any tribunal hearing submissions are made and a judgement is filed. All court procedures do a similar thing. Not everyone is always telling the truth either. (Bit like a Parliament sitting really π) Often the correct decision might not even be reached due to faulty presentation or evidence . But at the end of the day someone might go home a winner, BUT some just have to try again , appeal again, pay the fine, go to jail , Do a DQ, face the missus or any other similar horrible fate . and cop it sweet. As someone said on here earlier All those that do the crime (in this case cheat the rules) you should do the time? . 'Set Penalties ' should be in place. (like traffic infringements are) but often don't seem to be in horse racing ? for some reason. (even in courts of Law that happens too) so that muddies the waters IMO.

Au Contraire matey. only just finished on this claiming thread saying about how the Claimers were my favourite .and how those horses that can't cut the FFA mustard are the real triers in racing. And Westview , Spatchcock and Brodster don't seem to mind them either.. Sure ! there's been talk of some of the greats (horses and horsemen ) on this site but plenty have often commented on Loose class horses they admire (admired) . I've seen hundred start 2 win trotters mentioned , even The 'Spitfire' got a hundred Posts π from his fan club here.π Mo'unga is no superstar either π popular amongst the lads though. Sorry about the small fields bugging you. There's just a lot less horses and trainers around so it's just Par for the course. Auckland Cup still had quality runners and good divvies past 2 years even with 9 and the 8 runners. It's just part of the Way It is at the moment. Plenty of Sunday New Zealand racing all year round to keep you punting if you need too mate, and all fairly lower class horses in bigger fields, which you and Brodster like too. Can't see any problem. just enjoy that and give the premier meetings the flick might be your go ?

Well not quite 30 for Todd, but for all the McCarthy's at Albion for long time . NICKY'S FALCON = 324 starts for 62 wins (mostly claimers) Andrew learned to drive on him first, the dad John took over a while , then Luke learned how to win races on the FALCON for a long time , before finally Todd began his driving career around 2010 it was . What a Family !! what a horse !! fantastic stuff. gotta love harness racing π₯° Hey Todd just bought up his 1000th USA winner since going there 2020. whatta champ driver !! Here's a bit compliments of the National Trotguide Aussie adds another USA highlight to resume May 18, 2024 National Trotguide TIME has seemed to pass quickly for Australian reinsman Todd McCarthy since his arrival in the U.S. in the summer of 2020, but heβs certainly made the most of it. McCarthy has been a Rising Star Award recipient, captured a Hambletonian, North America Cup and Breeders Crown, sat behind at least one Dan Patch Award winner every season, and, just this past weekend, notched his 1,000th victory in North America. βItβs been a bit of a whirlwind of three-and-a-half years now, itβs been so much,β McCarthy said. βItβs been everything I hoped for, but beyond anything I would have expected. I feel like itβs gone really fast, but I think anytime youβre having fun, time does fly by.β McCarthy, who won 1109 races in Australia, got his 1000th triumph in America with Endofstory at The Meadowlands

Loved em' . great racing for the older horses that have reached their mark. There's not enough of those around any more (sold off from NZ before reaching their best Mark) and as you say the ratings system makes it hard to 'Grade ' them. Owners loved having a value on their horses , and racing opponents of exactly the same class week in , week out for decades. we used to have 2 claimers every Saturday night for years. ALL the runners were horses that had won all their country races down to Metro class , and then a couple of Quallies. (We still run Metro Quallies every Sat) and a 20 and 21 class Metro race. Then there's nothing for them . Only FFA's ,but fast horses like TURN IT UP these days (past Akld Cup winner) dominate those every time . so the old Claimers were 2 seconds slower generally and No Chance in a FFA . but give those Claiming races a real hurry up though. Luke and Todd and Andrew McCarthy 'cut their teeth' driving in the claimers at Albion for years to become the amazing drivers they are (2 are in America now taking it up to Dexter) Todd won about 30 races (from his first 50 wins ) with the same old claiming horse. Can't think of it's name for the mo as was about 20 -25 years ago I spose. i'll think of it shortly. Those Claimers were the Highlight of the night for me. Brave old horses that had won heaps but FFA's just a bit slick for them. these claim races were just dandy

House is an experienced Horseman. He knows what is going on and (hopefully) operates within the rules all the time. he races in both islands and is well known to nearly all involved long term in the Industry. I would of thought his point of view would be an acceptable opinion. You must be happy with Robert Dunn's Chief? you haven't mentioned it much. Don't forget that witnesses in court proceedings every day , a groomed by the prosecution or the defense to come up with stuff advantageous to their case, even if knowing the applicant/defendent is guilty. A lot of the time the final decision might come as a reduced sentence , as mentioned by the Galah in the previous post. It seems he (McGrath) shows some remorse, is a good horseman (that NZ need at present state) , is a good bloke by all reports (so nothing wrong with fellow competitor's giving character reference surely?) and received a far too hefty sentence. I guess( like Alford and Jones got too ) the long Disqualifications put a Real Stop to the cheating , as people in the industry now , will be thinking twice or 3 x even before trying anything , or their time in the industry could be ended. Some schmucks still try milkshakes in Aus. we have about one a month on average from desparado's trying to keep up. The year out is obviously not enough to deter them (cause it's still happening) so for that reason , Well done Nz RIB for dishing up the long sentences. π no-one cheating there now in NZ in recent times ? lol π
-
Well that's a surprise he didn't do that. when originally given the Penalty. Many do appeal. Robert and John Dunn even got their caffeine 'fine' halved by appealing . so you can get a result if you present a good case. For McGrath, Not against the charges but at least should of appealed against the severity of the penalty. He might of got somewhere then.? must be doing it tough the poor bugger to go through this latest process.
-
A very harsh (long ) penalty was imposed on McGrath. there must of been some underlying reason for this. almost 4 times the normal milkshake penalty. Robert Dunn had a few blemishes himself back in the day with substances , so can probably understand the predicament that Nigel has found himself in. I'm All for 'Serve ya time' then get on with it. you are removed from horse contact while DQed. Nothing wrong with reducing the term if the board agrees to it . esp for being manifestly excessive in a way. you can only try. Speaking of tries. The Bronco's just lost just now in the NRL (and the Brissy Lions too in the AFL the dills π) and so it's up to my mates from down the road (REDCLIFFE Dolphins) to knock off the NZ Warriors at Mt Smart , which has just started , to get some QLD redemption back. Fins Up π
