  1. Nearly ALL stables 'do' something LO that pushes the boundaries. whether it be in a race or treatment of horses whatever . galloping and trotting. big or small stable. No excuse to break the rules whichever is the case. You are a bit soft in NZ . In QLD we don't muck around . Leading trainer/ driver Shane Graham did 2 years fixing a midweeker. Grant Dixon had his wife Trista given a year DQ for team driving. there's the Pitt and Jack 'affair' of course. and even recently some of the BEST trainers in the country were given Time-Out. Kerry-anne Morris, even the very Best of the Best EMMA STEWART given 6 months . and don't get me started on Ben Yole in Tassie 🀒 . πŸ˜‚ what an abortion of all rules that situation is. the Supreme court has currently dumped him 'out' again. but he'll back like the fricken Terminator. He terminates a lot of the trotting ethics and nice horse's anyway πŸ€•. you guys have just gone all woosey and won't dump anyone out. Well ya did get those Kerr, Alford and Jones Scoundrels in the end . so Progress is Being Made !! keep it up . get Inca back ? lol πŸ˜‚
  2. You guys are really funny. For years I have read on these threads accusations and heaps of grizzling of team driving , race fixing, drugged horses in NZ on these forums . You have an investigation to catch some of the culprits (Mc Grath caught red-handed) and grizzle all the more πŸ˜‚. Reputation Damaged you say ? by the Investigation ? lol. I think Alford and Jones and characters like that are the one's who damaged the Reputation of the harness Industry. Not the people trying to keep it clean . You NEED them , more than anything . I once travelled with a horse at trials in NZ and it raced as another (different name). To hide the name of the one that actually started in the trial and won easy. Was given a solid hit-out to see ok out of mobile and that . (was all good and duly saluted first up not long after at nice odds for the owner) Anyway a leak made it's way to the stewards from something I said to someone, and they arrived in bulk (4 of them piling out a car) at the home stables the next day questioning and investigating the incident. I just said "I'm only a teen kid mate, I don't know one horse from another" . nothing they can do about that lie. I felt bad what can you do. we were cheating. so nothing could be done after the fact anyway. but that's the way it is. Investigators NEVER get straight answers mates. What a tough job . and all you guys want to do is shoot some-one because they couldn't shoot down the industry heavyweights. GREAT that they didn't get anyone (except McGrath who had a chequered history) . But GREAT they were there to try and uncover the truth . Keep up the good clean racing NZ !!!!
  3. She did in fact start last Friday . AardieByThe Seaside won first up easy enough in a $75,000 Fillies and mares open . she had brilliant New Zealand form last year I see as well. 8 wins from 13 runs. Any idea of the Sale price for a good mare like that ? (The million dollar plus Nullibor slot-race was run last Friday too in WA. Minstrel part owned by Robin and jackie Butt ran 2nd and picked up $200,000. ) winner was Kate Gath with last years Miracle Mile winner Catch A Wave.
  4. yes πŸ‘πŸ’°. one of the All time great Melbourne Cups. won by u-beaut champ Ethereal . Sheila Laxon training the Big Caulfield Cup - Melbourne Cup double. (also a BMW in Sydney town) ( NZ Mare Verry Elleegant Winning both races too. in different years.) Ethereal mows down Give The Slip here in the last few metres of 2001 Cup after Give The Slip had 'given them all the slip' and was 6 lengths in front at the 200 😁 . great win for Sheila Laxon . The first Lady Trainer in history to Win the Melbourne Cup. fantastic for NZ . Need Freda to have a go now ? πŸ† maybe Orchestral will get stronger too ?
  5. haha πŸ˜† just kidding Chief. plenty of runs scored so you'll never catch up πŸ˜‚. Sunline of course trained throughout by the McKee family and as well as the Big Aus wins , took a Hong Kong Mile crown too. (and 3rd in Dubai) . whatta beauty she was. One of the true great NZ racehorses. Hey at the same time , another NZ trained mare was racing in Aus and thumping out some big Staying victories including a handy 'double'. Loved her heaps, and hope she won some races in NZ as well. Can you think who that might be ? πŸ‘
  6. You guys sure didn't get to see the great mare much in NZ. The great mare had those 3 x 2 year old starts back in 1998. 2 x 3 year old handicaps (Hastings and Ellerslie) the year after Then 2 x Breeders stakes at Puke, 2 x Waikato sprints at Te Rapa Sunline Won All 9 of those over a 4 year period. ... so a bit light on the racing in NZ bit.? Just as well Melody Belle came along to entertain the locals there a bit. Maybe Sunline's an 'honorary Aussie' like VE ? πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί
  7. Yes , we didn't see Frankel out this way , but renowned horse people like expert Francesca Cumani for example , rated him the best she ever saw when she presenting opinion down here for the Feature races. seems he would be too good. Black Caviar is always worth a mention mate 😁 . ( the Aussie equal of Imperatriz I spose ) and as for Winx , would of been great to take her on with Verry Elleegant . She wasn't scared of a good mile gallop and could take it out to 2 miles and win a Melbourne Cup . ( and beat the highly rated and lowly rated UK imports with regularity. A real shame about the Northern Hemisphere bid too late in her career , after she had "given it everything she's got Captain" as Scotty would say to Kirk on Star Trek for all those years. πŸ˜‚ .
  8. Black Caviar doesn't deserve a slap in the face mate. She went her whole career undefeated and took the trip to Royal Ascot , starting not fully fit from aches and pains, and even turned off the gas by rider Nolan a bit short of the line , when clear of the field. (huge field of quality International runners it was too) For years now UK horses have been turning up winning some of the features . Not all are successful but some have plucked some of the big prizes. since WINX won her 4 Cox Plates , (the biggest middle distance race we have Southern Hemisphere) 2 Asian horses have turned up and won lately, and we had three lower rated UK horses win the event as well . 'ADELAIDE and SIR DRAGONET and STATE OF REST all winning the Cox Plate in very recent years . they only won 4 or 5 races each in their Entire Racing careers as UK middle distance imports. and yet were Hammering out Cox Plate victories.πŸ˜‚ so we were lucky the best ranked horses didn't turn up as you say🀣. (footnote. The old Shiekh mohammed's BENBATL did turn up , bred at his Darley stud, and try and knock off Winx. His highest ranking was about 10th in the world , so pretty good. and ran a gallant 2nd in the 2018 Cox plate, but it's a win for the locals in the WFA feature for a change πŸ†πŸ‘) long may she reign !! or not .
  9. That was super impressive. Good call on her winning Mr Galah. 55 half out of the gate with a death seat 54 second last 1/2 mile . just incredible they can run 1.49 miles like that and win easy these days. That one Aardie's Express will win plenty. Big spending Canadian millionaire owner Mike Tanev has a good one there for sure. Think he sold 1/2 of the other one AardieByTheSeaside to the Bond Team in WA and it's gone over there. yet to start. Interesting the other mare's race tonight went to the Queenslander. 'Girl from Rosedale' in 1.51. after a few handy Brisbane runs for Ryan in Veivers in 1.53 lately. picks up a win over Grimson and Trainor at Menangle ? which is a bit of a surprise. they sure rattle along now. Grimson's 2 runners tonight both 2nd then , to the QLDer visitor and the 'Express' new arrival you pointed out. that'll annoy him lol.
  10. Emma did get the 6 months DQ last year. somehow got a stay for a few weeks approved, until her hearing date in March recently. But no-where has posted a result of that hearing? . Very poor really . just like they trying to hide it or something. Emma Still seems to be involved Heavily as has several chances in several races worth Hundreds of thousands of πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’° tonight. she doesn't want to miss out on that πŸ˜‚. maybe she got off? hey watch out for old mate Grant tonight. This QLD bloke is pretty good in race 6 at Melton, FATE AWAITS. he's no Leap To fame or anything but bowling along well and won his 3 starts so far by a combined 20 lengths. so he's popped down to Vic to try and nab another Big prize tonight.
  11. Here's One of the All time greats winning 50 years ago . The same year the Commonwealth Games were in Christchurch and Dick Taylor won the 10,000 m and Sir John Walker ran 2nd in the 1500m. (to Bayi in WR time) all about a month before RED RUM won at Aintree (for 2nd year running to be a true great) to be a Grand National Champion.. you have to be kidding that was half a century ago . some great events of all time that still stand out after all those years. seems like just a short time ago but time waits for no-one . Neither does Red Rum when he got going lol. a
  12. And here he is in Full stride for NZ , the great Majestic Man ( and seen here racing past the Double Interdominion Champ Just Believe down there on the inside ) to One of his Great Victories about a year ago . Proving on his day he could go toe to toe with the Best Horses there is going around. Congratulations to All the owners , Trainer and Drivers that always did NZ harness racing proud.
  13. I've never been in awe of someone in racing as much as Ken Browne of NZ . Riding over the sticks for over 40 years . incredible man and trainer (along with wife Ann helping with the training) Ascona was the very First Great Northern Steeplechase win for Ken too . way back in 1977. I would go to the races once a year about then, with dear old dad, and always wanted to go Great Northern Steeples day as a kid. What a Spectacle ! just a an amazing moments in time. the champ Ken quite tall for a rider too. Here he is on Crown Star. (went on to win 2 NZ Grand Nationals at Riccarton) look at this style ! fantastico.
  14. hahaha. it was probably you ya bugger πŸ˜‚ . always quick off the mark like a good standing start horse. kiwi ingenuity at work πŸ˜πŸ˜‰
  15. I do feel sorry for you feel bad about Not getting the Bets on you once did. My son won a thousand once on Ladbrokes on-line and got restricted straight after. It's just part of the parcel mate. The TAB/Entain seem to offer a product you don't like? . so you should look elsewhere really. Every sport (and business company ) plays 'Favourite's' in some form or another. It's happened since Sport and betting ever began. It's called business management (Not Descrimination as you suggest) As seen through this thread Entain and even BGP are developing ways to co-exist in a Racing world where there is still Fun to be had, as well as the dollar spend . refunding the BGP bet to keep them 'interested' is a Bit of Stretch though πŸ˜‚πŸ˜… their money but. my personal harness interest is in the fantastic racing 99% and the money bets 1% , and yours is the other way around which is fine . so I do apologize for not seeing things from your lens and sounding un-sympathetic to your needs. I think people need limits on their OWN Bank card money daily withdrawals mate, let alone how much they spend on a single bet. Gambling is a huge society problem , and when people get on a bender a LOT of DAMAGE is done. I had an owner who just did small bets at the TROTS with his horse and seemed quite normal. not getting carried away. He was a company Director and had access to the company card. One day suddenly flew to Sydney Royal Randwick and told me he has been stood down at work the following week . He spent $72,000 odd at the races that one day. πŸ€•πŸ˜± ya need limits. cards, bets, for the sake of everyone. Betting pools mean zero to me, just the development , maintenance and enjoyment and progress of the great harness sport. Best of Luck with your bets !!!!
  16. Well it's like biting the hand that feeds you. Brodie has already made a lot of money from the TAB and just wants to continue getting BIG helpings like he once did. There are plenty of folk that once did. But forgets that the TAB has been his friend and 'fed' him in the past , and there's a LOT of other dogs in the Pack that need a feed as well. I appreciate their efforts. The QLD TAB even miraculously keeps Tasmanian Harness racing going. Even though it has really 'Gone To The Dogs ' πŸ˜…πŸ€£ (a lot of the equine participants are even fed to them down there , when they can't run any faster anymore πŸ˜ͺ) The FEEDer (the TAB or casino) is going to give FAVOURITISM to the dogs like Packer and BGP who come in and have a good regular feed and bring lots of Food (money) with them.... like on a jolly good Picnic. they will be played with and give lots of fun and joy chasing the Frisbie cash. Some folk just want to take them to the cleaners (take as much food as they can) and close down anything racing that is of No value. i.e. that you can't get a bet on or whatever. even though a few of us make/made a living from the great sport.
  17. It's their money . they don't have to Accept bets against it if they don't want to. Your 2nd sentence accuses discrimination. It's their money they can accept bets from whoever they want. Kerry Packer used to have Million dollar bets when he was in town. the rest of us wouldn't be allowed this. BGP get 'large' bets on . some look risky. some win . some lose. But they are good value as come back for more . They are supplying fun and enjoyment and involvement to a lot of patrons too, your last point here shows you are Not Interested in this type of thing. Personally I agree with you about the personal selection. But you are only interested in Winning money in 'Larger' amounts in one go . Of course they will frown upon that . common sense. p.s We used to try and beat the 'Limit's' in the Bookie ring at MV by 10 blokes simultaneously hitting 10 bookies at the same time to get $1000 on each at 4-1 on NZ first start horses. $10,000 invested. If you weren't simultaneous they would wind the price in to even money , or something before you even got to them. good system , and took $4000 off each bookie, which was sort of sad in a way. One horse only got 2nd once and I was glad the books got one back for a change πŸ˜‚ but all 'ethical' I spose. Bookie didn't have to take the bet afterall. there's limits on the Amount You can Put on . This Is for Everyone's Benefit. even Multi Billion dollar casino's.πŸ’° would be irresponsible gambling to accept any bet from Brodster or any punter who rolls up on a mindless bender. At least BGP , (and the Betting syndicate I joined on a 6 months contract) were' fully controlled' for their customers , and this stopped the massive losses that Individuals would LOSE on Their own.
  18. Mate , casino's do it all the time. Like a TAB they work on collecting the gambling dollar. A 'loaded up patron ' could walk in feeling lucky and have a plonk of $5000 on the 'Red' and then just walk out again with an extra $5000. The Casino (and the TAB) DO Not want this to happen. Therefore all the table Plays have limits. All the patrons are restricted. $500 in one go I think it is/was. with a working scale depending on what the odds are and potential payout is. Customers that work out a system are often watched for. some aren't even allowed to play Black Jack and assorted things like that. Your systematic betting record is obviously going to Attract attention. you are /were trying to put large amounts on , in one go. and apparently had very large collects. No wonder they ran to the hills to get away from you mate !! you need high roller treatment. Join a Punter group that is ALLOWED to put the Large Bets on. I joined a Saturday Group once (a six month contract ) that was allowed to put HUGE bets on . I actually received a 'Portfolio' of all the bets being placed on the Saturday on behalf of the 1000 or so member. main advantage was you had heaps of bets on without doing any study whatsoever. main disadvantage was you couldn't pick anything yourself and a few of the bets seemed no chance, and were heavily Gai Waterhouse favoured as well πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ so after the 6 months it becomes stale not picking them yourself ( A PGB problem for sure) and isn't as much Fun. But no way would a 'Single Entity' get those Bets on, without being known to the betting agency as a regular
  19. Brodie is a single entity, trying to make a quid out of a system that has apparently reaped results. Brodie doesn't act as if he had loyalty or fondness to any Betting agency. He just wants to take them to the cleaners , for as much as he feels he deserves. If I was a betting agency I'd be VERY wary of someone doing this , and restrict them. PGB are are bunch of clever fellows who pool together , have a lot of fun , betting agency suck up to them a bit, inflates the pools nicely. Not too bothered whether they win or lose . So you WELCOME these people. they're great for the racing game and getting people involved. OF course the Betting Agency will let them Place their Big Bets. They come back and spend it . I think it is un-necessary to refund their losing bet though. That has OBVIOUSLY left a Bad taste in other punters mouths. I remember one bet once I tried to put on an Nz pacer on the grass. $500 place on number 1 using a Brodie-like strategy 🀣. the machine said "Too high amount , try lower amount" so I dropped it to $400 to win $400. I wasn't surprised in the slightest. Why should they risk more than a certain payout amount for my benefit? They're trying to make money . BTW (horse ran 4th hemmed in behind the John Dunn fav who led and won so it was goodbye $400 lol. πŸ˜† true yarn ! and I have played better strategy than that rubbish ever sinceπŸ˜‚
  20. A tough blow Walt. Those medical things sure are a test in life at times. I wish you all the best for some more happy times at your favoured Nelson town activity (of course including the harness racing there that you have mentioned many times at BOAY that contain many great memories for you from the past , and now and into the future too) you are a 'fair dinkum' topgun enthusiast. Don't let TABman get to ya mate. just another poster who comes up with some interesting stuff in times that are changing , as far as the betting and types of racing , etc are going. He would not of known about the Sun thing , (indeed at 60, 6 weeks ago I had the first thing cut off top of head, carcinoma, so am all good to go now from the hot QLD sun ) we are always commenting on the sunshine here. I loved the Slot races , Aussies turning Up ? cool beyond words !!!!! and personally I've never seen NZ racing going so well than over the past year. Brodster is the eternal grim reaper who I often have debated the 'North Island trotting' industry with (in good spirit I hope) . I think he would shut it down if given the chance lol.. I think it's going great guns , and just needs the Very Easy Solution .. of just sell off All of Alexandra Park to clear the debt.. and have a country race-course that does it all say at Waikato maybe . (worked perfectly well for Melbourne and Sydney) there ya go problem fixed in a jiffy by Gamma 🀣 πŸ˜† p.s As for betting , I and many other's have suggested many things to Brodie over past 2 years to 'engage his investment dollar' . he rejects them all as is his perogative. And I have no idea who TABman works for , but there's still PLENTY of mob's that will take harness racing bets, so Get in and have Fun still mate . Next stop NZ Messenger soon ?? there's some beauties coming up soon from yours and I old stamping ground at Auckland. My very first night at Auckland trots as a young teen, flashy LOCARNO stormed to victory from back at in the field to win the NZ Messenger brilliantly. addicted for life since lol.
  21. What an amazing race it is . Look at these bad boys go at Ellerslie !! . you can almost hear the Yeehaa as they soar through the air from the fearless jockeys and jockettes . Hey to 'Walk the Course' must of been a thrill too. so prestigious. love to ov done that
  22. Get with the program TABman πŸ˜…. now you at BOAY only 50% of us lose on the punt here , and that's only on a day when we follow your tips !πŸ˜‰ The horse owning business looks good if you are a Fat Debbie or a Dean Shannon. but wow ! don't they spend some and have a few numbers too. they need 25% back to keep it all going . Dean might prop up North Island harness (like Seymour props/propped up his old stomping ground in Brisbane. Dean still has some here too) so can't begrudge them their winners.
  23. Wow . that was something else. πŸ‡πŸ‡ Do yourself a favour and grab a replay of the 2024 Grand National at Aintree Liverpool . Won't put the Winner here so not to spoil . One of the wonder spectacles of the World in Racing.
  24. Well spotted by the Mrs then mate. First thing I thought when you put this about the Dalgety horse Forever Dream is the Eagle-eye of your wife. The Galah and The Eagle perched there , watching over the ''Kiwi action'. πŸ‘πŸ˜† meanwhile a goose or 2 are wandering around at the races lol.
  25. Overnight the 2024 Grand National is on and all the spectacular action in front of 60,000 with some amazing racing was on. the racecard of some of the greatest stayers on the planet jumping over things while at a fast gallop. There's nothing as spectacular as horses in racing silks put to the ultimate test over these uk course 's The recording on my TV is on , and is amazing .done 4 races already. these horses are just Super . and so brave. Here's the score up for the next . they just all walk up like a harness race, and then a flag drops and awaaaay they go. Takes 2 commentators to get through the race-call too . and they are simply Brilliant . some good Irish twang at times too !!
