  1. That is really sad mate. There must be some answer we can come up for you. you've been an outstanding supporter of the sport. I can't get the NZ TAB on my screen ever. because i'm in the wrong location . But could sign up for about 6 or 7 different on-line bookies if I felt like it. Can NZers get any on-line bookies too ? or does location restrict ? No. Future markets , you take the challenge your horse will start in an event, let alone Win it lol . Very hard to do BETS on future Gallops as the nominations list is Very Big sometimes. Waller and Maher and trainers like that have 700 horses each on their books. and none are slugs either. so very hard to pick what will make the final cut (field) in advance sometimes. so very rarely take a future gallops bet. They pay alright on the day after acceptances anyway, with the larger pools. Of course after acceptances ( the final race field) is drawn up , and your horse you bet on doesn't show up, you get a refund. In harness racing it's different in that you Pretty much know the horses that will make the Future fields in advance. Example: Republican Party , Mo'unga etc almost certain to start NZ Cup. however last year, I lost $30 worth of future bets on Leap To Fame last year because he had minor set back and cancelled the trip for the NZ Cup. so no refund. I was trying for better advance odds than what I would get on the day. Example : We have the Big Eureka in 3 weeks time at Menangle. there is a FUTURES market available. probably 8 of the TOP 10 in the current Futures market will make the field . The positions in the Eureka Slot are keenly sort after. So only the best 10 will make it to the Post. So If I bet on one that doesn't make the field (chasing odds or something silly like that) I will lose the Investment.
  2. They have added AKUTA to the market now. 2025 NZ Cup. Latest Sportsbet odds Win and place Leap to Fame $1.80/$1.19 Swayzee $3.50/$1.60 Don Hugo $7.00/$2.50 Republican Party and Don't Stop Dreaming both $7.50 a win and $2.62 to place. and the now added AKUTA for Mark Purdon is $11.00/ $3.50 looks a good place bet for the Brodster.😎 pops his $1000 on that and suddenly $2500 richer. 👍💰. likely to shorten up if Mark drives Akuta himself this Friday and pisses in at Alexandra Park.
  3. Been a while since the Tangarine graced the turf of Aintree. Well it's more of a 'Puke' Yellow with red sleeves. but close enough 😋 About time someone went there to Lap them once again. This fellow ridden by Pitman too in the photo 🤣. was about a lap in front ( or one complete fence at one stage) RED RUM unfortunately became the immortal of all time and ran him down late. Look at the size of that fence ? Kangaroos would be flat out to clear that. But Time for another Crack at it Huey. Bring on LEADERBOARD 2026.
  4. What a Beautiful beast of a horse. The 'Bulk' of the UK jumping season is from November to April. He could win 6 jumps in that time and finish with the Grand National on April 4th. Give the Akau a ring Chief. I'll fly with him (for free ) if they're too chicken to send anyone or need staff to do it. and get him primed to Be the Best Beast in World. bigger and badder than Leap To Fame even 😎🍻
  5. Those fences in England (at Aintree) are generally all loose stuff . They do 2 laps in the Grand National and after the first Lap a team of Workers at Every fence hurriedly repair the fence , stacking all the 'fence brush' back on, ready for the next lap. One day one of those workers will get 'Cleaned up ' by a loose riderless horse I reckon. What a race it is though.😳 Never seen so many death-defying stunts performed in just a few minutes, by so many. Incredible fails to describe it really. Field of 30 to 40 starters usually. Near best horse on the planet, if you win that one. Send Leaderboard over and give it a go I reckon.
  6. Absolutely brilliant . What a great training achievement . A trifecta in a Grand National. is hard to believe it happened. should send the winner to Aintree I reckon. Put Oz and NZ on the Map for the poms. (they keep sending things to pinch the Melbourne or Sydney Cups ) probably the Brisbane one as well , but it's gone low key and No one knows anymore . Used to be a public holiday here for its running Queens B'day . but the tradition died. (along with her Majesty as well) Good to see a Grand National tradition Continuing though !! Imagine how proud those 3 young ladies that Strap them are . Hayley , Emma and Lisa. Real unsung heroes of the racing world , that must school them and do hundreds of hours pampering too lol 😆. Hope they get Shouted 3 Big framed Photos for their Home walls by TA. a moment to remember for them.
  7. What a great photo at the top Chief. Clearing the Jump beautifully. congrats to all the connections 🏆. What do you think of the shadow roll though ? on those 2 horses? seems like it would be hard for them to see the jump properly when they get really close to it . Is this a tactic ? to make them jump with Just slightly more effort just in case they clip it on the way over ? seems like they would be slightly un-sighted when close to jump (like the 2nd horse in the photo is ) and this make them jump more aggressively than they otherwise might ? that is my theory guess but would like to know what you think ?
  8. The part where TAB agencies/agents that were operating from their own premises ,have closed the last few years and you just see betting machines in pubs. Probably similar in NZ , but a weekly or twice weekly trip to the TAB used to be fun to pick some with mates and you could punt at leisure . Now they just want everyone spending their money alone on-line , where they fumble and fail while on the drink or whatever. That's the one sad thing about the modern Business model. Pretty awful, but it works a lot of the time for them. people spend more that way. well they put Sunday racing on every week for those small time parties you mentioned ?? like Kurow today. Has been part of the NZ HRNZ business model for a LONG long time ? so what's the problem ? do you need Midweek as well or something ?? Kurow looked good today . But the Features go to the star players of Nathan Williamson and Stonewall. There's not much left for 'mug' players anymore. Attractive racing through the ceiling, esp the past 3 years. Even more features like the Velocity and the Ascent and the Betcha to add to an incredible year of racing , that HRNZ put on each year. Aussies have been in a huge amount of the Big time racing last 3 years , because it's that good. Many champions racing there past 3 years . I can think of at least 10 Top horses. .And you DESPARATELY need Mark Purdon and Barry Purdon and folk like that , to Keep you competitive mate. They are household names ?? and ARE Important to Punters . they provide the runners Capable of winning the Group 1's and keeping NZ harness on the map. as a force. and not a farce. 😅😉🤪 Mark has run 2nd in the last 4 NZ Cups (or something like that) since Self Assured won it . He's that good he came to Queensland and Won our feature QLD Derby recently, while near retired . on a strange track with strange drivers. Barry held both the Aussies out in the time honoured NZ FFA and Also won the Velocity showday , and Meant To Be won 4 Group 1 trots. a legend of the sport . But a dreaded North Islander .hahaha and you say they are irrelevant and Not important to Punters?? what ? I can't believe you say this stuff? A sport NZ has done so well at for decades . reduced to just need mug racing for mug punters ? You had that today and nearly Every Sunday already ? so can't complain . Luckily I had no Sunday race-day in my time . thank the Lucky stars. No Wonder Waller went to Sydney to be a Big time Gallops trainer. lol.😎🎉 probably irrelevant in NZ lol.🤣 Barry had 2 Red hot favourites the Punters got stuck into last Friday night , because he is THAT good . and Important. Alas they both ran 2nd (we'll just Blame Scott for that 😆, or Zac 🤣) but mainly the NI opposition is just so Good as well, that a world champion of decades in Barry Purdon found it hard to win. Not irrelevant though. Hey and Mark had a drive and bought home the Bacon ok. To make up for it. But lets throw him under the Brodie Bus as well because he can't Punt on him, and so is Not Important. odds are too small. or some shit like that. Lets just look after the Grass Roots/track horse class that win a race a season and Punters lose heaps on trying to chase odds.😋 Punters would of Loved seeing ANDRETTI paying $2 with the Grand Master on mate. So It's All good . I thought it was pretty Dandy anyway. Nothing better than Mark in a 6 horse field while he has 2 of the runners. Money for Jam. 💰
  9. How can you say that ? the betting agency's and the HRNZ are working hard to bring attractive racing and support the participants in very trying times for the general public. It's Not their fault the reduced participation. It costs a lot to run a horse these days. You have money and still wouldn't do it yourself because of the costs involved. and when they do compete , the opposition is made up of extremely talented horsepeople. NZ has a Huge tradition in great horses and people in the harness racing. Mark Purdon has been back winning past couple of weeks , and Ray Green too at Auckland , Barry and Scotts 2 horses both ran 2nd . Bernie Hackett won 2 of the 3 trots. They were racing for between $8,500 and $11,000 for the winner. Barely enough to get by? , for fast Metro horses class trainers that are near best in the world . Yet you say the HRNZ business model is paying them too much inprizemoney ?? I say Not true !!! . It's only just enough to keep going really? , with All of todays expenses, staff and all sorts of things. Betting companies have their own betting business plans that yield them Millions. I'm told by Chief and curious and that the Share price has doubled this year ?? no flaw in their business plan then either mate. We're getting GREAT racing and a GREAT SHARE price (HRNZ and Entain) Maybe you should BUY the Entain SHAres then ? and get on board that way ? if you can't find a way to get a bet on like everyone else does. Might make you wealthy mate ? 😂😅🎉
  10. That race was only 11,000 for the winner. Bar Louie looked good though in the Kurow Cup today. 'Light- hands' Tim sat him 3 wide for a lap with cover for a lap, then went round and took over. Another good Telfers win. congrats to them . Having a great run. The Stand start went alright in such a big field !! AAA+++ . only one galloped. Good horsemenship going on in that, but what can you do in such big fields. about half of them were still held up at the finish line . LAKELSA was 6 back on the inside at the Quarter and NO CHANCE whatsoever from there. For owner, punter or driver. Can see why punters not keen on NZ trots for betting when so many get held up and don't even get in the race. Speaking of trotting . Your selection BRING ON THE MUSCLE was Excellent in race 9. He beat the Handicap and caught the leaders the last 50m . But Nathan Williamson drove Super well and peeled off his back to nab him the last bit . Bad Luck for your $1000 Mr Galah (our imaginary bet) 😋 meanwhile Gamma $800 richer and at the Bar (with Louie 🏆 )😂🍻 no stopping the champions lol 😆
  11. Brodie , you often talk like you don't know how casino's and Bookies trade with their clients ?? Of course they take Large Bets . From their KNOWN customers. Customers that support them with fairly regular bets ,(so the house has a chance to make money too) often get rewards with special leeway. Casino's even have rooms for their favourite customers, set -up with their favourite things. It's a case of looking after the folk who might chip in a million each visit when feeling Desparate lol. You've seen it in NZ heaps of times with the 'BOYS Get PAID' syndicates. at the horses. They get bets on that others can't , because they're INTO ENtertainment as Well . for their customers. Everyone wins with a bit of Fun , even if some of the bets are losing. doesn't matter to BGP, as 'the House' needs to win too sometimes. Brodster, You Only want to take their Money. Not interested in the entertainment or fun factor . Not connected to any of the runners. nothing. So you are NOT a favoured customer old mate (sadly) Maybe you should change your ways ? and become a 'favoured customer' ? Instead of an old age Grizzley lol 😁 Start up your own Boys Get Paid. and advance yourself in retirement to 'the Brodster Gets Paid '.😅🤣 COMPUTER safeguards are in place for Bookmaker Telephone/on-line Customers. If they Win Big TWICE in a row , then a limit is placed for a certain timeframe and amount thereafter. Sometimes it's a VERY small one i'm told . There are plenty of safeguards in place , that usually work to STOP the punter LOSING BIG amounts. which is more often the case than WINNING Big amounts. So LIMITS/and or Restrictions are an excellent thing whether be 'daily' or by 'amount spent' for Single entities , to save the customer thousands on occasion when they are 'Desparate' . (Desparate has quite a few Meanings as far as betting goes, so you just have to work that out for yourselves 😋🤣)
  12. Personally I think someones pulling all your leg. Just seems like a Lot of BS. TABman should be able to tell us the truth about this sort of thing?. how much an NZ betting agency usually accepts as a bet? No one will take that sort of a bet against a first starter? . in NZ too ? lol All the betting mobs in Australia are no where near that on the more popular gallopers. An NZ trotter ? can't see it somehow. Here's a selection of big bets from last week end on the Australian Gallops . From 3 or 4 popular Betting agencies. NOBODY anywhere near winning 100k. I would suggest the 100k NZ bet thing is made up dreamer by somebody. Think NoworNever is correct with his third option above somehow. 13. Not 100% . but He paid NZ record prices for 2 yearlings at the sales . Paid $360,000 twice . for foals out of Adore Me and Bettor twist. so seems to have plenty of Spending Power lol 😂. am sure it said somewhere he has a punt too. Steve and Jill do Syndicate some out , and do a great job, so there's always a chance one of the Syndicate People is Very Rich and Very excited when it comes to Stonewall horses . and is popping on the Big Punts each week. Quite a few winners too, but there's a fair few starters getting a punt on, so probably just break even in the end. But seems they are having Fun with it. Harness racing doing Great Brodster !!! You have fun over there in Europe too. Good on you young fella. Have a great trip. My son went to Tour De France and coming home next week after 2 years crashing around all Europe. Did the Venice Gondola's thing last month as well. Hope you get a go at that Brodster. Don't Rock the Boat though . you'll spill the drinks lol 😁🍾
  14. Slow NZ horses at the gallops ? Did one even run off today at Ruakaka ? looked like it was heading for the Grandstand when leading into the straight. was quite funny. or best horse in Australia at the time, Popular Alm after Vinny cut him 4 lengths clear at the quarter in the Interdominion Grand Final at Alexandra Park thinking he was gunna cruise in . Bad Luck Vinny . No Mate . When LEAP TO FAME gets to the front , it's all over rover. chalk up another win. Don't even think the 2 miles of the NZ Cup is gunna trouble him . Swayzee could even do it. tough buggers. Pacers and trotters much better in front than those rusty , half trying gallopers 😎😋🍻
  15. Definitely right . And of course ALL the Huge Sports events overseas are popular with punters these days. Someone like Curious on this forum is carrying on about Horse Whipping her and at another station ,like there's No tomorrow for racing. And he's involved in racing. Imagine what fringe participants must think.? the HORSE sports are bit on those nose . of the general public. Like the greyhounds too. My 2 kids wouldn't watch a horse race if I tried to force them (20 somethings aged) And Harness has been seriously tainted over the years too. Red Hots. I started here 6 years ago and was horrified at Everyone calling ALLStars Cheats for example with the many runners per race. Even yourself I remember a 4 page arguement with you about Amazing Dream and Beyond something . words. beyond Words . so People notice these sort of things. Mark Purdon near best of all time yet heavily criticised lol 🤣 It's more accepted these days . that stable-mates can help each other. Andretti given an easy lead by a stable-mate last night. Just made it a bigger certainty than it already was. I thought David Butchers 2 nice horses did a great job last week helping each other and mixing it up with a Star like AKUTA even. I admire that sort of stuff. everyone looking after their horse as best as possible. Dunn's have done it at times. You've been critical of QLD trotting at times where similar things occur with our larger stables. you just have to face the facts mate. you ain't gunna leave a stable-mate parked out if you don't have to. Nothing wrong with a cosy trail behind a horse that will Cart you into it from the quarter , and even let you through on occasion. ( that Ferguson one was ridiculous that time at AKLD , with that sacrificed 2 year-old against older horses. )
  16. better nutrition, better Trainer, better jockey or driver , or sometimes a new race plan , tactic can see a horse reach new levels. Nearly All of them require some urgency from the rider/driver at some stage (usually the later bit of a race when they 'drop the bit') . If you want to win that is .
  17. This is the Thread Mr Galah. covers a Lot of interesting things and great topics, and some good fun from Ranga too. he's a funny bugger. Am sure there is some way to get Big bets on . If the Telfer 'team' can get bets on , and they're in the know of which horses are firing and that. They ALL seem to be going pretty well currently .the horses racing a true credit to Steve and Amanda. and the Stonewall set-up a credit to Mr Stockman and Jill Stockman doing a wonderful job , Syndicating many of the runners like AKATEA and that as well. Because some of the horses get beat and run 2nd or whatever, the Betting agency can get some collects as well , and are/seem quite willing to take on the Bets for many of the stable runners?. that's the way to keep the sport going👍. Josh Dickie not quite a s good as Tim in strike rate driving for Stonewall, but the opposition at Auckland racing is Super tough with 2 lots of Purdons now, the Ray Green team firing, Plenty of Butchers and that . very hard to win a race these days.
  18. thank you for all your thoughts on the runners above. excellent stuff as usual. I can't see any prices , (they're not up till tomorrow in Aus) so likewise very surprised at the Bar Louis Price. I would think it is a Mr Stockman Punt ?. being a Telfer runner. yeah a 15 horse stand is a Big BIG ask. Looks a good chance with Blair on , and a last start winner . Gets 30m handicap though in the Kurow Trotters Cup ? Is that a bit too much ? If I was Wilson House in that trot, I'd go like mad up in front and the MUSCLE horse would have to trot 3 seconds quicker than you to Win it off 30m. Wilson drives very well too. (probably gallop away now 😂 with Moz on it) I thought we established it was on an earlier thread. ? where Brodie did a thread in June 13th on a ridiculous 40k Bet on a Telfer horse . and we discussed a lot of the Big Bets going on the Telfer runners.? seems to reason a Millionaire Connection of the stable would be the instigator of such actions.? I have no problem with Millionaires supporting the Industry with revenue. and getting some winners too. All good stuff
  19. What do you call tight class racing ? are any Friday night Races to your liking ? I always review all the races to see who's winning, how were they driven, who was punted on , etc each Sat morn. I think Mr Stockman is a Millionaire so has his big punts on any of the Telfer runners he feels like at any time, at that helps build a bit of revenue for the betting companies. Not sure with his amount of money , that he cares if he wins or loses the bets as is collecting enough prizemoney each week to pay the way of the Stonewall operation. Interestingly Barry Purdons 2 runners were very heavily tried at Alexandra Park and both ran 2nd. Addington had fairly well tried horses winning ok. Race 1/ Rustenburg a good chance from the pole 1st as 2nd fav at $4.40 . $1.60 fav was unplaced. Race 2/ Lily was $2.90 backed into 2.40 and ran 3rd. Race 3/ Emma $4.40 into 3.00 1st Race 4/ Caught the Eye $2.00 1st Race 5/ Buffy $2.40 1st Race 6/ Ebony $1.80 1st Race 7/ Triple G $4.50 into 3.20 3rd Race 8/ Tu Tangata $4.80 . who in their right mind would back that? . one win in past 40 starts. none this year. craziness. Race 9/ Desert Dancer $3.20 into 2.60 4th race 10/ Black Jack $1.50 throughout 1st. So a pretty good night for supported runners . 50-50 whether they win or lose . Avoid the trots as too many inconsistant runners. Buffy Northstains and Comoron Strike. seriously ? neither had won in at least their last 10 starts so just crazy to back them out of the blue. If I had to Pick one horse on the night , probably Our Shangri Lana race 7 . after a couple of Addington Winter wins she looked ok. But it ran only 5th. did have a bad draw though. At Alexandra Park the winning odds were 21/ 4/ 2 / 7/ 3/ 5/ 2/ and 6 with good trainers like Ray Green , Telfer, Bernie Hackett winning 2 of the 3 trots so no surprises there. Mark Purdon a LIVING CERTAINTY in race 7 with Andretti , Had 2 of the 6 runners and the other 4 were No Hope. you could of had your $1000 bet on Andretti , and have a spectacularly good chance of winning . he had beaten Fugitive of Dalgety's at Waikato , so was going to eat these with the Grand Master driving. But if you're going to put $1000 on something , say at Kurow tomorrow , you're as Mad as Alice in Wonderland Hatter. What could you possibly put $1000 on at Kurow , if you could Brodie???. ( if you don't like good Friday Metro horses) you Have the whole program to choose from . Give us Two runners. (in case one flops 😋) I know you won't answer that Brodster, Because the Answer is NONE of the those sort of horses. some of the horses on the program are lucky to be worth $1000 . 🤣. and then you say $1000 is a small bet as well 😂😆. funny times . That Kurow Cup from a stand has a runner who won last 3 starts . must be some sort of chance with good driver??
  20. hahaha do go bust looking for some loser on a Grass track Sunday. well worth a 1000 risk hahahah. no wonder NZ has only 10% betters to winners lol. Meanwhile Leap To Fame has wins 27 of his last 30 . (and 3 times 2nd). So Gamma keeps reeling in Multi after Multi. Alas he didn't start in the NZ Cup last year so I lost about 30 bucks of multi's. never mind. Mikey is correct and there is some risk involved . certainly wouldn't bother with Gallopers. when you bet in advance. But a small amount soon adds up over time and is fun to track along as you go. I Never do last minute Betting. To go with your shorties. As know who's a chance in Feature races and who isn't , Well in advance. But if you know they're set for the race like any Group 1 which are generally composed of only very few chances, (instead of Blind Sundays when you don't even know if they're trying) . And you blokes want to lose your money on that shit guessing ? . and want to put Large amounts too? you're as mad as cut snake. deserve what you get. Best to Back GOOD horses in GOOD races. with good drivers and good trainers. You get GOOD results !! 5 x goods = 5 x more money than what you get on hacks lol. $1.80 is Excellent for Leap To Fame in the Cup . Keep the thousand in your pocket Brodster for some Sunday loser. No wonder you can only bet for a 'Place' and hope for the best with fingers and legs crossed in case you piss yourself ,hahaha on crap horses lol . I did lose 50 on Don't Stop Dreaming in the last NZ Cup too , which was a bit disappointing since he got to the lead 100m out , but that bloody Swayzee got me again . Like he did the year before with defeating AKUTA too. Not a Hope in the world he can do it a third time soon 😎 . or Is there ???? 🏆🏆🏆 bugger of a bloody horse lol.🤣
  21. Well he has to get there yet I spose. Currently showing $1.80 on Sportsbet. I did a few bucks last year with him being a bit crook and not making the trip over for the Cup in the end, in some early multi markets . Swayzee is $3.50 and Don Hugo is at $7.00. both from NSW. Can't see Aus running a NZ Cup Trifecta surely not ? surely the best NZers can beat them on home turf ? Republican Party the best odds kiwi at $7.50 currently. Sportsbet have the Dominion Trot up too. KEAYANG Zahara $2.50 , Bet N Win $4.00, Arcee Phoenix $5.00 That is really good value for Arcee Phoenix , the way he won the Interdominion. Would beat Keayang Zahara by many lengths you would think? . he was 4th in the Dominion last year and improved even more this year. the Other market on Sportsbet is the EUREKA Slot they have for the run for $2mill on 6th September. so might take QLD mate Fate Awaits . won a few bob n him already and he might go to the 'Velocity slot at Addington too. he's a very smart horse. Our Luciano a track specialist there too. worth a look in Eureka at 20-1 . Fate Awaits 11-1 Eureka, into Arcee Phoenix 5-1 Dominion, into Leap to Fame 'Larry' $1.80 for the NZ Cup. = 100-1. so popping a tenner on now, gets me a $1000 . a nice start. will see who gets a slot and take some more. am going to message Sportsbet now to send me an 'AKUTA' price. I'll see if they message back and let you know.
  22. While a clearance of the debt is good. The sale of that property would displace around 20 trainers you would think ? Roughly 200 horses. that's is a LOT. I'm pretty sure Bernie Hackett /Wallis would be training their large team of trotters there and Jacob Dunn , etc. could this not end the sport with too little competitors able to train properly? Maybe Cambridge could build Training barns Like Menangle and Lease them out to some. I guess you can only have so much daily traffic training n the track though (without getting in each others road, etc) would they just shift to the South (like Reid) or Australia (like Brosnan) and the sport would not continue ? Chief . What did the Galloping Trainers Do at TAKANINI Training tracks, when the Auckland racing club sold the Training course. I started out with trotters right beside there and was devastated to see it go into housing. where did famous trainers like Verner and Jillings and them go ? did they just all retire at that stage ??
  23. Star Entertainment are trying for that $100,000,000 fine from AUSTRAC as $400mill Fine would see them go Insolvent. In the Federal court for Money Laundering Penalties from 2022. some blokes mentioned here ENTAIN are way better managed (globally) financially and would cope ok. I don't necessary think it's smooth though as 11 executives have had to vacate their positions for various failings in recent times. Thankfully just this week a deal for the Star Entertainment Group, has been brokered with it's Chinese business partners that see's a portion of the New Queen's Wharf development in Brisbane Sold off to cover some Debts due on Sept 5th of $31mill. Even hard for the Rich nowadays Mr Galah. James Packer sold off All the CROWN Casino's and Resorts to Blackstone (a USA giant ) in 2022 and just dabbles in Property and Shares now ,just like any other wealthier person in the community these days. tough times lol 🤣 Star Entertainment are selling out to the Chinese to stay afloat . mainly from Debt from a huge New development in Brisbane. I visited it the other day , and is quite impressive. was just a soggy mangrove bank on the river for years lol. the Gold Coast highway Main road actually goes 'Underneath' it now and you can look down on it from 76 floors up. Star are still battling the Federal court casee though. A deal with the two investors significantly improves Star’s financial position, taking more than $700 million in liabilities off its books and more than $350 million in development costs. Star first announced plans in March to sell its 50 per cent stake of Queen’s Wharf in Brisbane to Chow Tai Fook and Far East. The preliminary agreement, which was supposed to be finalised in April, gave Star control of two towers on the Gold Coast and a $53 million lifeline that saved the company from collapse. The three business partners were at odds over key components of the transaction, primarily Star’s ability to continue operating the Brisbane casino. Under the new deal, Star will manage the casino for a monthly fee of $5 million until March. That fee will increase to $6 million in the 2027 financial year and $7 million in 2028 if the casino group is still running the gaming floors.
  24. I think if you look at Global (big picture) NZ is still doing ok for the Entain company . Aus is struggling a bit . The economy and housing crisis in Aus is getting worse, and the gambling dollar is waaay less than it used to be . I even heard someone say they were thinking of shifting to NZ the other day ???? never heard that before for donkey years. Like I mentioned somewhere the Europe Football season starts very soon ( and NRL and AFL will be completed next month) which haven't been great betting contests this year at all. So some BIG Bets will start flying about to keep them all Happy. and of course the Spring Racing will begin. A lot of Punters have Winter off these days too. here's some ENTAIN figures I just found > Revenue by destination reported showed that for the six months up until June 30, revenue across Australia and New Zealand had fallen to £257.1 million ($A530 million), down £24.1 million ($A50 million) compared to the same period last year. The other detail to come out of the half-yearly report was that Australian NGR had fallen 7 per cent year-on-year, while New Zealand’s has increased 12 per cent.
  25. you'll be fine Mikey. You always talk like you know what you're doing , and that it is gambling for fun and not a living. Also your knowledge of the harness horsemen and that is very good so you can't go far wrong anyway. Kerry Packer was a very wealthy businessman in Australia and ran Channel Nine and Considated Press. and used to show off trying to pop a million on a horse in races with his bookies. Had a Million on Jezabeel from NZ winning the Cup a bit over 20 years ago , with QLD Muncie riding her. He used to go to Las Vegas Casinos and be a High Roller quite often as just couldn't stop himself from the habit . All through the 90's he made it his mission to visit establishments around the world to bet the largest amounts he could . BOAY Brodie always wanting to be the NZ 'Packer'on the national stage, but promptly got barred . The TAB trenchcoat he wears not meeting the dress standards required 🤣😎😋. Here's a Snippet of Mr Packer. his Son James can't live up to these exploits. Tales of the punt Kerry Packer’s gambling quickly became the stuff of legend. There was a time when many considered him the biggest bettor in the world – a time when Asian high rollers, Middle Eastern oil sheikhs and the Sultan of Brunei were terrorising casinos across the globe. Packer had both huge wins and huge losses, but he was feared by the world’s biggest gambling houses as they knew he had the bankroll to simply keep betting. And keep betting Packer would – he hated to lose. It was reported in 1987 that Packer had a private room at The Ritz in London, where he’d spent hours – or perhaps days – playing two tables of blackjack at once at £10,000 per hand. He got on a losing streak early but kept on calling for more chips. Eventually, he was writing £1 million cheques to keep the game going, and by the end of the session was down £8 million. But Packer’s losing streak didn’t last forever. A tale emerged of him taking on another, smaller London club weeks later. After a relatively short session, Packer walked away with nearly £7 million. The club shut its doors soon after and many industry observers blamed Packer's massive win. Exclusive London club Crockford's, having just been taken over by new ownership in 1994, was another of the lucky ones. Packer visited them and reportedly lost US $7 million in one sitting. Regular Vegas visitor Packer was also a regular at casinos on the other side of the Atlantic. His "fly in, fly out" missions, which saw him gamble almost nonstop for a few days, would set Las Vegas abuzz. Casinos knew they had the chance to win big... but also knew the huge damage that the big Aussie could wreak with a successful trip. One notable session saw both Packer and the MGM Grand break even, but with an unfortunate piece of timing for the casino that left them with some explaining to do. It was the evening of March 31st, 1992 when Packer hit the tables at the Grand. By midnight he had won some US$9 million. By dawn, he'd lost it again. The problem for the casino was that at midnight on March 31st, the quarterly reporting period was closed off. The $9 million Packer had taken out was a 50% hole in the casino's quarterly profit. It looked ugly, even if they had won it back by daybreak! He'd return to the MGM Grand in 1994 and produce one of the most successful gambling stays ever recorded. Packer started winning, and the stakes started rising. Soon he was playing up to seven hands of blackjack at once. Believing that Packer's winning streak would soon end, the casino lifted their high-roller limits and allowed him to play $500,000 per hand. It wasn't a good move. The winning streak continued and included an astounding $20 million win in just 40 minutes. Packer is said to have finished up US$26 million in front after a couple of days. Rumour has it he left a $1 million tip to be split among the dealers. Stories of Packer’s generous tipping are legendary. One story goes that upon chatting with a croupier and learning she was deeply in debt and about to lose her home, Packer promptly wrote her a cheque for $150,000 to clear her mortgage. On another occasion, after a particularly successful casino visit, Packer is said to have given the keys to his new Mercedes to a valet – and told him to keep the car. Eventually, the MGM Grand had enough. One unfortunate executive was given the terrifying task of informing the volcanic Packer - in person - that he was barred from playing at the casino. While Packer voiced his displeasure, the manager returned somewhat relieved at the relatively gentle reaction he'd received. He may have even got a small smile from Packer... he saw the banning order as a win. Unfortunately for the MGM Grand, they picked a bad time to stop taking Packer's action. No longer welcome there, he turned his attention to the Bellagio. In one three-day trip a few years later, Packer blew US$20 million on baccarat. And he'd top that figure on a later trip. Packer was in Las Vegas on September 11th, 2001, and was left stranded when all air traffic was grounded. So he kept playing baccarat... and lost a total of US$29 million before leaving town.
