In 2020 Westport set the record for a grass track meeting, not far from getting to the 2mil, ii races but notably 13 ran in the Westport Cup, recently they have struggled for numbers in the main race through bad programming and the turnover has dropped accordingly, HRNZ need to address this anomaly or has the horse already bolted? Nelson next week will be affected by Timaru racing 2 days before them, I note Nelson objected in the draft calendar but HRNZ didn't take notice.......also Omakau objected to Auckland Cup returning to new years eve, that was thrown out too, only one southern horse has ventured north this time, if HRNZ are keen to boost stakes then bulk up Westport, Omakau and Nelson's main races, Auckland new years eve, no issue with that but the Cup should be in march, and try and get co operation with Oz too, I thought Auckland Cup might be good in January but their is a circuit of racing in Oz leading to the Hunter Cup but in March, leads in nicely to the slots and you can attract ozzies over for while, mind you if they keep winning everything then maybe the locals might not want them at all lol.

I don't think I will give up lotto, same numbers for so long, every other possible combination must have been drawn now so it's just a matter of time, I did take up a TAB deposit bonus on Boxing day, hadn't bothered for well over a month but they threw temptation my way, that must part of their responsible gambling policy, lol but in reality the gee gees and sport I can mostly take it or leave it, happy just sitting on the sideline.

Gee I missed out again, my long dedicated service and generosity to the TAB and lotto should be worthy of recognition..🤠 My New Years resolution for the 35th year in a row is to give up gambling 😎

Timaru Track Inspection - after six races?!
mikeynz replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Everyone at Kurow will be breathing a sigh of relief, done and dusted, bet that happens more often than night. -
The Mot nearly broke 2 million, according to HRNZ, knocks off Westport in 2020 for the record, and Cambridge last week was up a long way but the fields did have great depth for once, but it still comes down to per race so figures could be a bit sqewd.
-
☹️ if that was up north that last race probably would.
-
Based on nominations for 1 race for Greymouth will they consider running a extra race.
-
Westport Cup win pool just beats Mots main race yesterday, despite a smaller field, 14 8 as opposed to 14 7...invercargill Cup did 12, let's see what Auckland does or Omakau for their main race.......Westport could be much better if they get their fair share of their turnover instead of it being siphoned off for elsewhere. Gore Cup did 9.7, just saying.
-
No doubt the turnover for today will be better than Westport which on day 1 was 1.4 mill, 11 races as opposed to 13 today and there was more depth in the fields too, looks like win pools were a wee bit ahead today, not much though, it's not the total turnover, it's the turnover average but HRNZ like to dress things up to make them look better if they can.......I actually believe the 5k limit on win bets applies to only Friday nights and major days, will that include Auckland on Wednesray? If TAB are taking 5k bets on horses you scratch your head about they probably will as long as they lose, start winning, different story, probably by rights if a punter was losing a lot of big bets then maybe they should restrict you for your own good, whether they do who knows.

Gee I'm busy on here at present lol......another thought, with 3 gallops meeting on Boxing day raises the issue as to whether 3 gallops meeting on some saturdays or maybe a 3rd meeting being a harness meeting would make sense bearing in mind once Melbourne Cup meeting is over aussie racing is a bit low key for a while, worth a thought, you can't compete with the spring racing in Oz, but after that it's a bit flat until autumn so maybe focus more on our lot.

Riverton hasn't ended up too bad, a couple more trainers came on board, I was just pointing out that nothing for 2 and a half weeks after this would be a long gap if you bypassed Riverton too, they ain't flush for dates in the South, gotta use them or lose them. Nearly 40 trained out of Riverton, busy day but dollars to be made.
-
Being a work day for some, be interesting to compare turnover as opposed to last year a Sunday........the figures I read from last year's Taupo and Kurow gallops dropped notably when they lost a weekend day, just the way the days fall sometimes...........Westport did more than 1.4 mill on boxing day, will Auckland match it on Wednesday?
-
I know it's a bit off topic, maybe maybe nor but but around scheduling, the betting figures someone produced showed a significant turnover drop last December for both Kurow and Taupo who raced Monday last year as opposed to the Sunday the year before, noting that Taupo has moved forward a couple of days this year, to get a non week day, tomorrow many will be back to work for a couple of days, guess it's the luck of the draw and the way the days fall, not much you can do sometimes but it suggest to me on course turnover is significant at holiday time, so losing the non working day does make a big difference.
-
Just watching Brittney Graham on trackside just mentioning the odds for Ellersle Jan 1 on the futures market, why risk no refund if not starting and wait until tomorrow when the final fields out, what's the rush ?
-
Be interesting to see what impact no dogs has on the accounts for SRC, think they are fortunate to have the trotting club, be very different without them, but each code needs to support each other, not sure if that's the case in some places, one ignorant arsehole when Otaki had a meeting put off blamed the harness racing a few weeks earlier on it as the reason, probably didn't factor in the dollop of rain a day or two before raceday, some ignorant arseholes around sometimes.
-
A rather strange quirck of the programing at Westport, day 1, 4 trots, day 2 just 3, 11 races, now 10 on day 2 which is good as opposed to many of the gallops but 2 small fields of non winners strange. Also listening to zb sport review of the year, fuck that Scott Robertson waffles a lot of meaningless shit.
-
And Wingatui 2 days earlier, only so much talent available.
-
Regarding a feature grass meeting from Cup Week until January 25 in Canterbury what do you suggest?
-
Before Riverton got Jan 1 Waikouiti and then Omakau raced but they struggled for numbers in the last few years so change was needed but if you look at the likes of the Andertons if they miss Kurow, probably/ possibly Riverton then they will be more than 3 weeks at home, the travelling all the time must get tedious, that has to be another factor, the guy Forde from Riverton seems to clock up some kms, went to the Coast last year but it's probably not always sustainable over a long period of time.
-
One poster keeps referring to the lack of meetings in Canterbury at this time of year, Ashburton on Dec 24 which probably should have been a few days earlier then Washdyke and Kurow which are basically Canterbury, Riccarton next Jan 14 after the 3 Coast days so really it's just the way it is, you need to protect the Coast circuit, recently we see in harness the effects on the Coast circuit with Motukarara running tomorrow, even though harness numbers are strong......even Addington has a month off for the summer holiday racing.
-
I was referring to some of the local, (Southern Trainers) not having any in, they ain't overrun with racedays, none go to Kurow and after Riverton it's more than 2 weeks until next meeting at Wingatui, just thought noms for Riverton a bit light considering the scheduling...noms left open till this morning, might drag a few more in.
-
Numbers for Riverton not that great for some races, be a good day for the home trained runners one or 2 local trainers not going at all, yet we read about the lack of meetings in Canterbury for a few days, yet some in the South have meetings and don't go probably for any number of reasons, Robert Dennis had a 3 week gap after Winton, missed Centrali think, sometimes you put the days on but you never know what you get.
-
It looks like only 2 South Island trained horses at A Park on Wednesday, the Dunns, Telfers and House runners are all trained there, no doubt the increase in stakes is driving the numbers, it is a business so you do what's best for it so Omakau don't have any impediments regarding numbers for their 2 free for alls, whether they get many that remains to be seen, sometimes they just ain't there at times for various reasons.
-
How do they come to the figure to host this raceday, if it cost SRC that much, what does it cost others?
-
Might have been coz it's xmas😁
