  1. Wyndham had a couple of races over 10000 win pool, the 2yo race the poorest, Rangiora had one over 11,and one over 9 Manawatu have had one just under 9 up till now, Ashburton Wednesday ranged from 4 and a half to 8 and the main race at Cambridge on Friday was over 9. Westport cup on boxing day was over 20, Auckland cup was over 23, Manawatu win pools ain't much different from some races at Rangiora or Wyndham nor many of the run of the mill Friday night races, hard to know what all that means but reality is there is only so much money to go around, 2yo races are not profitable, and they only benefit a select few with the inflated stakes.
  2. Glad someone else pointed that out, interestingly watching races you get to see some areas in drought and Southland after a wet spring now looking good, Wyndham I think farm the place, would help bolster finances, seems smarter to farm it than build apartments, that's risky lol.
  3. I just watched kindergarten stakes, 60000 for 5 2yos, almost got a stiffy with excitement. And that don't happen as often as it used too these days lol
  4. I think it's a bit unfair to single Palmy out, their turnovers ain't much different in many cases to anyone else, only difference with Auckland is the stakes, Cambridge main race with good horses had win pool of 9500, don't know if that's good or not, most are doing well to beat 6. Not sure if having 2 Friday meetings makes much difference to turnover but it does make the TV presentation better.
  5. And that halfwit forgot to mention where the good road ends, maybe Pukekohe, Hamilton, or maybe Waiuru, I know he's can't keep his hand off it for his admiration of the sithole called Auckland, takes all sorts I guess.
  6. Maybe TAB should just run tote and Entain fixed odds or maybe they should have when they started, there is money running the tote, not so guaranteed with fixed odds.some of the new betting options I don't see as a improvement, place 6 was a good option, now gone. I'm not sure if I'm correct but dosnt this Shannon guy own a few horses in NZ, in the North? Certainly seems we are having a aussie invasion, or a Queensland one, not hard to see how Brittany Graham landed a job on trackside, must be some worried local presenters, can't be room for all.
  7. An alternative venue, fast running out of them.
  8. Harness turnover should be up, how many Xtra days races are they running this year, it's hard to know what constitutes a good turnover but rarely does Auckland or Addington brake 10000 win pool on tote on Fridays, Southlands sort of floats around 4 to 7, but its noticeable that the expensive 2yo races get piss poor interest, yet the main Country Sunday meetings does better, simply more depth to the field, as a result more just back the tote, understandable, Wyndham 2yo race has 6 starters, five from Canterbury and the main pacers have 13 with more from Canterbury than locals, strange times south of the Waitaki these days. Just seems weird that after the brainstorm of Cambridge Tuesdays and Southland Thursday going to complete change things again, as I said before, clutching at straws.
  9. I'm. not that analytical with all the intricacies I'm purely watching the races but the drone footage of the public area was a rather sad look, no one there
  10. I actually thought Trenthams races were good but the drone shot showed it to be very empty people wise, kind of sad really.
  11. Moving to Thursdays soon as it seems it's better than Tuesdays which raises one issue, why the fuck did they move in the first place ? The draft calendar for next year is proposing moving many southern meetings to Sundays which once again raises the issue why did they move everything to Thursdays from Saturdays, I don't notice much difference in the tote pools on any days but if Saturdays are out to allow gallops their day why then have gallops pushing in on harnesses day which should be Sunday, maybe 1 gallops but no need for 2, just my thoughts.
  12. Question here is if Market Place is so good how do they get away last week not trying to win, which probably happens often in harness, with horses dropping back in ratings, must be lots of manipulation.
  13. Think you would find it Southland had a winter break so would the trainers, might be the odd one campaign north, wouldn't make much difference to Canterbury.
  14. Williamson have some good ones but is the competition up to much, having said that, by turning up week after week, getting a nice earner for the trouble, which seems to be the mantra for many harness meetings, small fields, dominant stables.
  15. I don't notice much difference from a mid summer meeting to a mid winters raceday numbers wise, this season has been mostly Thursdays, now the draft calendar for next season has lots of Sundays, many same day as another meeting in Canterbury, turnovers for southland are modest to say the least, no new meetings next season, guess they've reached their limit. Maybe switching many days from Saturdays to Thursdays now to Sundays is a example of poor decisions
  16. Everywhere we go today we have saturation of everything sportswise, racing, cricket rugby etc etc, and it diminishes the enthusiasm/interest after time, I have to admit I probably watch less trackside than ever now, same for rugby, you just get too much but the 7 day a week racing schedule must have a impact on our local racing, do we really need all the overseas stuff saturating the product? You wonder if Geo blocking is implemented could the Aussies decide to stop taking bets on our racing or even stop us betting on their racing?
  17. Does it make sense having feature mares races at both Trentham and Riccarton on same day this weekend ?
  18. Wyndham have a $60000 race, the kindergarten stakes next week, many of they're other races are becoming very poor, the days when Baynes and Milne had good young ones going are gone, all they are doing now is benefiting Canterbury trainers, better to channel some funds into making their other races better, 6 in the Wyndham Cup, very average, even if the 2yos were racing for half they would still show up.
  19. No reason why they can't reduce stakes based on runners, surely 5 young ones running for 5 grand is better than trialing for nothing or simply staying at home. Plenty of times to race for more as numbers rise after winter.
  20. Scratchies 😄.
  21. Last 4 meetings in Canterbury have been a soft 7 or worse.
  22. A heavy 8 in March in Canterbury, weird.
  23. Well you can wager on Paraguay women's football, Racing from all over the World, always looking for new ways to make a dollar, as for the incentives, maybe if they get a monopoly there might be none.
