  1. Holiday meetings have lots of holiday makers who may not have, TAB accounts, and obviously with a good crowd on course turnovers are good , not rocket science.....like most things be nice to get all these figures broken down, I'm sure Omakau on Jan 2 would be interesting.
  2. I think you actually find those good on course turnovers at many of the small holiday venues is pushed by tote betting by the non regular race goers, they don't care about fixed odds, probably don't care about horse racing that much either but just enjoying the summer outings that become traditional for many.
  3. Well at least there will one patron there.😁
  4. Well at least they ain't running the derby and oaks in same say as is done here, never understood that.
  5. Might make sense having a 1700 raceday at Ashburton tomorrow if Nelson didnt have a miles day 2 days earlier, Nelson need to revert to 2400 races on day 2, I suspect it would help numbers.
  6. Nelson have been trying to get their winter dates back, HRNZ want to keep the 2 Friday night meetings, the other option I think they was mooted was a Tuesday Thursday meeting in May, never heard anything more about it.
  7. The only highlight I find in greyhounds is some of those female dog handlers loading them in the boxes😛....................but what I do see some times is some heavy handling of some of the dogs, lifting off the ground by the collar.
  8. I actually added up the tote figures for the Auckland Cup, $61000, plus if you add the Quaddie and the treble in it reached $100000, win pool $11600, when the win and place on small fields is poor it can be redirected to the exotics, Omakaus main race I think topped 20 grand, win pool and there was a race at Cromwell, not the main one on Tuesday topped 16, I think that was just after 5 so some finishing work mau have had a wager, sometimes timing is everything. Just out of curiosity can you bet on fixed odds on course or is that reserved for website punters only, the tote odds will always be displayed on the on course monitors, but fixed odds change all the time so what you might want you might not get if you stand in a que.
  9. I think if you made races of 6 starters or less penalty free it woudnt make that much difference, 4 in the main race at Cambridge, nothing will change for the winner but the maiden trot in Nelson, would anyone of those win at Methven, Motukarara against 14 others, probably not, no one can manipulate the field size, itsI just one of those things that happens now and then, i don't know if there is a ratings rule but fillies and mares should only get half points for winning too if they are restricted to one sex, probably in reality you could also reduce the rating penalty to 3 points if there are 7 8 or 9 starters, even reduce the top rating to 80 and exempt any horse from a ratings drop for 4 starts after a penalty bearing win. Once upon a time there were 10 classes, no drop back, was it right that's subjective.
  10. Many of those maiden trots with only 6, some only win by default, look at Palmy today, Nelson tomorrow.
  11. Some of those races with 6 starters or less should be penalty free at Manawatu, for that matter any races with 6 or less should be and also free from any ratings relief as well.
  12. One would have to admit, 40000 for 4 horses, easy money, as Gamma says lots of happy owners, it can't go on like that forever, make hay while the sun shines.
  13. I think both Cambridge and Manawatu are going to take a further hit when the dogs finish, as long as stakes are in line with income that's all one can do, at present they aren't, you cut your coat according to your cloth, I note a comment Mr Steele said to the Facebook at Omakau the other day praising these feeder clubs, , sad part is many of these feeder clubs are being feasted on by clubs who can't make it on their own, HRNZ are pouring money into one or two clubs in particular who don't inspire the public, if the public prefer Methven and the Mot and Westport or Omakau over Cambridge or Alexandra Park then that's the way it is I'm all for standing up for the provinces in anything. Auckland has to stand on its own 2 feet.
  14. Just the 5 races at Manawatu, just the 4 horses in the main race at Cambridge, that Manawatu meeting, no surprises, might have been smarter to combine with Wairarapa from last week, 4 races that Otaki use to do,a one off don't happen in the CD, Kapiti Coast, not sure next week, because of the track but would numbers be any different from Manawatu? Hawera following Kapiti should be OK but as with last year, why schedule grass racing same time at Kapiti or Palmy for that matter as Marlborough, that's stupid As for Cambridge only 4 going for 40000, Republican Party didn't stay, they dont have a circuit no more up North to tie in with the , Auckland Cup, Nelson on Sunday might get 10 going for 25, HRNz if they so obsessed with bumping up stakes then bump up Westports, Omakaus and Nelson's main race and have good racing for the better ones through the holiday break, judging by the Omakau main race figures people like the better horses but you do need 8 runners to entice more betting.
  15. Maybe he did, it's got commas, speech marks, full stops and capital letters.
  16. I would love it if TVNZ and/or Sky would get all those old NPC rugby matches or All Black's and all the archive Cricket stuff and post it on either you tube or TVNZ on demand, so much stuff there, it must have a market, I got heaps of old videos but some are fucked through time, they don't last forever.
  17. Will there be much of a a crowd at Trentham today ? Isn't this the Marton date moved from Awapuni, and if so when would the main race be if Awapuni was on today?
  18. Possibly the exotics at the Mot especially the 10000 guaranteed first 4 that were carried over in some races probably boost the Mot over Omakau but the win pool in the main race today is only beaten strangely by the race before, Kaikoura, Westport,The Mot and Omakau and possibly Richmond, once use too, top the turnovers for racedays away from Addington and probably beats most of them too.
  19. Looks like Omakau might give the Mot a shake for turnover, 12 races v 13 might be the difference, that big on course crowd of holiday makers are boosted the tote figures, that's why I say this meeting should have stakes boosted and let Alexndra Park move the Cup or just accept southerners won't go. Wagering for a 2000m race best of the holiday circuit, you really need those 8 runners.
  20. That HRHZ site keeps locking up, white box saying something went wrong, frustrating, been doing it for a while now.
  21. Last year the visuals in the Auckland Cup was a hard watch with the shade from the monstrosities built there, this year in the doom and gloom it was poor visual look for the whole race.....for the premier race at Alexandra Park, let's say there is room for improvement.
  22. I do think Nelson being once a year is silly racing miles, as for the accommodation one pointed out in regards Westport was it a problem pre covid when they would run 11 or 12 races and have 15 in the Cup, my beef with Westport Is one, they have the biggest turnover and 2 the stakes in the main race is poor, if you bump up the stakes for the main race, which has been reduced from a rating 56 to a rating 46 that would make a difference, the reality is if the rating 56 has been replaced by a rating 46 due to lack of numbers dosnt that somehow suggest the ratings system as it is at present isn't right?
  23. Where would you rather spend New Year, Auckland or Central Otago ?
  24. Ita a pity me old mate TAB ain't here no more, was good pointing out what a shithole Auckland is, I've just flicked on to trackside, sitting in my lounge with the sun streaming in and watching a bunch of clowns running around in the rain and shit at Alexandra Park, wait until the tennis starts, anyone who tries to convince me that's the place everyone wants to be you won't convince me.
