Invercargill next week has $50000 2yo trotters and a $100000 2yo race scheduled for next week, might get a dozen starters between races,if lucky and most likely most from if not all from Canterbury, then the 3yos final both for 60000, and the Country Cups for aged horses for 40000, once again another imbalance of funds for stakes, just goes on and on.

In today's world they would abandon the race but should they, but I think the show goes on, that's Racing, things happen.

When I was working outdoors I was always listening to radio while working, if it wasn't trackside, it was probably cricket or rugby or ZB while out and about so I realize how handy and informative it is, I do think Sports Nation, owned by the TAB can do significantly better in it's on radio Racing coverage, even simulcasting off TV is fine, it's not everyone that can be sitting on their arsehole in front of TV, by being freely available(radio) it continually stays in your mindset, plenty of people have busy jobs, not all day to play on smartphone but staying informed is important as one poster above stated, once you lose your audience, hard to get it back.

It would actually be interesting to know what the TV viewership is for racing, broken down to how many stream from the website, numbers watching through Sky and then since it's back on freeview. The TAB/Enatain now own the Sports Nation frequencies, they do broadcast the Big Saturday on the radio and they do stream trackside radio on the app as well, no reason why they couldn't have more trackside on radio, better than having the endless run of reruns, it would be interesting to know what the listening numbers are for Sports Nation, more than likely small but at least they are catering to sports and racing fans, no one else is. Radio still has its place.

I stand to be corrected but I think they used to broadcast on radio the early scratchings for Easter Saturday at 10 o clock on Thursday night, always remembered the weather and track and scratching every Saturday at 8 16.

Strangely a big spike in turnover for the last at Winton. 5 15 or so, must have got some Xtra with no Auckland and pubs maybe filling up, who knows.

Riverton fields are impressive numbers wise, and a good percentage are from South of the Waitaki.in another couple of weeks Southland finishes for the season, those last two days are about the time Blenhiem would have raced, in some ways Blenhiem got some poor days, Easter stuffs things up sometimes, I still reckon they should be back on the circuit.

Forbury actually raced on the Saturday before shifting, Hawera raced Easter too, Easter Saturday was one of the few days races were on TV, it probably was only beaten by cup day, times change.

Some of those races at Winton, turnover looks pretty modest. I'm just going by win pools and Quaddies, gotta have something to use as a yardstick.

Maybe Ellerslie might want to transfer to Avondale😂

6 noms for a rating 70+ at Addington for 25000 as opposed to 70000 for 6 2yo fillies at Winton, you may not boost numbers for the 2yos but by altering the handicapping to have more floating around in the higher ratings for the pacers is one way of maximizing returns, many can always relate to the top aged horses which creates more interest.

$70000 for 6 2yo fillies at Winton, nice work if you can get it, last week's 2yo fillies race at Cheviot was the poorest turnover wise, this one at Winton will be too, why are the continuing with this weird thought process in harness racing? Might even get a visit from TAB 4eva but he's probably seething that the government's not propping up America's Cup and Eden Park, unlike Harness Racing who seem to see reasons for propping up Auckland.

I would imagine the new calendar will be released someday soon.

Tote pool for pacers race last night was just over 20, trotters strangely just over 21, Westport cup was 20, Auckland cup 23, one would imagine the exotics were more popular but with all the promos its probably the best they can do, for Cambridge, many of the supporting races were pretty average as any other friday, there is only so much money to go around but I suspect if these dates were at Addington turnover would be better, Cambridge and Auckland probably not everyone's favourite place to bet or watch harness racing but it is what it is. I thought the trotters race was a anti climax.

Think old TAB man, he enjoys right handed,,his adulation for all things Auckland is just so unbelievable. Why are they so different there going the opposite way to the rest of us ?
