  1. Are many greyhounds trained south of the Waitaki?
  2. You should know the rule by now JJ. It is only team driving if the All Stars do it!! Butchers, Dunns, Telfer... team driving all good, nothing to see here.
  3. I agree. Nigel has some interesting interviews and he has a good sense of humour.
  4. Sounds like the Labour Party organised it! 🤣🤣
  5. This is for you Brodie as I know how much you love mile racing! Wow... what a time. How would he go at the Jewels? Interesting that the former Dunn trained Star Align ran third. This Is The Plan blazes to 1:47.3 world record in Battle of Lake Erie This Is The Plan dominated the $200,000 Battle of Lake Erie at MGM Northfield Park, setting a 1:47.3 all age, half-mile track world and track record while winning gate-to-wire. Yannick Gingras drove the Ron Burke trainee to the record victory that was 5-1/4 lengths better than Western Joe (Aaron Merriman) in second. Catch The Fire(Brett Miller) was third. Stars Align A (Joe Bongiorno) finished fourth and Hesa Kingslayer N grabbed the final check. The mile surpassed the 1:48.1 world record on a half set by Pet Rock and David Miller at Ohio’s Delaware County Fairgrounds in 2013. The performance was also a career best for This Is The Plan, whose previous best was a 1:48.2 mile set at 4 at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono. Sent off as the 2-5 favorite,This Is The Plan (Somebeachsomewhere— That’s The Plan) led the invitational for older pacers through fractions of :26.2, :53.3 and 1:20.3 and scooted home in :27 to win for Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, J&T Silva- Purnel & Libby and Lawrence Karr. The win pushed This Is The Plan’s career earnings to $2,206,200 and his seasonal bankroll to $449,500. The gelding, bred by Moni Market Breeders, has a career record of 17-23-8 in 78 career starts and a 2021 slate of 3-6-0 in 10 starts, including a win in the $514,000 Borgata Final on April 19 at Yonkers Raceway.
  6. Laver is a very tough horse. I think Gerard was probably giving him a breather down the back as the horse always finds another gear when asked for an effort in the straight. Laver ran 1:51.9 at Nelson earlier this year, today he clocked 1:52.2 so he is no mug. Pembrook Playboy is probably speedier than Laver but he is not as fit or as tough as Laver. That's a great price on the NSW tote.
  7. I had one bet Laver and he paid $11 a place! Is that a small dividend mate? What a tough run from Laver, he's a beauty.
  8. Well called mate. I took your advice on board and backed it. Thank you.
  9. It is true. Prove me wrong?
  10. Bullshit. Blair Orange was not shat on by All Stars, just the opposite. I remember it clearly. At the time, Blair Orange left All Stars with blessing of Mark Purdon to form some sort of a partnership with Ken Barron. I remember Blair saying he discussed it with Mark before deciding to leave the stable. Rather than shitting on Orange, Purdon endorsed the move. Unfortunately, I don't the think the partnership with Barron has been a success. I don't know the reasons but the Barron stables does not win many races these days compared to past seasons. Blair still drives occasionally for the All Stars and won a big race on Akuta recently. That is further proof that are you talking shit!
  11. Sunny Ruby was another top trotter trained by Fred. She won the Jewels in 1:54.7 beating Monbet. She was a horse that had a huge sprint if saved for the last run. Fred knows how to trainer a trotter that's for sure.
  12. I don't think you can say that with certainty. Tim Williams chose to leave so he cannot expect to get Cullen stable drives now. I am sure he will probably get drives for the stable in future but not at the Jewels. Williams has done well from his association with the All Stars; he wouldn't have driven as many winners for big stakes with another stable. He has been luckier than most drivers.
  13. Yes, congratulations to Fred Fletcher. He is a master trainer. Fred trained Royden Glen and Sundon, two of the best harness horses in NZ ever, and a host of other top horses. Well done Fred.
  14. The rogue and harness hater MVB is not writing feature stories anymore. There was an item in the press last week about it. Like many Stuff articles it was badly written so it was unclear whether MVB was retiring or just giving up feature writing. But by all accounts he has definitely given up feature writing. Good riddance!
  15. Congratulations Jones on Sugar Apple getting a start in the Jewels. And what a draw! You should get a dream run from that draw and chance to pay a dividend. All the best The draws have evened up some of the other races with the likes of Krug, Copy That, Bolt for Brilliance, Mexicana and Amazing Dream badly drawn and will need to be driven for luck. Go the Jewels!!
  16. It's a one-paced type of horse but Brodie is right it can win a couple. It needs to be off the UR to do that though because it would need an economical trip in trail or 3 back fence to win a race. From unruly it is never likely to get the right run?
  17. I think it's just the nature of the fields mate. You get the slow, unfit runners, usually badly driven by owner/trainer, versus the fit runners in House stable etc driven by capable drivers Orange, Sarah O'Reilly and B. Barclay. Many horses stopping a long way from home doesn't help if you are stuck behind them and that happened in a few of the races I watched. You have to be handy to the pace. It was a good run from the Shirley trotter to come from behind but it was helped by breakers in the straight.
  18. I agree mate. I have another bonus bet, so looking for something at Addington. I have a few sorted, but price will be a factor.
  19. Well spotted mate.
  20. I have a lot of time for House. He is innovative, straight up and he throws out the odd good price from his stable on his Facebook page. It is sad that House has not attracted new clients to his Southland base. I think one reason for this is that Southlanders are very loyal and probably see House as an outsider. There are a lot of good trainers down there and I think locals are more likely to go with a real Southlander. House shouldn't give up. If he keeps on producing the winners down there, he will start to attract new clients. Patience is required.
  21. You can watch the races on the TAB site mate. That's what I do. Tune in a 30sec before start time, you miss all the crap, it's great.
  22. You don't have to watch the races mate. You can still punt and look at your improved TAB balance later. Have a go mate!
  23. Not necessarily mate. I think that the three-year-old races are clear-cut. Krug and Bettor Twist are far better than the rest so should win regardless of the draw. Possibly, could put Akuta in this category too. But the other races are wide open. The favourites may win but there will still be good place prices on offer I am sure of that. If a horse can get a soft run on the fence behind a hot pot, in the trail or 3 back, iit is in with a real chance to get a good payout and pay plenty. I don't think the lead will change much, and sitting cosy on the fence is the place to be. Take the NZ Derby as an example. The Falcon, had a dream run three back on the fence and ran third paying $25 (yes, I was on). The same thing can happen at the Jewels if you get a competent driver putting his/her horse in the dream spot without doing much work like Gerard O'Reilly did with The Falcon in the Derby. I think the opportunity for double figure place prices is huge Brodie. Roll on the Jewels...
  24. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/racing/125234308/harness-racing-trainer-enjoys-best-season-in-the-sport A positive harness story about Southland trainer, Chelsea Faithful. She is another, like Dr Luk Chin, that trains horses and works as well. Good on her.
  25. I hope your horse gets a start mate. Go Sugar Apple.
